New Logan Trailer – Wolverine and Professor X get caught up in a near future Western

January 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been some pretty good buzz about Logan, with some suggesting it’s nothing like we’ve seen – especially from the X-Men universe – and could be something genuinely special. The new trailer certainly lays it out there that this is a far cry from Days Of Future Past, Apocalypse, or even The Wolverine. But it does look like it might be good.

Here’s the short synopsis: ‘In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.’

What that doesn’t quite get across is the rather bleak, western feel, an odd multi-generational dysfunctional family dynamic, and the fact that Patrick Stewart’s Professor X says ‘Fuck’ (we’d expect that from James Stewart’s young Xavier, but not Patrick’s!). The film’s out March 1st.

Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Power Rangers Trailer – The Mighty Morphers are back, along with Elizabeth Banks & Bryan Cranston

January 19, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shiny lycra, men in monster suits, stunningly cheap looking special effects – that’s what Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is all about, right? Well, not any more, as for its movie reboot it’s been given a bigger budget and some far better production values.

Now the first full trailer has arrived, which gives us our best look yet at the new Rangers, as well as Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, and our first view of Bryan Cranston as Zordon. You can take a look below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Saban’s Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.’

The movie will be in cinemas in late March. [Read more…]

Their Finest Trailer – Gemma Arterton & Sam Claflin try to win WWII through film

January 16, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

During World War II the UK, those who weren’t fighting had to make all sorts of cutbacks, with food rationed, blackouts ordered at night and limits on nearly everything. However, cinema was seen as so important to raising morale that the government invested large amounts of money in uplifting movies. It certainly worked, as more cinema tickets were sold per year in Britain between 1942 and 1946 than at any other time in history.

Now a film is on the way that wants to take a look at that time, as well as taking on gender issues, with Gemma Arteron as a young, untested screenwriter, charged with lifting the nation’s spirits.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘1940, London, the Blitz; with the country’s morale at stake, Catrin (Gemma Arterton), an untried screenwriter, and a makeshift cast and crew, work under fire to make a film to lift the nation’s flagging spirits; and inspire America to join the war. Partnered alongside fellow screenwriter, Buckley (Sam Claflin) and eccentric actor Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy), the trio set off to make a film that will warm the hearts of the nation and capture the imagination of the American population.’

The movie is due out in April. [Read more…]

Manifesto Trailer – Cate Blanchett takes on the art world as 13 different characters

January 15, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cate Blanchett is already renowned as one of the most versatile actors around, winning herself two Oscar. Hell, she was even convincing as a unique version of Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes I’m Not There. Now she’s taking on 13 different roles in the Manifesto.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tour-de-force: a term so overused that we need an undeniable acting performance to renew its meaning for cinema. Cate Blanchett has just given us one, going all-out in Manifesto. Already respected as one of the best actresses in film, Blanchett raises the bar even higher by playing 13 different roles in Manifesto, embodying some of the most influential and emotional artist manifestos in history.

‘The architect of this unique film idea is director Julian Rosefeldt, a veteran of intricate films and installations. In Manifesto, he uses the words from various twentieth century manifestos of artists, architects, and filmmakers for dialogue. With a gorgeous production and luscious cinematography that would make Baz Luhrmann proud, Rosefeldt puts Blanchett in the everyday world—as a housewife, a factory worker, or a TV anchor—declaring the words that have inspired whole art movements. Manifesto is entertaining while also asking us to question if these passionate statements still hold true and inspire us today.’

The movie will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival. [Read more…]

CHIPS Trailer – Dax Shepard & Michael Peña take on the California Highway Patrol

January 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

CHIPS may be fondly remembered in the US, but it never had the same impact over here in the UK. However, Warner Bros. must feel there’s enough life in the franchise, as they’ve decided to take the 1970s Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox TV show, and turn it into a movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ”Dax Shepard (“Hit and Run,” TV’s “Parenthood”) and Michael Peña (“The Martian”) star in Warner Bros. Pictures’ action comedy CHIPS. Shepard also directs from a script he penned based on the characters from the popular ‘70s television series created by Rick Rosner.

‘Jon Baker (Shepard) and Frank “Ponch” Poncherello (Peña) have just joined the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Los Angeles but for very different reasons. Baker is a beaten up pro motorbiker trying to put his life and marriage back together. Poncherello is a cocky undercover Federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that may be an inside job—inside the CHP.

‘The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done. But with Baker’s bike skills combined with Ponch’s street savvy it might just work…if they don’t drive each other crazy along the way.

‘Also starring are Rosa Salazar (“Insurgent”), Adam Brody (“Think Like a Man Too”), Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars”), and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Jurassic World”).’

It’ll be in cinemas in March. [Read more…]

Peter Dinklage In Talks For Avengers: Infinity War

January 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Avengers: Infinity War is gonna be a big movie, which promises to bring together all the major Marvel universe characters, not just the usual suspect such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and Thor. There’ll also be Spider-man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ant Man and the Guardiand Of The Galaxy too.

Now they may be getting a big of a Game Of Thrones injection, as Pete Dinklage is in talks to join the movie and the fourth Avengers movie, according to Variety. Unfortunately though it hasn’t been revealed who Dinklage might be playing.

Not too much is officially known about the plot, although it is known Josh Brolin’s Thanos, and that it will involve the Infinity Stones, which have played roles in various titles, being brought together. Captain America: Civil War helmers Anthony and Joe Russo will direct both Avengers 3 and 4, which are expected to shoot back-to-back this Summer.

Anna Kendrick May Be A Female Santa Claus Tale for Disney

January 12, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Seeing how upset Fox News got at the suggestion you could have a black Santa Claus, they’re probably apoplectic that Disney is planning a movie about a female Santa. Variety reports that Anna Kendrick is in talks for the role.

The movie is about, ‘Santa’s daughter who is forced to take over the family business when her father decides to retire and brother ends up getting cold feet prior to his first big Christmas Eve flight.’

Miss Congeniality writer Marc Lawrence penned the script and will also direct. Hopefully it will work out better than his last movie, the abysmal Hugh Grant/Marisa Tomei movie, The Rewrite. It’s not known when the female Santa movie – which currently has the working title Nicole – will go into production.
