Despicable Me 3 Trailer – Gru goes up against a South Park-ian Nemesis

December 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trey Parker has had plenty of success with South Park, but as an actor he’s largely stuck to things he’s created himself (alongside Matt Stone). However, he’s entered the world of Despicable Me 3 to play the new villain.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The team who brought you Despicable Me and the biggest animated hits of 2013 and 2015, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, returns to continue the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions.

‘Joining Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig in Despicable Me 3 is Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner Trey Parker, co-creator of Comedy Central’s global phenomenon South Park and the Broadway smash The Book of Mormon. Parker voices the role of villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ‘80s, and proves to be Gru’s most formidable nemesis to date.’

The film is due out at the end of June 2017. [Read more…]

Margot Robbie & David Ayer Reteaming For Harley Quinn Gotham City Sirens Film

December 14, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Earlier this year it was suggested that Warner/DC was developing a follow-up to Suicide Squad centred on a female group of villains, known as the Gotham CIty Sirens, with Margot Robbie attached to return as Harley Quinn. That’s now been confirmed, along with the news that Suicide Squad’s director, David Ayer, is now attached to produce and helm the film, according to THR.

Robbie got better reviews as Harley Quinn than Suicide Squad did as a whole, so it may be a good idea to give her a movie away from the team she was part of last summer. Alongside Quinn, THR suggest the film will include ‘Catwoman, Batman’s sometime love interest; and Poison Ivy, who uses plants and their toxins to get what she wants’. Batgirl and Birds of Prey have also been rumoured.

At the moment, it’s not known when we might see Gotham City Sirens. Warner is also said to be working on a proper Suicide Squad sequel (despite mixed reviews, the first film made $750 million worldwide suggesting an appetite for another movie), as well as considering a film built around Will Smith’s Deadshot. At the moment Sirens is likely to come first, but that may change.

Transformers: The Last Knight Poster Suggests The Autobots May Be Fighting One Another

December 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It doesn’t look like things are going to be going well for the Autobots in Transformers: The Last Knight. The recent trailer showed Optimus Prime and Bumblebee fighting, and now the first poster shows Prime standing, sword in hand, standing over what looks to be the corpse of his yellow (former) friend.

Quite what’s going on between them hasn’t been announced, but with Dom going against him crew in yesterday’s Fast & Furious 8 trailer, it seems like next year there will be a lot of sequels trying to intrigue us with suggestions that who is a goodie and who’s a baddie might be changing. As the Transformers poster says, ‘Rethink Your Heroes’.

Not a huge amount if known about the plot, except that it involve time travel, and will somehow manage to bring the robots together with King Arthur, Nazis and new dinobots, with Optimus Prime needing to find an artifact on Earth that may be able to bring Cybertron back to life. So perhaps the other Autobots aren’t so keen on finding that artifacts, although the trailer suggested that whatever the object is, it’s why the bots keep ending up on Earth.

Patrick Wilson Will Be An Aquaman Villain

December 13, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Patrick WilsonAquaman has found itself a villain, and it’s someone not unfamiliar with the world of DC characters. Patrick Wilson previously Dan Dreiberg/Nite Owl in Zack Snyder’s 2009 adaptation of Watchmen. Now, with Snyder helping oversee the creation of the DC movie universe (having helmed Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman), Wilson has joined Aquaman.

Director James Wan announced the news on Twitter, saying, ‘In casting news that no one saw coming from 20,000 nautical miles away, I ordain @patrickwilson73 the Ocean Master. #KingOrm #Aquaman’.

Orm is Aquaman’s half-brother, although at the moment it’s difficult to know what direction the film will take him. There have been various takes on the characters, some with powers and some without, but all with a dislike/jealousy of Aquaman. Therefore it’s likely Wilson will be one of the movie’s primary villains (previous rumours suggested Black Manta would be the main baddie, but that’s never been confirmed).

The movie is due out October 2018.

La La Land & Gay-Themed Drama Moonlight Lead The Golden Globe Nominations

December 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A lot of people wondered whether Moonlight would be this year’s Tangerine –  a movie that was heaped with critical praise but got completely shut out at the Oscars. However, if the Golden Globes is any indication, it’s got a good shot of being amongst the nominations for the Academy Awards. Indeed, it’s already racked up a series of wins at Critics Choice awards, and so may actually have a shot at the Best Picture Oscar itself.

The gay, African American-themed drama scored six nominations for the Globes, only beaten by the hotly tipped La La Land with seven, which is currently the frontrunner for the Oscars too. Moonlight scored nominations in the Best Picture (Drama), Best Director (Barry Jenkins), Best Screenwriter (Barry Jenkins), Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali), Best Supporting Actress (Naomie Harris), and Best Original Score category.

Unfortunately no other LGBT-themed project got much love, but there were a few interesting nominations. For a start, Deadpool got surprise nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Ryan Reynolds. It was also the first time for over a decade, that none of the five major studios had a movie included in the best drama picture category.

Take a look at the full list of nominees below. [Read more…]

Fast & Furious 8 Trailer – Vin Diesel betrays his family, naughty boy

December 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

One of the key things in the Fast & Furious movies is that whatever side of the law they’re on, loyalty between the crew is paramount. However, things are in for a bit of a change, with Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto being forced to turn on his ‘family’ by Charlize Theron’s villainous Cipher.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the heels of 2015’s Fast & Furious 7, one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide in box-office history and the sixth-biggest global title of all time, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time: Fast & Furious 8.

‘Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

‘From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.

‘For Fast & Furious 8, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar® winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.’

The movie will be in cinemas next April. [Read more…]

Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk Drops Its First Poster

December 12, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

By the weekend we should have the first full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, but before then a couple of posters for the movie have arrived. Warner Bros. is banking big on the war movie, with the studio giving it a prime July 2017 release date.

Although World War II movies have a mixed history at the box office, Warner is obviously hoping Nolan can bring a little of the magic he brought to The Dark Knight and Interstellar.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘‘”Dunkirk” features a prestigious cast, including Tom Hardy (“The Revenant,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “Inception”), Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” “Wolf Hall”), Kenneth Branagh (“My Week with Marilyn,” “Hamlet,” “Henry V”) and Cillian Murphy (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), as well as newcomer Fionn Whitehead.  The ensemble cast also includes Harry Styles (One Direction) making his feature film debut.

‘Christopher Nolan (“Interstellar,” “Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy) is directing “Dunkirk” from his own original screenplay, utilizing a mixture of IMAX® and 65mm film to bring the story to the screen. “Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.’ [Read more…]

Fresh Assassin’s Creed Trailer – Michael Fassbender is heading 500 years into the past

December 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It seems like we’ve been waiting ages for the movie version of Assassin’s Creed, but the wait is coming towards an end, with a Christmas release in the US, while hitting the UK on New Year’s Day. To help ensure we don’t forget about it, a new trailer has now been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

‘ASSASSIN’S CREED stars Academy Award® nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose). James Franco Revealed To Be In Alien: Covenant

December 11, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Normally the cast of a movie is announced before it goes into production, but with Alien: Covenant, they’ve waited until several months after production wrapped to reveal that James Franco and Danny McBride will be in the movie. And with Franco’s role, it could turn out to be quite key.

As a result, we’re heading into spoiler territory, so if you don’t want to know more, stop reading.

According to AVP Galaxy, Franco is set to be the captain of the spaceship, Covenant. He’ll also be married to lead character Daniels, played by Katherine Waterson. Apparently though it’s a fairly small role, with Franco only appearing in the first 10 minutes, and then briefly later one. There are also rumours that he may be the father of Ellen Ripley.

The movie is due out May 19th, 2017, although we haven’t had a trailer yet (some expect one to be included with Rogue One or one of December’s other major releases).

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.’
