Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander & Gabriella Wilde Try Out For Cinderella

A couple of days ago it was revealed that Cate Blanchett was in talks to play the wicked stepmother in Disney’s planned live action Cinderella movie. Now they’re looking for someone to play the main role, with Variety reporting that Saoirse Ronan (The Host), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie) are testing to play Cinderella.

Disney has been developing the project since 2010, when the studio acquired a pitch by screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (We Bought a Zoo). Chris Weitz wrote the current screenplay, which Mark Romanek will direct from.

No specific story details have been released as to whether this take departs from the classic story, although the studio hopes to make a big-budget, live-action spectacle in the same vein as Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland.

James Franco May Be Good People

James Franco must have been on holiday or something, as it’s been a good couple of weeks since news last emerged that he was attached to a movie (boy, does that guy like attaching himself to movies). However now TheWrap reports that he’s the frontrunner to take the lead role in Good People. Tobey Maguire was previously set to star, although he dropped out a while ago.

The film also has a new director, as Niels Arden Oplev, who helmed the original Scandinavian version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, was set to helm, but he’s now been replaced by Danish director Henrik Genz, who’s best known for the Copenhagen-set thriller Terribly Happy.

The film, based on Marcus Sakey’s thriller, follows Tom and Anna Reid, a couple who are up to their eyeballs in debt following IVF treatment. However in slightly Shallow Grave style, they think their prayers have been answered when they find $400,000 in a room they let to a tenant who suddenly dies. Unsurprisingly, when they try and keep the cash, things get complicated.

It doesn’t appear Franco has officially signed on yet, but he’s certainly in the lead for the main role. Kelly Masterson (Before the Devil Knows Your Dead, Snow Piercer) is handling the script.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste Joins Tom Cruise In All You Need Is Kill

Adding Marianne Jean-Baptiste to the cast of a film or TV show is always a good idea, and now that Without A Trace is over, she’s free to bring her skills to a range of projects, even if Hollywood doesn’t often seem to use her as much as they should.

However now she’s been added to the cast of All You Need Is Kill, which has already started shooting with Tom Cruise in the lead role and Doug Liman directing. She will play a scientist called Dr. Whittle, although it’s not known exactly how she’ll play into the plot.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

‘Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

‘But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.’

As you can see, there’s plenty of room for a scientist to play into that, not least helping explain to Cage is reliving the same day over and over again. A March 2014 release is currently set for the film.

Pacific Rim Giant Robot Jaeger Blueprints Online

The hype for next summer’s Pacific Rim has started, with the first footage arriving online yesterday and now a series of blueprints of the giant mecha robots that are central to the movie. They show off the vast humanoid bots, who are humanity’s only hope when monsters begin emerging from a portal in the Pacific and attacking the coastlines.

The monsters are huge, up to 300ft tall, and so they need an equally enormous response. In true mecha fashion, these robots, known are Jaegers, are piloted by humans.

Interestingly the footage released yesterday showed monsters, known as Kaiju, attacking in 2013, but according to dates on these images, humanity doesn’t get its response up and running until 2018 at the earliest.

Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi star in Guillermo Del Toro’s film. It’s out July 12th, 2013. Let’s hope we get a full trailer really soon, as this one is looking exciting.

Four New Iron Man 3 Pics Hit, Including First Look At Rebecca Hall

It’s less than six months now until Iron Man 3 hits cinemas on April 26th, and the excitement is already growing. To help increase the hype, Marvel has release four new images from the movie, including our first look at Rebecca Hall, who plays Maya Hansen in the movie.

Hansen is a character who stretched all the way back to the first issue of the Iron Man comic. In the film, she’ll play a scientist who helps Tony Stark create the Extremis nanotechnology that plays a vital role in the movie’s plot. These photos also offer another look at the Iron Patriot armor, a battered Iron Man mask, and Robert Downey Jr. himself.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?’

Hailee Steinfeld Joins Kevin Costner In McG’s Action Thriller

Hailee Steinfeld got much praise and as Oscar nomination for True Grit, but we haven’t seen much of her since (although IMDB says she’s got six flm in post-production). Now it’s been confirmed, via Deadline, that she’s joined Kevin Costner in director McG’s untitled action thriller, formerly known as Three Days to Kill.

Luc Besson is producing the film, which follows a dying Secret Service agent (Costner) who decides to take on one final mission while simultaneously trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Desperate to save himself, the agent is also part of an experimental drug study that might prolong his life long enough for a sequel. The drug begins to take its toll when it’s discovered that it produces some much-unwanted hallucinatory side effects.

Luc Besson wrote the screenplay alongside Adi Hasak. Production should begin early next year.

Reese Witherspoon Goes Wild, With Nick Horby Writing

Reese Witherspoon wants to go on a bit of a trek, as she’s now set to play hiker Cheryl Strayed in the adaptation of her memoir, Wild. Witherspoon, who will also produce, has handpicked novelist Nick Hornby to pen the adapted screenplay, according to Deadline.

Strayed’s book is about her 1100-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State. With no experience, she succeeded in her lengthy trek and managed to get her life back together in the process. She was going through the death of her mother and the break-up of her marriage at the time.

Witherspoon commented on hiring Nick Hornby, “Nick’s innate blend of humanity and humor are a perfect match for Cheryl’s raw emotional memoir. I look forward to collaborating with both of these talented writers to create a film full of honesty, adventure and self discovery.”

Hornby meanwhile what this to says, “I loved Cheryl Strayed’s memoir. It’s moving, funny, painful and brave, and the moment I’d finished it I wanted someone to let me have a go at adapting it, because it was clear to me that it could make a wonderful movie. I’m thrilled to be given the chance; the fact that this chance was given to me by Reese Witherspoon, a great actress who feels exactly the same way about the book as I do, makes this project all the more exciting.”

The film will shoot next year.

Frozen Gets Wreck It Ralph’s Jennifer Lee As A Co-Director

Jennifer Lee is getting a bit of a promotion, as after being one of the writers on this year’s Disney flick, Wreck-It Ralph, Walt Disney Animation Studios has asked her to join Chris Buck at the helm of its 53rd full-length animated feature, Frozen, which is slated for the big screen on Nov. 27, 2013. Lee also contributed to the film’s screenplay.

Featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, in Frozen a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter. Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

Frozen producer Peter Del Vecho commented, “Jenn has a real connection to the film and creates dynamic and relatable characters. Her sense of comedy, adventure and story structure paired with Chris Buck’s vast experience and incredible instincts create an ideal situation for this film.”

Lee’s been busy as he screen adaptation of John Steinbeck’s The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights is being produced by Troika, and she has an original screenplay in development with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, while her original script Lucid Dreams was optioned by Wolfgang Petersen’s Radiant Productions. Forest Whitaker Joins Angela Bassett & Jennifer Hudson In Black Nativity

It looked like Black Nativity was done for. Earlier this year ts seemed Samuel L. Jackson was set to step into the lead, but when a deal couldn’t be made, production was delayed indefinitely and it appeared the film might be dead. However now news comes, via BlackFilm, that Forest Whitaker will join Angela Basset, and Jennifer Hudson in director Kasi Lemmons’ film.

The story is adapted from the Langston Hughes libretto that was turned into a Broadway gospel musical in 1961. It’s about a Baltimore teenage boy who is sent to Harlem to spend Christmas with the grandparents he never met. hrough his grandfather’s Christmas Eve sermon and a stylised, dream-sequence retelling of the classic Nativity story, he learns about the importance of faith and family.

Whitaker and Bassett are set to play the estranged grandparents, Rev. Clarence and Aretha Cobbs. Hudson will be the boy’s mother, who hasn’t spoken to her father since they had a falling out after she got pregnant. Whitaker will likely play multiple characters during the Nativity sequence.

Kasi Lemmons will direct from her own adapted screenplay, with production kicking off in January.

Final Django Unchained Trailer – Tarantino’s film is looking cool

It’s not long now until Django Unchained hits UK cinemas on January 18th (and Christmas Day in the US), so to mop up any people who aren’t already excited about a new Tarantino movie, the final trailer has been released, which makes the movie look cool and action-packed.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

‘Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.

‘Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (amuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival.’
