Toby Jones Back For Captain America: The Winter Soldier

January 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Toby-JonesChris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, and Sebastian Stan are all set to return to the world of Captain America for The Winter Soldier, and now it appears at least one more actor from the first film will be back.

The Girl and Hunger Games star Toby Jones has said that he’s like to return to his role as Armin Zola, very briefly telling HeyUGuys, “It looks like I will be (returning), yeah.”

Unfortunately there’s no news on how he will fit into the plot. It will be interesting to see, as this adventure is set in the modern day, so either Zola is going to be very old or we’ll be getting some sort of flashback to the World War II setting on the first movie.

Avengers stars Scarlett Johansson and Cobie Smulders are also likely to return as The Black Widow and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in The Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo are new additions to the cast, portraying Falcon and Crossbones.

Anthony Russo and Joe Russo are directing from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Bruce Willis Back For Sin City: A Dame to Kill

January 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bruce-willisSin City: A Dame to Kill For has already confirmed the return of Sin City stars such as Jessica Alba as Nancy, Mickey Rourke as Marv, and Rosario Dawson as Gail, and now it’s been confirmed that Bruce Willis is also coming back as Hartigan.

Director Robert Rodriguez confirmed the news himself, telling MTV, “Bruce is back, so you’ll be seeing him.”

The director also spoke about Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new character in the new movie, “We can’t wait for him to come play with us. It’s a new character. He plays a gambler, a very cocky gambler, who comes in and tries to beat the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game. The story is called ‘The Long, Bad Night.’ He beats the wrong guy in a game and bad stuff happens to him.”

One of the roles that has still not been filled yet is The Dame of the title, with Rodriguez saying they have a few people in mind, “We still have The Dame. We have some choices in mind, but we haven’t finalized anything. She doesn’t shoot for a couple more weeks.”

The movie hits cinemas this autumn.

New Evil Dead Trailer Arrives – Take a green band look at the remake

January 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We’ve had a couple of gory red band trailer for Evil Dead, but they were so keen on showing us that this was not a cop out and would be keeping the blood and guts of the original, that there wasn’t much room for story. So if you do care about the plot, a new green band trailer has arrived.

In the movie five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

The movie hits UK cinemas April 13th, 2013.

Ethan Hawke & Julie Delpy Are Back In New Before Midnight Photos

January 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

before-midnight-pic1After 1995’s Before Sunrise and 2004’s Sunset, it’s now time to catch up with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy as Jesse and Celine in Before Midnight, which should hit UK cinemas later this year. Now ThePlaylist has a quartet of new images, showing the duo together again after nine years.

The images have arrived just as the movie is about to debut at Sundance, with many expecting a battle between distributors to erupt to be the one to release it, due to the cult hit value of the first two movies and therefore its in-built audience.

Not much is known about the plot, but it was shot in Greece last summer and sees Jesse and Celine once more using part of a day reignite their relationship.

First Official Kick Ass 2 Pic Arrives, Featuring Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes

January 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kick-ass-2-pic1There have been numerous set photos from Kick-Ass 2 that have shown up online, but now we get our first official look at the movie, via EW (scanned in by BillKuchman), showing us both Aaron Johnson’s title character and newbie Jim Carrey and Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Here’s the tagline for the image: ‘In the action-comedy sequel Kick-Ass 2 (out June 28), the eponymous hero (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, right) joins a superhero team called Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey, left). Chloe Grace Moretz reprises her role as Mindy, but has “given up Hit Girl and is trying to be a normal teenage,” says Jeff Wadlow, who picks up the directing reigns from Matthew Vaughn.’

Oh, and if you haven’t notices, take a closer look at the dog.

In this sequel, after Kick-Ass’ bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist — reborn as The Mother F%&*^r — only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire-leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

It hits cinemas July 19th.

Mama Tops The US Box Office, With Arnie’s Last Stand Sinking

January 21, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mama-poster-largeWhile many had tipped Zero Dark Thirty to top the US box office again, the Guillermo Del Toro produced horror, Mama, outpaced expectations to easily win the the weekend with $28.1 million in its first three days. Some had even predicted disaster for Mama, but in the end it gave Jessica Chastain a double whammy, as she stars in both the number one and two movies, Mama and Zero Dark Thirty.

Despite the presence of Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta Jones, Broken City could only make it to 5th spot with $9.0 million, far less than the makers would have hoped, even if January has become a bit of a dumping ground for studio product that they don’t have much hope for.

The final new entry was also the biggest disappointment. Many had high hopes for Arnie’s return to leading action man status, The Last Stand, but in the end it could only gross $6.3 and place tenth on the chart on its opening weekend. It’ll certainly be a disappointment for Schwarzenegger, who was hoping to come back with a bang.

However the biggest winner this weekend was Silver Linings Playbook, which thanks to its Oscar nomination added 1,700 screens and rose up to third place on the chart. It had its biggest weekend yet of $11.3 million on its tenth week of release.

Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of January 18th-20th.

Rank Title Weekend Gross (millions) Total Gross to date (millions)
1 Mama $28.1 $28.1
2 Zero Dark Thirty $17.6 $55.9
3 Silver Linings Playbook $11.3 $55.3
4 Gangster Squad $9.1 $32.2
5 Broken City $9.0 $9.0
6 A Haunted House $8.3 $29.9
7 Django Unchained $8.2 $138.3
8 Les Miserables $7.8 $130.3
9 The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey $6.4 $287.3
10 The Last Stand $6.3 $6.3

Alfred Molina & Michael Gambon Getting Married For Keep The Lights On Director Ira Sachs

January 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-gambon-alfred-molina-ira-sachsFor many people, Ira Sachs’ Keep The Lights On was the gay movie of 2012, earning huge critical plaudits and several awards. Now the helmer is plotting his follow up and thanks to the success of Keep The Lights On, he’s getting some better known names to help him.

Deadline reports it’s emerged at Sundance that Michael Gambon and Alfred Molina are attached to play a married couple in Love Is Strange, which like Sachs’ earlier film, will look at the ups and downs of a gay relationship.

The film will see Gambon and Molina as a couple who’ve been together a long time and decide to get married in New York (where gay marriage is legal). However following their nuptials, they’re forced to live apart.

The plan is to shoot the movie this summer in NYC.

It’s fitting that news of the movie has been revealed at Sundance, as Keep The Lights On got its world premiere at the festival last year.

Daniel Radcliffe Talks About His Gay Sex Scenes In Kill Your Darlings

January 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kill-your-darlings-daniel-radcliffe-dane-dehaanDaniel Radcliffe is in Utah for the premiere of Kill Your Darlings at the Sundance Film Festival, in which he plays gay poet Allan Ginsberg. TheImproper was at last night’s screening and managed to catch what the former Harry Potter had to say about his gay sex scenes in the film, which includes ‘oral sex, making out and getting naked for sex, all with men.’

“It was something new,” Radcliffe said. “But you know what, we shot that whole scene in maybe an hour and a half so it was incredibly fast-paced. I didn’t really have time to stop to think and worry about it.”

He also thinks getting to know his scene-mate helped. “We were able to hang out a little bit on set and get to know each other a little bit, which I think is important when you’re doing a scene so intimate. “You have to feel like you’re both in it together.”

The movie charts how a murder helped shape the lives of a group of young men who went on to become the beat generation. Chronicle star DeHaan plays Lucien Carr, the man who introduced Howl writer Allen Ginsberg to the likes of William S. Burroughs (Ben Foster) and Jack Kerouac (Jack Huston). Indeed, Ginsberg later said that “Lou was the glue” that brought the beat poets and writers together.

During these early, hedonistic days, a man called David Kammerer (Michael C. Hall) fell for Carr, with his infatuation becoming increasingly obsessive and unhinged – Ginsberg once discovered Kammerer trying to murder Jack Kerouac’s cat. It eventually resulted in Carr stabbing Kammerer to death him and going to prison for his murder. The violent event is said to have indelibly changed all the people involved and etched its way into the published works of the Beat writers.

Although Carr said the killing took place after he rejected Kammerer’s sexual advances and was assaulted as a result, many have suggested that Lucien wasn’t as heterosexual as he made out, and that he and Ginsberg had been lovers. The full truth of what happened may never be known. Whatever happened, it was a pivotal moment for Ginsberg, who had been exceptionally close to Carr whether they’d been lovers or not.

The film is said to look at all this, with many giving it good notices from its Sundance premiere.

At Any Price Trailer – Zac Efron & Dennis Quaid butt heads as father & son

January 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

at-any-price-slideZac Efron is still in the process of going from teen heartthrob to fully fledged adult movie star. He’s had some success but hasn’t really done enough yet to secure his place on the a-list. While The Paperboy wasn’t well received, he got some good notices and now he’s got another proper grown up role in At Any Price from Goodbye Solo and Man Push Cart director Ramin Bahrani.

At Any Price follows a family farming business in the American Midwest. Dennis Quaid plays Henry Whipple, a life-long farmer who wants to pass the farm that has been in his family for generations on to his son, Dean (Efron). Unfortunately the son has no interest in agriculture and instead wants to become a race car driver. When the company business suddenly finds itself under investigation, however, the pressure that exists between the father and his boy threatens to explode.

The movie got good reviews on the festival circuit and will his US cinemas in April, although no UK date is set yet. [Read more…]

First Look At The Food-imals Of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2

January 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cloudy-2-pic1Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was a surprise success in 2009, grossing over $250 million and ensuring that Sony was keen to get a sequel into production. That follow-up is due to his UK cinemas this October, and now we’ve got our first look at the movie, via USA Today.

The movie follows on directly from the events in the first movie, where eccentric inventor Flint Locklood caused chaos with a machine that turns water into food. Here’s the synopsis for Cloudy 2: : ‘In the wake of the disastrous food storm at the end of the first movie, Flint Lockwood and friends are forced to leave their town of Swallow Falls. But when it is discovered that sentient food beasts have overrun the island, they are asked to return to save the world…again.’

Bill Hader, who voices Lockwood, comments, “It’s [the machine] created these living food creatures that have basically taken over Flint’s home, the island where he lives. That island is kind of like Jurassic Park.”

You can get you first look at those food-imals above, and then head over to USA Today if you want close-ups of the creatures in the image.
