Simon Beaufoy Wanted To Write Hunger Games Sequel

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

With it looking more and more likely that Lionsgate’s adaptation of The Hunger Games will be a huge success, the studio is already getting keen that the planned sequel happens as soon as possible. So while Hunger Games won’t hit theaters until March 23, they want the script for Catching Fire started well before then and Deadline reports they’re seeking Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours’ Simon Beaufoy to write it.

The original plan was to have Hunger Games director Gary Ross team up with author Suzanne Collins to write the sequel, since they wrote most of The Hunger Games’ script. However, a tight post-production schedule means Ross doesn’t have time to work on the Catching Fire script is there’s any hope of keeping to the schedules Lionsgate wants.

Apparently Beaufoy and Lionsgate have not entered into discussions yet, but the studio is reportedly very high on getting Simon Beaufoy. Back in August Lionsgate set a November 22, 2013 release date for Catching Fire, so the clock is already ticking.

Woody Woodpecker Getting A Movie

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

With virtually every other franchise dragged out of the studio vault and dusted off for a makeover in the last few years, it’s almost surprising nobody’s made a concerted effort to bring Woody Woodpecker to the big screen before. However Universal, which bought the character back in 1985, is going to have a go and has teamed up with Despicable Me makers, Illumination Entertainment, to try and make it a reality.

THR reports that John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, who co-wrote Will Ferrell’s Blade Of Glory, have been hired to come up with the story of the film. The duo have animation pedigree, as they both worked on TV’s King Of The Hill and also had a crack at the long-gestating film version of The Jetsons.

It’s not clear whether the idea is to make a fully CGI movie or if it’ll be a hybrid mix (or even whether they’ve decided that yet). The rather anarachic woodpecker could make for a fun film, although whether younger audiences know about him isn’t clear. That didn’t stop Alvin & The Chipmunks conquering the cinemas though, so shouldn’t prove a problem for Woody.

Created by Walter Lantz, Woody Woodpecker first appeared on screen in 1940, initially in a series of cinema short, before making his way onto TV in the 50s.

Amy Adams May Have Trouble With The Curve

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago it was revealed that while Clint Eastwood had said Gran Torino would probably be his final trip in front of the camera, he’s planning one more on-screen role with Trouble With The Curve. At the time it seemed Sandra Bullock was likely to star alongside him. However a deal couldn’t be worked out (largely due to scheduling) and so Variety reports that the role has been offered to Amy Adams.

There are still some things to work out with Adams, who also has a few scheduling problems (mainly with various Man Of Steel jobs she has to do), but at the moment its appears she’s doing her best to ensure everything gets sorted. After all, who wouldn’t want to star alongside Clint, and this may be the very last time it’s possible to do that?

The film follows an aging baseball scout who’s slowly losing his vision, but goes on a road trip with his adult daughter to look for new players in Atlanta.

Ricky Gervais Confirmed To Host Golden Globes Again

November 17, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

After their very public spat earlier this year, it seem Ricky Gervais and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association have kissed and made up, as the comedian has been confirmed to host the Golden Globes again this year. While this has come as a surprise to some – not least because Gervais publicly vowed he wouldn’t do it again – he’s good for rating, so it makes sense for them to get him back.

Indeed while some members of the HFPA were probably against rehiring him, having felt that his near-the-knuckle jokes went to far at this year’s ceremony and that the online war of words afterwards was too much, it seems NBC were keen. Gervais was only hired by the HFPA after meeting with NBC official Doug Vaughn.

As for Gervais, who did rule out returning, he;s been warming to the idea over the last few months, and met with HFPA President Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly in Paris recetnly to discuss it. He said recently that the idea of going back behind the podium, “is very tempting.” The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held on January 15 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

New Pixar’s Brave Trailer

November 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If one thing is certain in life, it’s that Pixar movies always look stunningly gorgeous, and it certainly seems Brave will follow suit. We got a teaser a couple of months ago, but now Disney has released a full trailer for the movie. Here’s the synopsis: ‘A grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humor, “Brave” uncovers a new tale in the mysterious Highlands of Scotland where the impetuous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) defies an age-old custom and inadvertently unleashes chaos, forcing her to discover the meaning of true bravery before it’s too late.’ The film is due to hit UK cinemas August 17th, 2012.

To watch this video, you need the latest Flash-Player and active javascript in your browser.

They promised its heart would go on and on, and now it’s holding to that, as Titanic arrives back in UK cinemas on April 15th, 2012 – the 100th anniversary of the sinking – but this time converted into three-dimensions.Now the trailer for the 3D re-release is here, but sadly on the interweb, it’s rather flat, so we don’t really get to appreciated whether the extra dimension helps things or not! Oh, and take a look at the new poster below.

Great New Happy Feet Two Trailer

November 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I would have loved to have been at the meeting where they asked Brad Pitt and Matt Damon if they’d mind playing prawns in Happy Feet Two. However it went, they agreed, and now the movie is due in UK cinemas on December 2nd. But with the film out in the US on Friday, a great new trailer has arrived! In the film Mumble’s son, Erik, is struggling to realise his talents in the Emperor Penguin world, but is excited when he thinks he’s found a penguin that can fly. Meanwhile, Mumble and his family and friends discover a new threat their home – one that will take everyone working together to save them.

Mirror Mirror Trailer

November 16, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Last week we got the first trailer for Snow White & The Huntsman, which surprised many by how good it looked. Now we have a promo for next year’s other Snow White movie, Mirror Mirror, which is unlikely to get as good a reaction. While the Huntsman was all dark, gothic and brooding, this one goes more for colour and comedy. It may not appeal to adult tastes, but could score well with a family audience. The Tarsem Singh directed movie stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer and Nathan Lane and is due in cinemas next March, a few months ahead of its rival’s July debut.

Bill Nighy Joins I, Frankenstein

November 16, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Over the past year or so, about half a dozen Frankenstein projects, all with a slightly different takse on Mary Shelley’s classic tale, have been in development in Hollywood. One now finally seems to be moving ahead – I Frankenstein. Aaron Eckhart recently signed on to play the title character in this modern day sequel, and now Variety reports that Bill Nighy and Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) have joined the cast.

Stuart Beattie will direct I, Frankenstein, which is about Adam Frankenstein (Aaron Eckhart), the creation of Dr. Frankenstein, who is still alive centuries after his ‘birth’. Adam is hunted down by a clan of demons who want to learn Adam’s secret in order to reanimate deceased demons to start a new army. Bill Nighy will play a demon prince, while Socratis Otto will be the prince’s right hand man, who goes after Adam.

Beattie is directing I, Frankenstein from his own screenplay, which is adapted from Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel of the same name. Shooting will start next February, in Victoria, Australia, with a February 22nd, 2013 release date already pencilled in
