Dwayne Johnson Takes On Graphic Novel Adaptation Lore

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It always help to get studio interest (and a bigger paycheck) if a film project comes with a movie star attached, and it appears that having Dwayne Johnson onboard Lore has aided that movie getting snapped up by Warner Bros.

An adaptation of Ashley Wood and T.P. Louise’s graphic novel has been in the works for a couple of years, but it only got a studio deal once Johnson came on board, with Warner beating out interest from three other parties. Lore is described as being similar to Men In Black, but about mythological creatures rather than aliens. In it, a man reluctantly become a member of an elite secret order, whose job is to protect humanity from the beast of folklore that threaten to invade our world.

Priest writers Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott have been hard at work on the adaptation, which should go into production later this summer. There’s no director attached as yet, but Variety reports that several are circling.

Extra Avengers Scene Being Filmed Now?

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With The Avengers (or Avengers Assemble as us Brits are supposed to call it) having already received its world premiere, you’d have thought that it would be way too late to shoot any more footage for the film, but if Robert Downey Jr. is to be believed, there’s just one more scene to be added that was only filmed last night!

/Film reports on this, saying Robert Downey Jr. let it slip at press conference for the film, saying yesterday that there was one more scene they were going to shoot once the junket was completed. The star added that he wasn’t kidding.

There’s been some uncertainty over whether this was actually happening, with Marvel President Kevin Fiege refusing to be drawn on whether it was true, director Joss Whedon apparently denying it, but Mark Ruffalo confirming it was happening, although he hadn’t been told what they were shooting.

As a result there’s been a lot of speculation, with most people assuming it will be a post-credits scene. While there is a mid-credit scene already in the movie, which apparently hints at possible Avenges sequels, there’s no post-credits sequence in the prints seen so far. That’s despite the fact these have become a bit of a theme in recent Marvel movies, hinting at where the interconnected universe is going next.

Rumours have speculated over whether it will be the introduction of a new character – some have said it will be Edgar Wright’s Ant Man, although that’s already been denied – while other say it may just be a scene hinting at the plot of the next Marvel movie, Iron Man 3. At the moment it’s all up in the air, and we’ll have to wait and see whether there is a new scene when the film opens on April 26th.

Liam Hemsworth, Harrison Ford & Gary Oldman Feel Paranoia

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Three years after it was first announced, the thriller Paranoia is finally moving forward, with Deadline reporting that Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and The Hunger Games’ Liam Hemsworth are all in talks to star in the movie.

Based on Joseph Finder’s 2004 novel, the film is about a junior manager at the fictional Wyatt Telecom, who ‘liberate’ some of the company’s money to fund a buddy’s retirement party. After getting caught, he’ll have to go to prison unless he agrees to infiltrate Wyatt’s biggest competitor, Trion Systems, to discover what he can about their top secret project.

Hemsworth is in line for the lead role, with Oldman & Ford likely to play the heads of the two companies. Liam has apparently already signed his contract, but Oldman and Ford are still in talks. Robert Luketic, director of Legally Blonde and Killers, will helm.

Vaughn And Wilson’s Internship Shooting Soon

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ever since Wedding Crashers in 2005, Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson have been flirting with projects that would reunite them on screen. Now it’s finally going to happen, as they’re both set for 20th Century Fox comedy The Internship, which it’s just been announced begins shooting June 25th.

Night At The Museum and Real Steel helmer Shawn Levy will direct, with Vaughn and Wilson as two old-school salesmen who, finding themselves suddenly unemployed and passed-by in the digital world, try to reinvent themselves by becoming interns at a major tech company. The film is based on Vaughn’s original script.

Levy is also attached to the likes of Frankenstein and Fantastic Voyage, but chose to put the less tech-heavy Intership first. (Source: Variety)

First Look At Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence In Serena

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are busy people, and recently they’ve been busy doing things together, as the pair both star in two upcoming projects – David O’Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook and Susanne Bier’s Serena. The first pic from the latter has now shown up online, via FirstShowing, with the duo looking suitably as if they’ve just fallen out of the Great Depression, and Lawrence wearing something dead around her neck!

The film, based on Ron Rash’s book, takes place in 1929 North Carolina, where young newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton (Cooper and Lawrence) move to build a timber empire. Their ambition is all-consuming and dangerous – neither is afraid to kill or destroy anyone who opposes them – but they’re turned against each other when Serena finds she can’t bear children and then launches a deadly vendetta against her husband’s illegitimate son. No release date is yet set.

Brad Pitt & Javier Bardem May Join The Counselor

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few days ago, it was revealed that Angelina Jolie had met Ridley Scott about a small role in the upcoming The Counselor, and now it appears her longtime squeeze Brad Pitt may also be up for a role, while Javier Bardem is also circling a part too, according to Deadline.

In the film, Michael Fassbender will portray a lawyer who gets in over his head when he tries his hand at drug trafficking. No details have been given for Brad Pitt or Javier Bardem’s roles, but they may play villains. Deals aren’t yet in place for either of the actors, or indeed Jolie, but if it all comes together, it’ll certainly be quite a cast.

Ridley Scott is directing from a screenplay by Cormac McCarthy. Scott hopes to shoot this summer, once he’s completed promotional work on Prometheus.

Sin City 2: A Dame To Kill For Is Finally A Go!

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Sin City was released in 2005, the stated plan was for two sequels to get made, one in 2006 and one in 2007. However it’s now 2012 and we’re still waiting, with Robert Rodriguez having spent the last seven years teasing the idea of a sequel but many suspecting it would never get made.

That’s just changed though, as Rodriguez and Sin City creator Frank Miller, along with producer Alexander Rodnyansky, have announced that production will commence soon on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

“The first question I am always asked is, ‘When will you make another Sin City?’,” said Robert Rodriguez. “I have wanted to re-team with Frank Miller and return to the world he created since the day we wrapped the original, but have felt a duty to the fans to wait until we had something truly exceptional that would meet and exceed what have become epic expectations. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For will certainly be worth the wait.”

Sin City creator, screenwriter and co-director Frank Miller added, “The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”

The script and details of the film’s story are being kept tightly under wraps, suggesting it may not be based on previously published Miller comics, but casting will begin next week, with many of the original cast expected to return. (Source: Variety)

Sharlto Copley Offered Oldboy Villain Role

April 13, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For someone who wasn’t going to do much more acting after District 9, Sharlto Copley has been building quite a movie career for himself. Now he has been offered the villain role in director Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake. The actor is currently in early talks for the part, but a deal hasn’t been officially sealed yet.

It’s probably worth having a note of caution over whether he’ll take the role, as Clive Owen and Colin Firth have already passed on the part. If he does take it on, Copley would play a mysterious billionaire who releases the protagonist, played by Josh Brolin, from captivity after 15 years. Elizabeth Olsen is also attached to star as a case worker who helps Josh Brolin’s character investigate his past.

It isn’t known when production will begin on the remake. (Source: Variety)

The Magic Of Belle Isle Trailer

April 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Only a few years ago, there was fury among cinema owners at the idea of movie in the US hitting pay-per-view at the same time as the cinema, but it’s now becoming increasingly common for smaller, indie movies to get a premium PPV release before it hits the big screen. That’s what’s happening with The Magic Of Belle Isle, although what’s unusual in this case is that the film has a big star, Morgan Freeman, and a well known director, Rob Reiner (Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally). There’s no UK date yet, but it hits PPV on June 1st in the US, before a cinema release on July 6th. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Reuniting with his director from the hit film, The Bucket List, Morgan Freeman plays Monte Wildhorn, a famous Western novelist whose struggle with alcoholism has sapped his passion for writing. He takes a lakeside cabin for the summer in picturesque Belle Isle, and befriends the family next door–an attractive single mom (Virginia Madsen) and her young daughters–who help him find inspiration again.’

Brave Featurette – Meet Merida in Pixar’s latest

April 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It looks like Pixar’s on to another winner with Brave, and now a new featurette has arrived to tell us a bit more about the film and its heroine, Merida. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.’ It’s out in the UK on August 13th.
