Hugh Laurie & Ralph Fiennes Set To Join Will Ferrell In Holmes and Watson

January 8, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Back in August it was revealed that Stepbrothers and Talladega Nights co-stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reuniting for Holmes and Watson. Now they have some company, as Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie have joined the movie, according to THR.

Ferrell is set to be Sherlock Holmes in this comedy take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective, with Reilly as Watson. It’s not known who Laurie and Fiennes will be, although they will apparently ‘slip on the shoes of two beloved characters from the Holmes oeuvre’. That likely means one of them will be Moriarty, with the other either as Holmes’ brother Mycroft, or Inspector Lestrade.

Etan Cohen is writing and directing the movie, which is already shooting in London. The movie is due out in 2018.

Channing Tatum & Tom Hardy In Talks For Crime Thriller Triple Frontier

January 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was over six years ago that we first heard about Triple Frontier, which was supposed to be Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning success of The Hurt Locker. However, despite interest from the likes of Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith, she eventually went off to make Zero Dark Thirty and removed herself as director.

The project has lived on though, with J.C. Chandor (Margin Call, All Is Lost) attached to direct. Now Variety reports that two new major actors are in early talks for the film, with Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy circling the film.

The movie is set in the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, which is a haven for organized crime. The movie itself centres on five people working in the zone, and it’s been reported that it is based on a true story. Mark Boal wrote the script.

New The Space Between Us Trailer – Asa Butterfield is heading into space for love

January 7, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of years ago Asa Butterfield was in space as the talented title character in Ender’s Game. Now he’s going back for The Space Between Us, a sci-fi teen love story. It also has a slight feel of the sort of existential science fiction the 1970s gave us.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Described as being a “star-crossed science fiction love story,” The Space Between Us follows two teens from different worlds. Gardner Elliot, the first human born on Mars, is secretly raised in an experimental colony after his astronaut mother dies during childbirth. Sixteen years later, Gardner begins an online romance with a girl living in Colorado and hatches a plan to travel across the universe to meet her. Now, on the run, with Earth’s gravity threatening his very existence, Gardner must race against time and nature to find his love and win her heart. Once united, the two teens venture to seek out the enigmatic billionaire who funded the original expedition to Mars, in hopes of uncovering information about Gardner’s mother and the mysterious circumstances surrounding how Gardner came into existence.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The movie will be out in the UK 10th February, 2017. [Read more…]

Rings Trailer – Samara is back to cause more trouble

January 5, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hollywood’s latest attempt to mine more money from The Ring franchise has had a few issues, with the release being pushed back a couple of times. However, now it’s on its way and a trailer has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise.  A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it.  She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…’

Dustin Lance Black Has ‘No Respect’ For Closeted Gay Actors Who Lie About Their Sexuality

January 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac 2 Comments

Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk and fiance of Dustin Lance Black, has a few things to say in his interview in the latest issue of Attitude. He’s particularly unimpressed with gay actors who pretend to be straight, saying, “I have no respect for someone who lies about their sexuality.”

“At the very least say ‘no comment,'” he adds, “Just keep your personal life personal. But if you’re going to closet yourself, that sends a negative message.”

He’s also sceptical about those who say being gay will limit an actor’s potential in Hollywood nowadays. Black says, “I’ve never encountered homophobia in casting from the studios or networks, not once, not ever. Where you encounter it is with the agents and the managers, they’re the ones who have an outdated notion of the price an actor might pay if it’s discovered that they’re LGBTQ… often they don’t want to see anything happen that might compromise their investment.

“I think they cripple their actors because they stunt the star’s ability to be open and honest, and an audience can feel that.”

In March, ABC in the US will debut the mini-series When We Rise, which Black wrote. The show chronicles the rise of the gay-rights movement from the Stonewall riots to the triumphs of recent year. The cast includes Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, Rachel Griffiths, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Denis O’Hare, David Hyde Pierce, Michael K. Williams, Charlie Caver and Ivory Aquino.

Sylvester Stallone & Adam Driver Teaming For Tough As They Come

January 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Although Sylvester Stallone’s skills as an actor have often been debated, it’s often forgotten that he’s also an Oscar-nominated screenwriter and a pretty decent director. However, his jaunts behind the camera have been fairly irregular, with the last being 2010’s The Expendables.

Now he’s planning another movie as director, and as with all the other movies he’s helmed, he’ll also star. He already lined up an interesting co-star, with Deadline reporting that Adam Driver will also be part of the film.

The movie in question is Tough as They Come, based on, ‘The true tale of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Mills, one of only five soldiers to survive a quadruple amputation from a battlefield injury. At the heart of the story is the soldier’s relationship with his father-in-law, who stood by his side from the day he got home from the hospital. Driver will play Mills, and Stallone will play his father-in-law.’

It’s a subject close to Stallone’s heart, as he is keen to highlight the difficulties faced by those returning from military conflict, whether they have been physically injured or not. It’s not clear when the film might starts shooting.

Woody Harrelson Circling Han Solo Spin-off Movie

January 4, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The planned Han Solo spin-off film is really coming together with Alden Ehrenreich as the younger version of the character made famous by Harrison Ford, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Emilia Clarke as the female lead (the character’s name is yet to be released). Now another name may be close to signing, as Variety says that Woody Harrelson is in early talks for the movie.

If he does end up in the movie, he will play a character described as a mentor to the young Han. As Harrelson has made a career out of playing laid back dudes, and more recently unlikely mentors in the likes of The Hunger Games and The Edge Of Seventeen, he seems a good choice to play someone who helped make Han Solo the man he was across four wildly popular movies.

Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to direct the movie. It’ll be in cinemas May 2018.

Love Is Blind: Season 1 Trailer – Reality dating shows get a gay VoD makeover

January 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago, LGBT streaming service Dekkoo premiered its first exclusive series, Feral. Since then, a second season of the show has been commissioned, and Dekkoo is getting ready to release its second show, Love Is Blind. However, while Feral was fiction, Love Is Blind is a step into reality TV.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Cute, sexy, and LOL-funny, with a sweet soupçon of snark, “Love is Blind” follows sixteen single New York City men on eight (one per episode) off-the-wall, unpredictable, and blind-as-a-bat first dates. Voyeuristic viewers tag along for the day-long courtship as these courageous men turn each other on—and sometimes [snap!] turn on each other.

‘Matches potentially made in gay heaven are subjected to sexy/awkward ice-breaking activities–from wrestling matches and kink classes to body painting and tantric yoga–before being whisked away to a proper dinner date, where, clutching much needed drinks, the couples unwind, flirt and on occasion, fizzle.

‘”Love is Blind” is hosted by cheekily charming comedian Mike Kelton (Logo/MTV/VH1), who provides hilarious running commentary and “in-depth” analysis throughout each episode.’

Love is Blind debuts Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2017 on Dekkoo.com. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Ryan Reynolds Suggests Deadpool May One Day Get A Boyfriend, Because The Film Was Banned In China!

January 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Almost a year ago, just before Deadpool was released, Ryan Reynolds said he’d be interested in exploring the character’s sexuality, and possibly getting him a boyfriend. However, while there were quips in the movie suggesting Pool wasn’t averse to crushing on guys, he wasn’t quite the full-on pansexual character he is in the comics.

Following the film’s huge success, Fox quickly put a sequel into the works, but some wondered whether with tens of millions at stake, it would make them more nervous about exploring the character’s sexuality in future Deadpool movies. Thankfully though, Reynolds says the franchise is still open to it.

Reynolds tells Variety, “What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else. I think that could be played up more. He’s an outsider in every way, shape, and form.”

Oddly the fact the first movie was banned in China might actually help the films to be more open about Deadpool’s pansexuality. One of the reasons Hollywood is reluctant to have LGBT-inclusion in its biggest movies is because they fear being banned or affecting the box office in less gay-friendly countries, especially the increasingly important Chinese market.

“That’s not really a problem for us,” Reynolds adds, “Because we were banned in China. We were rated ‘f— you!’ in China…

“The only thing that you have to consider going forward is, ‘Are we being faithful to the canon that we nurtured and created?’. One of those things is that Deadpool is in love with Vanessa. Deadpool isn’t in love with Vanessa just because she’s a woman. He’s in love with Vanessa because he loves her.”

That suggests that at least in the short term, Deadpool’s main romantic interest will remain a woman, but it’ll be interesting to see if 2018’s Deadpool 2 finds room to play up the breadth of the character’s sexuality, or whether we’ll have to wait for later movies. However, if Ryan really wants to stay true to the comic books, they should try to make things a little more overt.

Fifty Shades Darker Extended Trailer – Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson are back getting sexy once more

January 3, 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’m not 100% sure why it’s been called an Extended Trailer, as it’s actually shorter than the last promo that dropped, but a new trailer for Fifty Shades Darker has arrived. It gives us some new footage as well as a listen to the title track from Zayn and Taylor Swift.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson return as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Darker, the second chapter based on the worldwide bestselling “Fifty Shades” phenomenon.  Expanding upon events set in motion in 2015’s blockbuster film that grossed more than $560 million globally, the new installment arrives for Valentine’s Day and invites you to slip into something a shade darker.

‘When a wounded Christian Grey tries to entice a cautious Ana Steele back into his life, she demands a new arrangement before she will give him another chance.  As the two begin to build trust and find stability, shadowy figures from Christian’s past start to circle the couple, determined to destroy their hopes for a future together.

‘Also returning from Fifty Shades of Grey are Academy Award® winner Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Rita Ora, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini, who are joined for the first time by Oscar® winner Kim Basinger, Hugh Dancy, Bella Heathcote and Eric Johnson.

‘Fifty Shades Darker is directed by James Foley (Fear, House of Cards) and once again produced by Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and Marcus Viscidi, alongside E L James, the creator of the culture-spanning blockbuster series.  The screenplay is by Niall Leonard, based on the novel by James.’

The movie will be in cinemas in February. [Read more…]
