James Cameron Says Avatar 4 Will Be A Prequel

September 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago rumours surfaced that Avatar 4 was in the works, even though parts 2 and 3 haven’t been made yet. Those rumours appeared to be shot down last week when producer John Landau said that only two more movies were definitely moving forward and they would be shot back to back.

However, now Cameron himself has been talking (to MTV) and says there are plans for Avatar 4, even if only two more movies have the greenlight at the moment. He says, “I have an idea for a fourth. I haven’t really put pen to paper on it, but basically it goes back to the early expeditions of Pandora, and kind of what went wrong with the humans and the Na’vi and what that was like to be an explorer and living in that world. Because when we drop in, even in the first film in Avatar 1, as it will be known in the future, we’re dropping into a process that’s 35 years in to a whole colonization. That will complete an arc and if that leads into more, we’ll start, not imitating Star Wars, but it’s a logical thing to do because we’ll have completed the thematic arc by the end of three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new characters that then become legacy characters in later films. It’s a plan.”

The director is currently working on the scripts for Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, which are targeted for release in December 2014 and December 2015. Here’s what he had to say about his process of making the sequels a more cohesive working environment, “We’ve spent two years refining the whole pipeline. It was a hideously complex process to make that film and a lot has been said about that, but we don’t want it to be done in the same prototypical way as the first one, we want it to be a much smoother workflow just for creativity reasons.”

However Cameron hasn’t given up on his long-gestating plans to make Battle Angel, as John Landau tells MovieZine, “We’ll focus on Avatar for the next four or five years. Hopefully right after that… I am confident you will see it [Battle Angel]. It’s one of my favorite stories, I think it is an incredible story, a journey of self-discovery of a young woman. It is a movie that begs the question: ‘What does it mean to be human? Are you human if you have a heart, are you human if you have a mind, are you human if you have a soul?’ And I look forward to bringing that film to audiences.”

They are looking to released the project in 2017.

Diaz, Firth & Rickman Gambit Character Posters Debut

September 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Gambit was recently moved back to a winter 2013 release in the UK, but it’s still coming to the UK this autumn, with November 21st release date set for the film. The movie features a script by Joel & Ethan Coen, with Michael Hoffman (The Last Station) directing, based on a 1966 movie starring Shirley Maclaine and Michael Caine. Now Orange has debuted three rather cool character posters, featuring Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Private art curator Harry Deane (Colin Firth) devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England’s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar, (Alan Rickman) into purchasing a fake Monet painting. In order to bait his buyer, he recruits a Texas rodeo queen (Cameron Diaz) to cross the pond and pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.

‘BAFTA award winner Sir Tom Courtenay, Golden Globe winner Stanley Tucci and Academy Award© winner and veteran comedienne Cloris Leachman round out the cast.’

Parental Guidance Trailer – Bette Midler & Billy Crystal look after the grandkids

September 10, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Billy Crystal and Bette Midler may not be the box office names they once were, but it’s always god to see them on screen, and now they’ve teamed up for Parental Guidance, based on an idea from Crystal. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Old school grandfather Artie (Crystal), who is accustomed to calling the shots, meets his match when he and his eager-to-please wife Diane (Midler) agree to babysit their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents go away for work. But when 21st century problems collide with Artie and Diane’s old school methods of tough rules, lots of love and old-fashioned games, it’s learning to bend – and not holding your ground – that binds a family together.’ It’s currently due for release on December 28th, 2012.

Documentary On Gay Siblings Seeks Funding

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Many people will have grown up the only gay person in their family, but what about when at least one of your brothers or sisters is also gay? That’s what the documentary Gay Siblings wants to explore, and the filmmakers are currently looking for funding for the first major phase of filming through an Indiegogo campaign.

The documentary will comes from the team of Liz Collier and Cat McShane (who have 20 combined years of documentary filmmaking experience between them), with the latter knowing a fair bit about the subject as she’s the younger of two gay siblings. According to a release, ‘this film will zig-zag across the globe to investigate the rarely explored phenomenon of gay siblings, delving deep into the heart of the gloriously messy and complex world of 21st Century family and telling the stories of extraordinary queer families.

‘From two families with four gay bothers and sisters at their heart, to an upper class mum who took to the Daily Mail to tell the world about her gay daughters, Italian queer triplets with a unique family business and gay twins sister coming to terms with one of them transitioning, our stories open a window on the changing face of family.

‘It is a warm portrait of people’s passionate stories and a unique platform to explore current gay civil rights issues including the fight for gay marriage, same sex parenting and the search for the gay gene.’

The IndieGoGo campaign is currently looking for $7,500, and as usual is offering various rewards depending on how much you give. This money would go towards filming in the United States, where some of our key contributors are based, and key filming in the UK.  Events and interviews include a once-in-a-lifetime family gathering of one of our highest multiple gay sibling families and interviews with some of the world’s leading geneticists working in the field of gay genetics.

If you’d like to help, watch the film above and head over to IndieGoGo.

Is Drew Barrymore Buying A West Hollywood Gay Bar?

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While you might be surprised to hear most celebrities had bought a gay club, with Drew Barrymore it’s perhaps more surprising she doesn’t already have one. According to the National Enquirer (so possibly not true), she’s purchased the Revolver nightspot, which features scantily clad male go-go dancers.

The Enquirer quotes a source saying that Barrymore ‘loves the gay scene’ and allegedly has her sights on another nearby watering hole called Eleven, which she and her friends would like to own.

If you live in LA, don’t rush down and expect to find her behind the bar, as the Gossip Cop website says her representtive denies Barrymore is buying either joint, although her business associate does own Revolver and is looking into taking over Eleven.

Nicolas Cage Set To Be Joe For David Gordon Green

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

David Gordon Green started out with strong indie fare like George Washington and Undertow, but has spent the last few years making silly comedies like Your Highness, Pineapple Express and The Sitter. He’s been planning to get more serious with a remake of Suspiria and has now lined up another movie that takes him back to the gritty dramas he started with.

That movie is Joe, which Variety reports has Nicolas Cage attached to star. The film is based on the novel by Larry Brown about an ex-con who starts an unlikely friendship with a 15-year-old by named Gary Jones. Gary is the oldest child of a homeless family with a drunken father, and sees Joe as a positive, if unlikely, role model. The two of them then set out to try and find redemption and a better life elsewhere in Mississippi.

Gordon Green commented, “When Larry Brown wrote the novel Joe, he instantly created an iconic character of contemporary Southern literature. It is with great excitement that I’ve been able to work with Nicolas Cage to design an absolute and unexpected performance piece that is woven from the darkness, beauty, humor and environment of this material.”

Production is currently being set to start this November in Texas (which incidentally suggest that production on Suspiria has once again been pushed back, as that was supposed to be shooting this autumn).

Tobey Maguire Gets Animated With Cardboard

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Tobey Maguire has been spreading his wings as a producer with the likes of Seabiscuit, Country Strong, Justice and Rock Of Ages, and now he’s teaming up with 20th Century Fox and Ice Age director Chris Wedge for the animated project Cardboard.

The story is based on Douglas TenNapel’s graphic novel about a young boy who receives only a cardboard box for his birthday from his widowed father. They turn the box into a boxer named Bill, who somehow comes to life. The duo must protect their creation from the neighborhood bully, who has nefarious plans for Bill. Tobey Maguire will primarily be involved as a producer, although he may voice one of the main roles.

Chris Wedge is considering taking the helm, although it doesn’t seem that a screenwriter has been brought on board to write the adapted screenplay yet. No production schedule has been released at this time. (Source: Variety)

Hunger Games: Catching Fire Gets Jeffrey Wright as Beetee

September 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lionsgate has announced that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, helping to round out the cast for the movie, which begins shooting soon. Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname ‘Volts’ because of his electronics expertise.

Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Wright won Tony Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner’s epic Angels in America and reprised his role(s) in Mike Nichols’ 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his groundbreaking performance. Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as Basquiat, Source Code, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, W., Syriana and Cadillac Records.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. As they embark on a ‘Victor’s Tour’, Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever and thrusts former champions back into the arena.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be directed by Francis Lawrence, with a release date of November 22nd, 2013 already set.
