Martin Scorsese Set To Finally Make Silence

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

martin-scorseseAfter every Scorsese movie, fans start wondering what he’ll make next, and for the last few years in between each film rumours have surfaced that he was finally planning to shoot Silence, which he’s been attached to for over two decades.

Now Deadline reports that he’s finally planning to actually make the movie, based on Shusaku Endo’s controversial 1967 novel. The book is about two 17th century Jesuit priests who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and to spread the gospel of Christianity, and discover that believers have been forced undergrounds and are being tortured. The book’s title refers to God’s silence during these troubling times.

Deadline’s report seems to confirm that Scorsese has officially left Snowman behind, with Universal recently said to be looking elsewhere for a director.

Financing is apparently now set for Silence and a shoot is planned for July 2014. Before then we’ll get Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, which is out at the end of the year, and reunites the director with Leo DiCaprio.

Will Smith Attached To American Can & The Accountant

April 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-smithZwiWe’ve only had one new Will Smith movie in the last five years (Men In Black 3), but with the upcoming release of After Earth it seems he’s getting back in front of the camera properly, as just yesterday we reported he’s signed up to star in the drama Focus, and now Deadline reports he’s eyeing a couple of other movies too.

Smith is now attached to the drama American Can, which is currently hoping to get Ed Zwick to direct. The film is based on a true story and would see Smith as John Keller, a Gulf War veteran who, during Hurricane Katrina, helped gather 244 survivors in New Orleans’ American Can building, saving their lives in the process. Sony Pictures is backing the project, working from a script written by Adetoro Makinde and John Lee Hancock. At the moment it looks like it’s bee Smith next movie after Focus.

The actor may also star in The Accountant, a thriller that would have him play a a government accountant who doubles as an assassin. It’s the second time Smith has flirted with the movie, as he was previously looking into it when Mel Gibson was attached to direct.

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris Hemsworth had a lot of competition in The Avengers for who was the hottest superhero, but the first poster for Thor: The Dark World shows he’s going to be looking real good when he goes it alone once more.

It’s a great first look at the movie, although it does suggest Thor’s going to be having some weather related problems.

The film arrives in cinemas this November, and sees Thor once more having to show off his power when Asgard comes under threat from the Dark Elves, with Maliketh (Christopher Eccleston) and Algrim/Kurse (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) causing the trouble. Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Tom Hiddleston also star. (Poster via ScreenCrush)

A new trailer for The Internship has arrived, giving us a look at this summer’s Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn comedy. It still feels like it’s going to be a two-hour ad for Google though.

Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship – yes, you guessed it, at Google – along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

One Direction: This Is Us Poster Debuts – The 1D boys are coming to cinemas this summer

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

one-direction-this-is-us-posterThere’s no doubt that One Direction are popular all over the world, but we’ll have to wait and see whether that translates into big box office for a 3D concert movie/documentary about them, This Is Us. Now a poster for the film has arrived, which features pictures of the lads, with a background made up of hundreds of images of their devoted fans.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been flooding the official site and submitting photos since February in the hopes that their snapshot will be featured in the movie poster.  The tribute poster also, apparently, “comes to life” when fans use their smart phones to scan the Zapcode on the poster unlocking an augmented reality experience and exclusive video content of the band.  The Zappar app is free and available for download in the App Store or Google Play.

A digital version of the poster, which will include even more fan photos within the mosaic, will launch online in early May at http://www.1dthisisus-movie.com/. Participants will be able to locate and share their photo across multiple social networks.  The movie is directed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), and will hit cinemas in the UK on August 29th and in the U.S. on Friday, August 30th.

One Direction – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – were discovered by Simon Cowell on the UK’s The X Factor in 2010. The band quickly gained a following to become one of the competition’s all-time most popular acts, finishing in the final three and garnering a gigantic and loyal fanbase along the way. In March 2012, One Direction’s debut album, “Up All Night,” made U.S. history, as it was the first time a UK group’s debut album entered the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. The band has sold over 29 million records worldwide. In November 2012, One Direction released their sophomore album, “Take Me Home,” which includes the No. 1 single, “Live While We’re Young,” and are currently on a sold-out world tour.

Raffey Cassidy Takes Young Lead Opposite George Clooney In Tomorrowland

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

raffey-cassidyBrad Bird’s Tomorrowland is coming together, with George Clooney and Hugh Laurie already set to star, and now THR has revealed another lead role, which has gone to young Raffey Cassidy, who was seen last years as the young Snow White in Snow White and the Huntsman.

The previously rumoured plot description suggested the film is about a teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man and a pre-pubescent girl robot who attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth.

THR confirms that Cassidy will play ‘a young girl robot who has been around for decades. Also a key factor: she knows several fighting styles. She has a previous relationship with Clooney’s character, a bitter inventor.’

Hugh Laurie is set to play the villain, who seemingly once threw Clooney’s character out of Tomorrowland. There’s still a lot of secrecy around the project, so expect it to remain fairly mysterious for a while yet.

Mike Gets Stuck (To The Wall) In A New Monsters University Poster

April 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Monsters-University-Poster4
Disney/Pixar has released a new UK poster for Monsters University, suggest poor Mike isn’t going to be having a good time in the movie, where he’s subject to the pranks of his fellow fraternity brothers, including future best friend Sulley.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer.  The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.

‘Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from future Rock-and-Roll-Hall-of-Fame–inductee and award winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opens in UK. cinemas on July 12, 2013, and will be shown in Disney Digital 3D™ in select cinemas.’
