George Clooney Circles Coronado Club Drug Drama

April 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

george-clooneyGeorge Clooney got his second Oscar this year, winning Best Picture as the producer of Argo. That seems to have cause him to have a look through the work of journalist Joshua Bearman, who wrote the article Argo is based on.

Now The Wrap reports that Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov are planning a film based on Bearman’s upcoming article about the Coronado Club. Clooney is thinking about directing the project himself, although that’s not been confirmed yet.

Not too much is known about the film, although Coronado is the name of a resort city in Southern California and the story is about a group of young people who are used to smuggle drugs. There’s no news on who will script the adaptation, although Sony Pictures is in talks to finance the project.

Clooney is currently shooting The Monuments Men, so he probably won’t get around to this one for a while yet.

Jake Gyllenhaal & Rene Russo To Star In Nightcrawler

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be keen on darker dramas at the moment, with the likes of End Of Watch and the upcoming An Enemy and Prisoners. He’s keeping with that theme, as Variety reports that he and Rene Russo have both signed on to star in the new indie thriller Nightcrawler.

Dan Gilroy will make his directorial debut with the movie and also write the script. There aren’t many plot details, other than it’s about ‘a driven young man who discovers the nocturnal world of LA freelance crime journalism’. Gyllenhaal will presumably be the journalist, but it’s not clear who Russo will be.

Gilroy has previously worked as a journalist, working on the likes of The Bourne Legacy, The Fall and Two For The Money.

Jon Favreau Going Indie With Chef

April 26, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-favreauJon Favreau is best known as a director for Elf, Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, but he started out in the indie arena with Made, in which he starred with Vince Vaughn. Now he’s hoping to go back to independent film with Chef.

Variety reports that he’s is now in talks with financiers to write, direct and star in Chef. No plot details have been released, but Favreau came up with the idea himself, which is about an ’emotional chef’, played by the director, who is doing his very best to run his Los Angeles-based restaurant.

Favreau hasn’t completely given up on big budget films, as he’s still developing the likes of Magic Kingdom for Disney, but he’s hoping to slot in Chef as well, although there’s no news on when it might shoot.

New Monsters University Trailer – Sulley and Mike enrol in college

April 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ve had a couple of teasers and trailers for Monsters University, but they’ve been rather light on plot. That’s been remedied with a brand new promo, which gives us a great feel for the film, with Mike and Sulley at university, but Mike having difficulty fitting in and convincing anybody that he should be a scarer.

On this evidence it looks like it’s going to be another winner from Pixar.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in U.K. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’

Helen Mirren & Catherine Zeta-Jones Get Red 2 Posters

April 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Red-2-character-poster3
Yesterday we posted a couple of character posters for Red 2 featuring Bruce Willis and John Malkovich, and now we’ve got a couple more, featuring Helen Mirren and a new face for the franchise, Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The film sees Bruce Willis’ character back on the run, and along with his girlfriend (Mary-Louise Parker), making a run for it across Europe. Zeta-Jones isn’t the only new addition to the cast, as Anthony Hopkins, David Thewlis, and Byung-hun Lee will also star.

The film will be in cinemas this summer. Hopefully the film itself won’t be such a horrible shade of orange though.

Ryan Reynolds May Be Selfless For Director Tarsem Singh

April 25, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ryan-renoyldsDirector Tarsem Singh was averaging one film ever six years with The Cell and The Fall, but he’s speeded up his output considerably, as Immortals and Mirror Mirror were released within eight months of one another in 2011 and 2012.

Now he’s planning a new movie, as Deadline reports that Tarsem and actor Ryan Reynolds are in talks for the thriller Selfless. Based on an script by Alex and David Pastor (who wrote and directed the 2009 horror Carriers), the film is about a wealthy old man who pays to have his mind transplanted into a younger body after he realises that is dying. In a very bad turn of luck, he soon realises that the body he’s taken over is a man murder victim, and the body’s killers aren’t happy to see him walking around again. The hero is then forced to go on the run and work out who’s trying to kill him.

Neither Tarsem nor Reynolds is confirmed as yet, but they could make a pretty good pairing if the film does go ahead.
