James Franco & Rachel McAdams On For The Little Prince Adaptation

the-little-prince-book-coverAntoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 novella The Little Prince has fast become a children’s classic, and now it looks like it’s going to get a big screen animated adaptation, with a fairly starry cast lining up to add their voice talents.

THR reports that James Franco, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro and Paul Giamatti have all signed up to voice characters in the movie. Mark Osborned (Kung Fu Panda) is set to direct.

The Little Prince is about a pilot who crash lands in the Sahara desert and then comes across a young boy who claims to hail from an asteroid and has fallen to Earth. As the pilot fixes his plane, the boy tells him stories about his homeworld.

Bridges will be provide the voice of the pilot, but there’s no info on who the other actors will be portraying.

J.J Abrams Plans The Stops Along the Way, Based On An Unproduced Rod Serling Screenplay

jj-abramsJJ Abrams may be very, very busy planning out the future of Star Wars on screen, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to stop developing other projects. It’s been revealed, via TheWrap, that Abrams and his production house, Bad Robot, are putting together a project based on an unproduced script that Twilight Zone legend Rod Serling wrote shortly before his death in 1975.

Unfortunately there are no details on the plot of The Stops Along The Way, but the plan is apparently to turn the script into a TV mini-series.

Serlings’ widow, Carol, commented to Variety, “I’m terribly, wonderfully excited that J.J. is interested and going to do it. It was one of my husband’s favorite pieces. He thought it had great potential.”

She also adds that the script involves, “a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of imagination” and that it “takes place over a long period of time.”

It’s not too much of a surprising move for Abrams, who’s often cited Serling’s Twilight Zone as a seminal influence. There’s no news on when it might go into production.

Carey Mulligan Sought For Hillary Clinton Biopic

carey-mulliganEver since a biopic of Hillary Clinton’s early days was announced a few weeks ago, there’s been a lot of speculation about who would take on the lead role. Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain, and Emma Stone have been said to be in contention, but now a new favourite has emerged, with both THR and The Wrap reporting as The Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan has emerged as the top choice to play Hillary.

Nothing is finalized yet, and other actresses are still in the mix, but Carey Mulligan and director James Ponsoldt will meet soon, and it’s suggested that both sides are eager to work out a deal quickly.

Young Il Kim wrote the screenplay, which landed on the 2012 Black List. The story follows a young Hillary Rodham Clinton, who was one of the lawyers on the committee to impeach President Richard Nixon, as she tries to balance her burgeoning career and her feelings for future President Bill Clinton.

It’s not clear when it might shoot.

Sony Plans A Remake Of French Hit A Prophet

A-PROPHET03The French flick A Prophet garnered massive amounts of praise around the world on its release a couple of years ago. Unusually Hollywood would sign on for a remake immediately, but it’s take them a couple of year, as it’s only now that Sony Pictures has announced an English language version of the film, according to Variety.

Directed by Jacques Audiard, A Prophet tells the story of a young man’s rise to power in a criminal syndicate after he is mentored by a crime boss. A Prophet was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2010 and was honoured with the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as getting nine César Awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars), including Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actor.

Producer Neal H. Moritz commented, “This is an epic crime saga with compelling characters and original storytelling. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to make an English language version of the film and I am grateful to have the trust of Jacques Audiard and his producers, as well as the writers Thomas Bidegain, Nicolas Peufaillit, and Abdel Raouf Dafri.”

Sony’s Hannah Minghella also released a statement, saying “We think A Prophet will translate perfectly for English-speaking audiences. Obviously, we love working with Neal and he has a great track record with this kind of film – we’re confident that our film will excite audiences in the same way that the original material did.”

Jennifer Lawrence Takes On The Rules of Inheritance

She may be only 23-years-old, but Jennifer Lawrence already has a Best Actress Oscar, and now she wants to add producer to her list of talents, as TheWrap reports that Lawrence has signed on to star in and produce The Rules of Inheritance for director Susanne Bier (Things We Lost in the Fire).

Abi Morgan (Shame, The Iron Lady) wrote the screenplay, based on Claire Bidwell Smith’s memoir. Bidwell was an only child who lost both of her parents to cancer over seven years when she was a young adult. The book chronicles the many adventures and romances she embarks on in an effort to cope with her loss, while finding out who she really is in the process.

FilmNation Entertainment is financing and handling sales on the project. The studio’s Glen Basner and Aaron Ryder commented, “We are thrilled to be working with the dream team of Jennifer Lawrence, Susanne Bier, Abi Morgan and Bruce Cohen. We have no doubt that this inspirational and hopeful book will be turned into an emotionally powerful movie that audiences around the world will fall in love with.”

It’s isn’t currently known when it might shoot.

New The To-Do List Red Band Trailer – Aubrey Plaza wants some sexual experience

It seems The To Do List is following in the footsteps of Bridesmaids and wants to prove it’s not just the guys who can get gross-out, although this time things are more American Pie and wedding comedy.

Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark (Aubrey Plaza) wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

Maggie Carey’s film is due out July 26th in the US, with an October UK release currently planned.

The Family Trailer – Robert De Niro teams with Luc Besson and goes gangster again

If you look through Robert De Niro’s CV, he hasn’t actually made all that many gangster films, but the ones he’s done have become so iconic that he’s perennially associated with the subgenre. Now he’s back in gangster territory for Luc Besson’s The Family, and we’ve got the first trailer and poster.

In the film, ‘A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni, his wife Maggie and their children Belle and Warren can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.’

The Butler Poster Sells The Very Starry Cast Of Lee Daniel’s Film

This new poster for The Butler certainly wants to make sure we know Lee Daniels’ film has a very starry cast, many of whom are playing various Presidents and their wives over the years.

The main role is taken by Forest Whitaker, who plays real-life figure Eugene Allen, who rose through the ranks at the White House from 1952 through 1986, where he served eight different Presidents and eventually became the head butler. It gave him a unique vantage point on the civil rights struggle.

The cats includes Robin Williams and Melissa Leo as Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, James Marsden and Minka Kelly as JFK and Jackie O and Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan, while the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Alex Pettyfer, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Redgrave, Jesse Williams, Mariah Carey, and David Oyelowo also star.

The movie is due out in the US in October, and is likely to be hoping for a strong Oscar run.

Footloose’s Kenny Wormald Up For The Living

Kenny-WormaldFootloose may not have been the big break Kenny Wormald might have hoped, but now he’s going indie with The Living. Variety reports he’s set to star, with Fran Kranz (Cabin In The Woods) taking the other main role.

The film follows Kranz’s character who, ‘awakes after a night of heavy drinking to realize he has severely beaten his wife. While he tries to redeem himself, her brother, played by Wormald, looks to hire someone to kill him.’ Chris Mulkey, Jocelin Donahue and Joelle Carter will also star.

It all sounds very dramatic!

Jack Bryan is writing and directing the movie, which is already in post-production.

Breaking Bad’s Bob Odenkirk Takes On Girlfriend’s Day

bob-odenkirkFormer Saturday Night Live writer Bob Odenkirk has long been a bit of a cult comedy figure. More recently he’d gained a lot of new fans thanks to playing Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad. Now the multi-hyphenate is set to write and star in Girlfriend’s Day. Michael Stephenson (Best Worst Movie, The American Scream) will make his narrative directorial debut with the movie.

Odenkirk commented, “Girlfriend’s Day is an offbeat comedy, but the characters are full of heart, searching for love and connection. Michael’s documentaries feature the same kind of likable offbeat characters, and I can’t wait to make this film.”

The film is set in a city where greeting card writers are celebrated like stars, and romance writer Ray (Odenkirk) used to be the king. In trying to recapture the feelings that once made him the greatest, he gets entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend’s Day.

Michael Stephenson also released a statement saying, “After reading Girlfriend’s Day, it felt like a discovery. Long before Girlfriend’s Day even came into the picture, I had Bob’s name down on a list of actors I’d hope to work with one day. I’ve been a fan of Bob’s for a long time, and feel that his dramatic sensibilities as an actor have been largely untapped. Girlfriend’s Day is rooted in themes that I believe in, and I’m honored to collaborate with Bob in telling a story that’s close to his heart.”
