Simple Moves finished shooting in April, and now the trailer for the movie has arrived online, which makes it seems this is going to be a rather intense movie. The film is a psychological thriller centered on the life of an illegal Russian boy who after losing his family, is pushed into becoming a gay escort – ultimately trying to come to terms with who he thinks he is. You can find out more at movie’s Facebook page. The film should be released in 2013.

John Cameron Mitchell Working On Hedwig Sequel
If you’ve never seen Hedwig And The Angry Inch, the 2001 film version of John Cameron Mitchell’s audacious gay/trans musical, you’ve missed a treat. In fact you should stop reading this and go get a copy immediately. The movie follows Hedwig, a German immigrant to the US, whose botched sex change operation leaves her with the titular ‘angry inch’.
Now it’s been revealed that Mitchell is working on a follow-up, which appears destined for the stage at the moment, but let’s hope for a movie version too. The news was revealed by the writer/director/star’s friend, Kevin Sessums (via Vulture), who spoke to Mitchell and briefly mentioned the movie. According to the piece, it will be ‘something that could only happen to Hedwig – a phantasmagoria with dollops of brutal reality interwoven into its multi-media narrative.’ The music will be provided by Kevin Trask, who also penned the tunes for the original.
Mitchell isn’t saying much though, simply noting, ‘We spend so much of our early lives trying to figure out who we really are. And we spend the rest of our lives preparing ourselves to let it go.’
We can only hope a movie version eventually arrives, as Hedwig is one of the best LGBT movies ever made. It’s far from impossible, as since his musical success, Mitchell has become a successful director with the likes of Shortbus and Rabbit Hole.
Silent Hill Revelation Trailer
The film version of Silent Hill wasn’t exactly a huge success (although it could have been worse), but if they were going to make a sequel, you’d have thought they’d have done it several year ago. But now, six years on, we get Silent Hill: Revelations, which sees Sean Bean and Radha Mitchell back in the world of the videogame, although the action gets a bit of teen focus this time. In the film, young Heather Mason and her father (Bean) have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she’s not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever. The movie’s due out at Halloween.
John Goodman Takes On The Internship
With The Internship just started shooting, director Shawn Levy is busy pulling together the last few cast members for the Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson comedy. Now Variety reports he’s signed up John Goodman and Eric Andre for the movie, although don’t expect much more than a cameo from Goodman.
The movie sees Vaughn and Wilson as two old-school salesmen who, finding themselves suddenly unemployed and passed-by in the digital world, try to reinvent themselves by becoming interns at a major tech company. The film is based on Vaughn’s original script.
Goodman is set to play the big boss of the company Vaughn and Wilson intern at, while US comedian/actor Eric Andre will be the guy who has to mentor the men. (Source: Variety)
Warner Bros Planning A Shining Prequel
Should The Shining get a prequel? That’s the question Warner Bros. is currently exploring, with very early work started on ideas for a new film set in the world of the 1980 Stanley Kubrick horror classic, according to the LA Times.
Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island), Brad Fischer (Black Swan), and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) have been brought on as producers, to explore a new take on the project. The story will be set before Jack Torrance and his family arrive at the foreboding Overbrook Hotel, although it isn’t clear what direction the film might take (or if there have been any decisions on that yet). Presumably the movie wwill look at part of the Overbrook’s long, horror-filled history.
No screenwriters or directors have been attached yet, although it is possible that either Laeta Kalogridis or James Vanderbilt could draft the script, since they are well-know screenwriters as well as producers. Author Stephen King, who wrote the original novel, is also writing a sequel novel, although it isn’t known if that will be developed into a new movie as well.
Dustin Lance Black Is Planning An Earthquake With JJ Abrams
Universal Pictures is teaming up with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company for a new disaster movie, currently called Earthquake. The gay, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk) has been hired to write the screenplay, according to Deadline.
No specific story details are known, although it has been revealed that this is not a remake of Universal’s 1974 film Earthquake, which starred Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner. J.J. Abrams will produce alongside his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk. The project was first set up at the studio back in 2008, with The Omen writer David Seltzer penning the script.
J.J. Abrams will be competing with a similar project called San Andreas: 3D at New Line Cinema. Lost producer Carlton Cuse (and therefore a former Abrams cohort) is writing the screenplay for that one, with Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) directing.
Rachel Nichols Joins The Ten O’Clock People
Actress Rachel Nichols (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) is one of those actresses that Hollywood keeps trying to break big, but who’s never quite made it. She’s appeared in GI Joe, Star Trek, Conan The Barbarian and had an unsuccessful stint in TV’s Criminal Minds. Now she’s planning to get another movie under her belt, as she has signed on to star in The Ten O’Clock People, adapted from Stephen King’s short story.
Tom Holland (Fright Night, Child’s Play) is adapting the short story and directing, which follows Brandon Pearson (Justin Long), a Boston man who is trying to quit smoking. While he tries to kick the habit, he makes the terrifying discovery that many authority figures are actually monsters, hiding in plain sight (which he can see while in withdrawal). Rachel Nichols will play a woman who can also see these creatures.
It isn’t certain when the movie might shoot. (Source: THR)
Madagascar Helmer Tom McGrath To Direct Rentaghost
Director Tom McGrath is well known for his Dreamworks Animation efforts such as MegaMind and the three Madagascar movie, but now he’s in talks to make his live-action directorial debut with a movie version of Rentaghost.
Ben Stiller is set to star in this comedy, based on the 1976 BBC series Rentaghost. The story follows Fred Mumford (Ben Stiller), a recently-deceased man who never lived up to his full potential on Earth. Determined to be more productive, he decides to form an agency in the afterlife dubbed Rentaghost, where ghosts are leased out to help the living.
Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (Reno 911!, Night at the Museum) wrote the screenplay, although it isn’t known exactly when it might shoot. (Source: Variety)
Dark Knight Rises Stays Atop The US Box Office
Going into this weekend, there was a lot of debate over whether the US public was still put off going to the cinema by the terrible events in Colorado. In the end, while there probably was still a bit of a knock on effect, it wasn’t as bad as some had predicted. The Dark Knight Rises handily won the weekend, taking another $60 million for a 10 day total of $289 million, just behind the $313 million The Dark Knight had taken at this stage.
The new entries were pretty weak though. The Watch landed in third spot with just $13 million, below many of the already soft predictions many had for it. The marketing seems to be the problem here, with many left unclear exactly what sort of film the Ben Stiller movie is, especially as some promos pretty much ignored the alien invasion angle while others only concentrated on that.
Step Up Revolution made it to number four with $11.8 million. To be honest it’s not a horrible start as the film don’t cost much to make, but it’s well down on previous instalments in the series.
Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of June 27th-29th.
Rank | Title | Weekend Gross (millions) | Total Gross to date (millions) |
1 | The Dark Knight Rises | $64.0 | $289.0 |
2 | Ice Age: Continental Drift | $13.3 | $114.8 |
3 | The Watch | $13.0 | $13.0 |
4 | Step Up Revolution | $11.8 | $11.8 |
5 | Ted | $7.5 | $193.6 |
6 | The Amazing Spider-man | $6.8 | $242.0 |
7 | Brave | $4.2 | $217.2 |
8 | Magic Mike | $2.5 | $107.5 |
9 | Savages | $1.7 | $43.8 |
10 | Moonrise Kingdom | $1.3 | $38.3 |
