Final Monsters University Trailer – Everybody wants to scare

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not too long now until Monsters University hits cinemas (June 21st in the US and July 12th in the UK), so Disney-Pixar has decided to help up the hype with a final trailer, which is a little heavier on plot and features plenty of new footage.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in U.K. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice Adds Katherine Waterson

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paul Thomas Anderson is putting the cast together for Inherent Vice at lighting speed, as the gap between the project getting the go-ahead and a planned shoot in a few weeks time has been pretty short. Now he’s found one of his female leads, with Deadline reporting that Katherine Waterson has signed up for the film.

Katherine-WaterstonThe movie is based on Thomas Pynchon’s 2009 novel of the same name, which follows Los Angeles private detective Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix) in 1969. It’s described as being, ‘Part noir, part psychedelic romp, all Thomas Pynchon- private eye Doc Sportello surfaces, occasionally, out of a marijuana haze to watch the end of an era. In this lively yarn, Thomas Pynchon, working in an unaccustomed genre that is at once exciting and accessible, provides a classic illustration of the principle that if you can remember the sixties, you weren’t there.

Waterson is said to be playing a ‘free-spirited hippie chick’ who has to constantly conform to the ideas of how her new lover, a real estate mogul named Mickey Wolfmann, think she should act.

Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone and Martin Short also star, with shooting kicking off soon.

Forest Whitaker In Talks For Paul Greengrass’ MLK Biopic, Memphis

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

forest-whitakerIf all had gone to the original plan, Paul Greengrass Memphis would have been in cinemas last year, but the Martin Luther King biopic got delayed (after Universal Studios dropped it), and it’s only now that it’s moving forward. The Wrap reports that the director has found his MLK, with Forest Whitaker in talks for the role.

The film will be about the events that lead up to Martin Luther King’s assassination by James Earl Ray. It could certainly be interesting, as most looks at the man have steered clear of the months leading up to MLK’s death, due to the fact he was at a low ebb, with his marriage on the rocks, his influence in the halls of powers diminished (partly because he was very vocal in his opposition to the Vietnam War), a reported alcohol problem and he had even because a divisive figure within the civil rights movement.

The film is now being made outside the studio system, although there’s no news on exactly when it might shoot. Greengrass’ next film, Captain Phillips, will be in cinemas this later this year.

Chris Columbus Circling Video Game Movie Pixels

May 31, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

CHRIS-COLUMBUSBack in 2012, Happy Madison and Sony were quick to snap up the rights to Patrick Jean’s short Pixels: Retro Gamers, with the assumption at the time that Jean would be the one making his move into cinema with the feature-film version. However now another name is in talks to helm, Chris Columbus (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson), according to TheWrap.

Jean’s short film was about 1980s arcade characters attacking New York City. However the movie version will go slightly more Wreck-It Ralph, with characters emerging from a video game to mess up our world, and the government recruiting a group of hardcore gamers to battle them.

Tim Dowling did a recent rewrite of the script, which was originally penned by Tim Herlihy. There’s no word on whether Adam Sandler is still planning to star, which was the original plan.

New Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters Trailer – Logan Lerman goes half Greek God again

May 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although there are some people wondering why they bothered making a sequel to Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief, it was actually a decent movie that ended up being more profitable than many gave it credit for.

Fox is hoping to build the franchise with Sea Of Monsters, which sees Logan Lerman, Alexandra Dadarrio and Brandon T. Jackson back in the world of modern day Greek gods. This time Percy Jackson (Lerman), the son of Poseidon, continues his epic journey to fulfill his destiny, as he teams with his demigod friends to retrieve the Golden Fleece, which has the power to save their home and training ground, Camp Half-Blood.

The film is due out on August 7th.

Anne Hathaway is already on-board to play a woman who returns home when her brother is injured and starts up a relationship with his favourite musician, James Forrester (played by Lotus Eaters star Johnny Flynn), while also coping with her family issues. Steenburgen is set to be Hathaway’s mother.

The current plan is to shoot Song One this summer, so expect it in cinemas sometime next year. Steenburgen will next be seen in Last Vegas, alongside Robert De Niro and Michael Douglas.
