New Exodus: Gods And Kings Trailer – Ridley Scott takes on Moses with Christian Bale

November 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

exodus-gods-kings-poster1-slideWill Exodus: Gods and Kings usher in a new wave of big budget biblical epics? If it hits big numbers, between Exodus and Noah it may well convince Hollywood to put the many bible-based movies they’ve got into development into production.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Twentieth Century Fox present the theatrical release of EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS in the UK and Ireland on 26th December. From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS, the story of one man’s daring courage to take on the might of an empire.

‘Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Rhamses (Joel Edgerton), setting 400,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.’

The movie will be in UK cinemas on December 26th. [Read more…]

Hopeful Romantic Trailer – Telling a gay-themed story of love and heartbreak through music

November 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hopeful-romantic-pic1Over the weekend the short film Hopeful Romantic made its debut in LA with the cast and crew – including George Takei – heading along to take a look at this unusual fusion of music and the movies.

Writer, star and creator of the short’s music, Matt Zarley, writes, ‘When I first started writing the music for this, I was deeply in love. The original plan was to write a simple little EP of love songs. I was so happy and I wanted everyone to know it. A few weeks into the process, my relationship ended abruptly without warning. I was devastated. It was hard for me to access a lot of positive loving feelings at the time. Out of that temporary writer’s block, I wrote “Constantly”. As I was finishing that song, I began to rethink my project. What was originally gonna be a 5 song EP of love songs suddenly took a turn. I had decided to construct a narrative…a journey with music being the guide.

‘Having had an extensive background in Broadway and musical theatre, it seemed natural to finally merge my two worlds together. Much of what I was writing about was also what I was experiencing in real life. Thru this creative journey, I began to heal myself. In the end, my faith and belief that there’s someone out there for all of us was restored. Holding onto the eternal cliche that “everything happens for a reason” couldn’t hold more truth for me now. I’m convinced that had I not loved as deeply as I did and had I not been so devastated, this project surely wouldn’t have happened. For that, I’m thankful for my once broken heart.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The film is currently being submitted to film festival, so maybe it’ll come to one near you soon. You can find out more on the short’s website. [Read more…]

The World According to Homophobes Documentary Seeks Funding To Look Into The Minds Of The Anti-Gay

November 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

world-according-to-homophobes-preview-picWhy do homophobes think the way they do? Sometimes it’s difficult to get your head round some of the arguments they make, and it’s easy to just dismiss them as assholes, but is there more to it than that and where does it stem from?

For example many blame religion for homophobia, but is that just a crutch homophobes lean on so they don’t have to challenge their attitudes to something that makes them uncomfortable (after all, most are more than willing to ignore other bits of the bible that don’t fit with modern life)? Is homophobia innate in some people, or is it solely learned behaviour?

This is the subject the feature documentary The World According to Homophobes hopes to look at – as long as it can raise the cash it needs through an IndieGoGo campaign where it’s seeking $19,950 (and no, we don’t know why they didn’t round it up another $50).

Director Emanuelle Schick Garcia says, “WATH is filmed in four countries, exploring the perceived gender roles, superstitions, and sexual experiences of a variety of homophobes seeking to uncover the role shame plays in shaping a homophobic view of sex. For example, we sit in on a sex education lesson in Bogota, Columbia where pupils can be expelled for displaying ‘homosexual behavior’. We’ll speak to Columbian paramilitaries who are a part of the government’s reinsertion program (where they receive reduced sentences if they apologize for their crimes). No paramilitary has ever asked for forgiveness for a homophobic crime, including those involved in the case of the three soldiers who raped a 14 year old girl and then cut off her breasts and left a sign on her body that read ‘I am a lesbian’.

“With the help of one of our advisors, Harvard Medical School Psychology Professor James Gilligan who specializes in the psychology of violent offenders, my hope is to educate people around the world by allowing them to see how their homophobic culture was created and just how dangerous it can be.”

I can already imagine that some may not agree with the film’s ideas about where homophobia stem from, but it’s certainly an interesting subject and a thesis that’s worth putting forward.

Take a look at the trailer below, and if you want to help out, head over to IndieGoGo. [Read more…]

Looking Season 2 Teaser – Catching up with Jonathan Groff, Russell Tovey & co.

November 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

looking-s2-slideA few days ago HBO announced a January 11th premiere for the first episode of Season 2 of Looking, where we’ll go back into gay San Francisco. When we left him, Jonathan Groff’s Patrick was in the middle of a semi-love triangle with Raul Castillo’s Richie and Russell Tovey’s Kevin.

Meanwhile Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) and Frank’s (O.T. Fagbenle) relationship had hit the skids while Dom (Murray Bartlett) was trying to figure out his love life while also attempting to open a restaurant.

Now it’s time for our first glimpse of Season 2 with a teaser HBO has just posted and which you can watch below. It’s pretty brief but it’s good to see the boys back. (And if you’re in the UK and wondering, hopefully Looking – Season 2 will start on Sky Atlantic in the UK shortly after it begins in the US). [Read more…]

Matt Damon Confirms He’ll Be Back As Jason Bourne

November 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bourne-ultimatum-matt-damonIn September is was reported that director Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon were in talks to make another Bourne movie. While the sources seemed pretty solid, Damon himself wasn’t saying anything about it, and with talks for a fourth Jason Bourne movie having fallen through before, it wasn’t completely certain.

However now Matt himself has confirmed it, telling E! News, telling them, “Yes, next year [we’ll shoot it]. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”

Damon is just about to shoot The Martian for Ridley Scott and he’s also recently signed up for Alexander Payne’s Downsizing, so presumably the new Bourne movie will come after those films.

Previously 2016 was set to get a sequel to The Bourne Legacy starring Jeremy Renner, but when Damon and Greengrass came on board, that film took a backseat. It’s not clear yet whether they’ll bring in Renner to star alongside Damon, or whether we’ll have to wait longer for his return to the franchise.

Will Jared Leto Be The Joker In Suicide Squad?

November 8, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jared-LetoBefore Dallas Buyers Club, there was a four-year gap between movies for Jared Leto while he concentrated on fronting his band. However after he won an Oscar, many expected him to return to the world of movies with a vengeance.

Despite a few possibilities he’s yet to pick his next role, but that may change soon if Warner and DC get their way, as TheWrap reports that they want him to play The Joker in Suicide Squad. Ryan Gosling was previously circling the role, but he apparently didn’t want to to sign a deal that would cover multiple movies (which could also be an issue with Leto).

You’ve also got to imagine any actor would also have qualms about taking the role, as they’re bound to be compared to Heath Ledger’s iconic performance in The Dark Knight.

As previously reported, Will Smith, Cara Delevigne, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie are all said to be in various stages of discussions to star Suicide Squad, with Jesse Eisenberg expected to reprise his Batman v Superman role as Lex Luthor. However as yet no casting has been confirmed.

It’s said Suicide Squad will focus on seven DC Comics villains, who have been captured but are offered the chance for redemption with a mission none of them are expected to survive.

David Ayer will direct with an August 2016 release planned.
