Smash’s Megan Hilty Joins Sean Hayes’ Gay-themed Sitcom Sean Saves The World

June 15, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Megan-HiltySmash may never have become a hit with viewers, but Megan Hilty nevertheless got a lot of fans as the bitchy, insecure, backstabbing, Ivy, who was determined to be a star and step out of her famous mother’s shadow. Sadly there’ll be no more Smash, but we will get to see more of Hilty, as EW reports that she hay joined the cast of Sean Hayes’ gay-themed sitcom, Sean Saves The World.

In the original pilot, Lindsay Sloane played the role of Hayes’ best friend, Liz, but she was let go in May and when the show airs on NBC in the autumn, Hilty will take over the role. Megan and Sean previously worked together when he guest starred on Smash.

The show features Hayes as a gay dad who’s recently been given full-time care of his daughter, Ellie, and must now raise her as child as a single father. Let’s hope it does better than last year’s gay-themed comedies, Partners and The New Normal, neither of which got past their first season.

FilmNation & Icon Sign Up To Back Elton John Biopic Rocketman

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Elton-JohnA few days ago we reported that Tom Hardy was being eyed to play the lead role in the Elton John biopic, Rocketman. While there’s still no news on whether he’ll take the role, the film has moved a little further towards the big screen, as Empire reports that FilmDistrict has signed up to distribute the film in the US. That comes hot on the heels of a Cannes deal, where Icon’s production arm AI agreed to co-finance the movie.

It’s still early days though, so don’t expect it for a while yet. When it does appear though it should follow Elton’s journey from 5-year old musical prodigy who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era. It will also feature some more fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality.

Music video helmer Michael Gracey is set to direct. Hopefully it won’t take too much longer until it goes in front of the cameras.

Elysium Extended Trailer – Matt Damon goes up against Jodie Foster

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new, longer trailer for Elysium has arrived, which gives us a better look at the plot than anything we’ve seen before. It certainly look pretty cool, with great visual and an interesting idea behind it, although as with many dystopian movies, it difficult to tell whether this vision of the future will feel real or contrived. There’s also a new poster, which you can see below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’

Neill Blomkamp’s film hits US cinemas on August 9th and the UK on August 26th. [Read more…]

Ryan Gosling Gets Slightly Neon For An Only God Forgives Poster

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Only-God-Forgives-poster2Only God Forgives slightly divided critics when it debuted at Cannes, with some suggesting it was a truly exceptional film that more than lived up to the idea of Ryan Gosling reuniting with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, while others were a little underwhelmed.

Well US audiences will be able to make up their own mind on July 19th, with UK cinemas getting it on August 2nd. And now a new poster has arrived, showing us Gosling looking very red and blue.

The movie is about Julian (Gosling), who lives in exile in Bangkok where he runs a Thai boxing club as a front for his family’s drugs smuggling operation. When Julian’s brother Billy is killed, their mother, Jenna (Kristen Scott Thomas), arrives in the city. She wants revenge and forces Julian to find the killer. Julian’s contacts in the criminal underworld lead him directly to The Angel of Vengeance, a retired police officer who knows everything and who is both Judge and Punisher. Jenna demands that Julian kill The Angel of Vengeance, an act that will cost him dearly.

Disney Announces Two New Marvel Movies For 2016 & 2017

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

muppets-again-promo-pic1Disney has announced its release slate well into the future, including revealing release dates for two untitled Marvel Phase 3 movies, the first coming May 6th, 2016 and the second one set for May 5th, 2017. There’s no news on what these movies might be, but they’d follow Thor 2, Captain America 2, Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Avengers 2 and Ant-Man.

It could be that these new films will be yet more sequels to already established, but there’s also a chance it’s the long gestating Doctor Strange of Black Panther movies, or another new character to the big screen.

Disney also revealed that there’s a new title for The Muppets…Again, which has become Muppets Most Wanted (a much more sensible name). It will keep its original release date of March 21, 2014.

And while the Cars spin-off Planes doesn’t reach cinemas until this summer, Disney obviously has high hopes for it, as they’re planning a very quick sequel, Plane: Fire & Rescue, which is set for release on July 18th, 2014.

Other announcements included that Rob Marshall’s musical Into The Woods will get released on December 25th, 2014, suggesting there are already hopes for Oscars.
