Wes Craven Has A Coming Of Rage

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Wes Craven might not have had too much success with Scream 4, but he’s sticking with the horror genre and teaming up with Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) for a new graphic novel entitled Coming of Rage, which will also be adapted into a movie.

Deadline doesn’t have any plot details, although the five-issue graphic novel will be released by Liquid Comics sometime in 2013. Producer Arnold Rifkin and Liquid Comics CEO Sharad Devarajan are developing the movie adaptation. It isn’t known if either Wes Craven or Steve Niles will write the screenplay adaptation themselves, or if they will seek another writer.

The graphic novel will be the first product to come out of the deal made between Wes Craven, Arnold Rifkin, and Liquid Comics back in 2010.

Brendan Fraser Gets A Split Decision

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Brendan Fraser is a sort of 21st Century version of the b-movie actors of the 1950s – quite popular but rarely in anything that’s all that good. He’s had a particularly rough patch with the likes of Extraordinary Measures and Furry Vengeance, but he’s got an awful lot of film in post-production and now he’s signed up to make one more, the action thriller Split Decision.

Fraser plays a father who must defend his two children from a pair of murderers. The girls witness a killing while on a wilderness camping trip with a family friend. The two criminal brothers (Dominic Purcell and Ethan Suplee) behind the killing start to hunt down the children to silence them, so Fraser sets out to rescue them.

Damian Lee has written and will direct the film, which starts shooting in Canada soon. (Source: THR)

Warner Bros Snaps Up ‘Young Adult 50 Shades’, Beautiful Disaster

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner Bros. has beaten out CBS Films in a bidding war for Jamie McGuire’s novel Beautiful Disaster, according the THR, which is described as a young adult version of Fifty Shades of Grey.

You might be wondering how on earth there could be a ‘young adult version of Fifty Shades of Grey’, but the story is about straight-laced college student Abby Abernathy, who abstains from drinking and cursing. She makes an unusual bet with sexy college bad boy Travis Maddox, who’s described as ‘lean, cut, and covered in tattoos’. If Abby wins the bet, Travis must abstain from having sex for a month. If Travis wins, Abby must live with him for a month. It’s not quite as raunchy as Fifty Shades of Grey, but still has the power play.

No screenwriter or director is attached as yet, but Warners is betting it’ll be a success, as it’s sold over 200,000 copies since being self-published through Amazon’s CreateSpace, with virtually no advertising. A physical paperback version will be released in the US this month.

Diane Lane Has Every Secret Thing For Director Amy Berg

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Diane Lane has signed on to star in an adaptation of Laura Lippman’s 2004 novel Every Secret Thing, which will mark the narrative directorial debut of documentary filmmaker Amy Berg, who’s best known for West of Memphis.

Nicole Holofcener is writing the screenplay, which revolves around two 11-year-old girls who are convicted of murdering a baby. They are sent to prison until they turn 18, although, when they are released, other children start to go missing. As the police question the two girls again, the mystery surrounding the original crime begins to unravel. Diane Lane will play the mother of one of the girls, who knows that her daughter is a cunning liar.

It isn’t know exactly when the film might shoot. (Source: Variety)

Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton Have A Two Night Stand

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Project X star Miles Teller and Crazy Stupid Love’s Analeigh Tipton have signed up to play the leads in Max Nichols’ upcoming romantic comedy Two Night Stand, according to Variety.

The comedy is about two lovers who have a regrettable one night stand, only to get trapped together during a record-setting blizzard. As you might expect from this sort of film, while both of the just want to get away from each other after their night of fun, the forced extension to their time together causes them to re-evaluate.

Music video director Max Nichols is set to direct the project from a Black Listed script by Mark Hammer.

Hugh Jackman & Lee Daniels Team For Orders to Kill

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Hugh Jackman and openly gay director Lee Daniels (Precious) tried to team up last year for a civil rights march drama, but that fell through due to lack of funding. Now they’re trying again, once more for a project about the civil rights struggle.

They’re both up for an upcoming adaptation of William F. Pepper’s nonfiction book Orders to Kill. The book follows the story of William F. Pepper (Hugh Jackman), an attorney and activist who argued that James Earl Ray did not shoot Martin Luther King. The movie will focus on the years that the writer started a campaign to prove that the US government was behind the murder. He believes that the government wanted Martin Luther King dead, due to his open opposition to the Vietnam War.

The script is being written by Hanna Weg, although there’s no news when it might shoot, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one had difficulty finding funding too. (Source: LA Times)

James Franco Joins Jason Statham in Homefront

August 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you asked most people who’d they’d expect to pair up for a movie, few people would say James Franco and Jason Statham – especially working from a script by Sylvester Stallone. However perhaps it shouldn’t be the surprising, as Franco seems to make it his mission in life to confound expectations.

Variety reports that’s just what’s happening, as Franco has signed on to star alongside Jason Statham in Homefront. The movie is about Phil Broker (Jason Statham), a former DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town to escape his past. However, he discovers the town is overrun by a dangerous meth distributor named Gator (James Franco).

Gary Fleder is directing from a script by Sylvester Stallone. It isn’t known if Sylvester Stallone plans on starring in the project as well.

Trans Matrix Director Lana Wachowski Makes A Rare Appearance In Cloud Atlas Video

July 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Before the release of 2008’s Speed Racer, it was revealed that Lana Wachowski, who had directed the likes of The Matrix movies as Larry, was in the process of transitioning from male to female.

Lana completed her transition at some point after the release of Speed Racer, and then set to work, still alongside Andy, on several ambitious projects. One of her planned films, described as a ‘gay Iraq war love story’, couldn’t find funding, but they’ve now shot Cloud Atlas, with Run Lola Run’s Tom Twyker joining them for the multi-story film, which stars the likes of Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw and Hugh Grant.

Now Lana has made her first official appearance since her transition (she and Andy never have made many public appearances, so it’s unsurprising it’s taken a while until we’ve seen her) in a video in which she, Andy and Tom joke around and explain the creative process that went into making Cloud Atlas. You can watch that video above, and we’ve also embedded the epic and fascinating trailer they’re talking about below.

New Skyfall Trailer – James Bond is back (after being dead for a bit)

July 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s all action in the new Skyfall trailer, which suggest 007 is back on track after the messy blip that was Quantum Of Solace. It appears Bond is believed dead and M is in a bit of trouble. However the thankfully still breathing 007 is called back into action, meeting his new Q (Ben Whishaw), going up against a very blond Javier Bardem and watching an awful lot of things explode. It’s looking very cool and will hit UK cinemas on October 26th, before it hits the US on November 9th.

Luke Wilson Up For Million Dollar Man

July 31, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Luke Wilson has never quite hit the career heights of his brother Owen, but he’s still a dependable figure in a film. Now he’s signed up for a new one, as Variety reports that Luke will take the lead in the comedy Million Dollar Man.

The flick is about a man who’s down on his luck and working as a driver for a soft drinks company. He then gets a second chance in like playing a football kicker, which is presumably when he becomes the million dollar man of the title.

Scott Marshall, who’s the son of Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall, is set to direct the film from a script by Alex Schrader.
