Captain Phillips Trailer – Drama on the sea with Tom Hanks & Paul Greengrass

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since 2010’s Green Zone, director Paul Greengrass has been signing onto and dropping out of a seemingly endless succession of projects. However now he’s actually made a movie, teaming up with Tom Hanks for Captain Phillips. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived.

The project is based on the true story of Maresk Alabama captain Richard Phillips (Hanks), who sacrificed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates, so he could save the lives of his crew. He spent three days in captivity before being rescued by a Navy SEAL team in 2009.

It’s currently due out in the US in October.

Michael Shannon Plans A Sci-fi Pic With Take Shelter Helmer Jeff Nichols

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michael-ShannonWhile Michael Shannon has been around for years, it was Jeff Nichols Take Shelter that really got Hollywood to take notice of him not just as a reliable character actor, but as a truly excellent performer. Now Variety reports that Shannon in reuniting with Nichols for a sci-fi movie.

Nichols, whose latest film Mud recently opened in the US, has also written the script for the movie, with Warner Bros. backing the film. There are few details on the plot, other than that it’s described as a present day sci-fi chase film.

It’ll be Nichols first studio movie, and hopefully by the time it starts shooting, Shannon will be an even bigger star than he is now, following his turn as Zod in this summer’s Man Of Steel.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the latest draft of the screenplay, which blends mythological fiction and real history. The story follows the historical figure Vlad the Impaler (Luke Evans), who was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula character.

It isn’t clear who Cooper will play, but we do know Sarah Gadon will also appear in the movie. Gary Shore is set to direct.

The first trailer for Gravity is due in the next day or, but before then we get a poster for the movie, which Warner Bros. seems to be hoping will get some Oscar attention later this year – which is relatively rare for a sci-fi movie.

The poster shows George Clooney’s astronaut becoming untethered from his space station when disaster strikes. Sandra Bullock’s Dr. Ryan Stone  gets left alone on the crippled station, and must find a way home against all the odds.

Alfonso Cuaron’s film is due out in October.

Toby Kebbell On For Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

toby-kebbellTwentieth Century Fox has announced that shooting is underway on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in New Orleans. They’ve also released the news that Prince Of Persia and Wrath Of The Titans’ Toby Kebbell has joined the movie’s cast.

In the sequel, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Andy Serkis, celebrated for his performance in the last film, reprises his role as Caesar. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also stars Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.

Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) directs, with a May 23rd, 2014 release already set.

Jurassic Park 4 Gets Delayed, But There’s No News On When We Might See It

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jurassic-park-3d-poster2A few days ago, director Colin Trevorrow tweeted a location scouting pic for Jurassic Park 4, which suggested to most people the film was really going to happen after years of delays and rumours. However the film has now been put on hold by Universal and Amblin Entertainment.

The production schedule was already very ambitious, as the script is still in the middle of being written, and filming would have had to begin in the next couple of months if it was going to hit its June 13th 2014 release date. A tweet from THR’s Borys Kit, suggests the problem was a realisation the movie was simply too big to rush, he says the draft of the script Universal received a couple of days ago was “Way more epic and ambitious than they were prepared for.”

The delay was apparently done in coordination with the filmmakers, seemingly as everyone realised more time would be better. At the moment it does seem the studio is still keen to go ahead with the film, even if it’s not clear exactly when. However as the film has been on and off for a decade, yet another delay is bound to disappoint fans.

Alicia Vikander Joins Tom Cruise & Armie Hammer In The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

May 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Alicia-VikanderSwedish actress Alicia Vikander’s star has been rising thanks to A Royal Affair and Anna Karenina, and will be seen later this year in The Seventh Son and The Fifth Estate. Now she’s got what may be her biggest break yet, as THR reports that she’s landed the female lead in The Man from U.N.C.L.E..

Gut Ritchie is directing the project, which is based on the Robert Vaughn and David McCallum starring 1960s series of the same name, which followed United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.) agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, as they battle the evil agents of Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.). Tom Cruise is playing the American agent Solo, with Armie Hammer playing his Russian partner, Kuryakin.

Alicia Vikander will be a British agent who has an affinity for cars. She’s playing a completely new character who was not a part of the original series.

Scott Z. Burns wrote the screeplay, but it’s not clear when it will shoot.

The Butler Trailer – Forest Whitaker watches history in the White House

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Butler could well be a fascinating film, and now we get our first taste of the movie, as a trailer has popped up online.

Gay director Lee Daniels’ film stars Forest Whitaker as real-life figure Eugene Allen, who rose through the ranks at the White House from 1952 through 1986, where he served eight different Presidents and eventually became the head butler. It gave him a unique vantage point on the civil rights struggle.

As the trailer shows, the movie has a starry cast including Robin Williams and Melissa Leo as Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower, John Cusack as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, James Marsden and Minka Kelly as JFK and Jackie O and Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan, while the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Alex Pettyfer, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr., Vanessa Redgrave, Jesse Williams, Mariah Carey, and David Oyelowo also star.

The movie is due out in the US in October, and is likely to be hoping for a strong Oscar run.

The World’s End Trailer – Simon Pegg & Nick Frost return with a sci-fi tinge

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A lot of people are very excited for The World’s End, the movie that reunites Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright and which completes their trilogy of films following Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.

Now the trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.’

It hits UK cinemas on July 19th. [Read more…]

Ender’s Game Teaser – Harrison Ford & Asa Butterfield take on the aliens (but should gay people boycott the film?)

May 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac 3 Comments

I’ve been slightly torn whether I should post the trailer for Ender’s Game. There have already been calls for a boycott of the movie, due to the fact it’s based on a book by noted homophobe Orson Scott Card.

The author has previously said he believes gay sex should be banned (although he’s more recently suggested he no longer wants to see it criminalised), that same sex marriage is wrong, and has linked child abuse and homosexuality. He also sits on board of directors of the National Organization for Marriage, one of the leading anti-equal marriage lobbies, and one that’s been particularly unpleasant in its rhetoric.

Others have suggested we should see the film as a separate entity, and not bring Card’s politics into it. After all, many involved have pledged their support for gay marriage, such as actor Harrison Ford.

While I’m still not sure whether we should be supporting the film or not, I’ve decided I would post the teaser, and you can make up your own mind.

Harrison Ford plays Colonel Hyram Graff, who oversees a military facility where gifted youngsters are trained to prevent an imminent alien attack. Abigail Breslin is playing Valentine Wiggin, the older sister to the titular trainee Ender (Hugo star Asa Butterfield), while Hailee Steinfeld is set to be Ender’s ally, Petra Arkanian. Aramis Knight, Moises Arias, Jimmy Pinchak, Suraj Partha, Conor Carroll, and Khylin Rhambo also star.

The film will hit cinemas on October 25th.

Do you think we should boycott the film? Let us know in the comments below?
