It’s over two years since they filmed The Oranges, but its only now a trailer has arrived, ahead of a US release this autumn (with a UK debut hopefully coming soon afterwards). The movie sees Hugh Laurie as a middle-aged man who falls for the daughter (Leighton Meester) of a family friend, with the May to December romance causing all sorts of problems.

Jack & Diane Trailer – Riley Keough & Juno Temple fall in love, with a dash of horror
Jack And Diane has long been billed the ‘lesbian werewolf movie’, although that’s a bit of a misnomer. Now we get our first look at the movie, which is about the title character (June Temple and Riley Keough) who are two teenage girls that meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But when Jack discovers that Diane is moving she pushes her away. Unable to grasp her new feelings, Diane’s emotions begin to cause unexplainable violent changes to her body. Through these awkward and insecure feelings, the two girls must struggle to turn their first love into an enduring one. There are elements of horror to the film, but to call it a ‘lesbian werewolf movie’ isn’t quite right. The film premiered at Tribeca in April, and will hopefully get a release later this year.
Ric Roman Waugh Taking On Deepwater Horizon
While the news was filled in 2010 with reports about the devastating impact of the oil gushing from under the Deepwater Horizon oil platform, you could have been forgiven for forgetting that the reason the oil was erupting from the ocean floor was because of an explosion that left 11 men dead and 17 more injured.
Last year Summit revealed they were working on a movie about the disaster, and now Deadline say that former stuntman Ric Roman Waugh (In The Shadows, Felon) is in talks to direct the film, which will look into the rig’s terrible end. The movie will be based on The New York Times article Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hour, by David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul, which charts exactly what went wrong, including the bravery of the crew in the minutes leading up to the disaster, as well as the attempts of 100 others to stay alive.
It isn’t clear when the movie might shoot, but hopefuly all involved will have their tasteful hats on when making this, as the disaster is still a fresh one.
Tyler Labine & Lucy Punch Up For Someone Marry Barry
It’s been announced that principal photography has begun on Someone Marry Barry, a raucous comedy written and directed by Academy Award-nominee Rob Pearlstein. Tyler Labine, Damon Wayans Jr., Lucy Punch, Hayes MacArthur, Thomas Middleditch, Frankie Shaw and Amanda Lund are all set to star.
Someone Marry Barry follows three friends who plot to get rid of their socially inappropriate friend Barry by finding him a wife. But when Barry finally meets a woman, she turns out to be just like him, and now the guys have to deal with not one but two ‘Barrys’. Through their tribulations with this uncensored duo, the guys learn some truths about the nature of friendship and love.
“The funniest, most outrageous characters are often relegated to the role of sidekick,” says Pearlstein. “We’re bringing those characters front and center and giving them their own love story. But the movie is also a love story between the friends, and at its heart, it’s about how friendship endures against all odds.”
Liev Schreiber Joins The Butler As Lyndon B. Johnson
There are going to be an awful lot of US Presidents in The Butler, as it’s about a man who served eight of them working in the White House. The likes of John Cusack (Richard Nixon), Alan Rickman (Ronald Reagan), James Marsden (JFK), and Robin Williams (Dwight D Eisenhower) are already onboard, and now they’ve been joined by Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, according to Deadline.
The movie is a biopic about longtime White House butler, Eugene Allen (Forest Whitaker), began his White House employment in 1952, under President Harry S. Truman, and retired in 1986, during President Ronald Reagan’s second term in office. In that time the African American rose through the ranks and was there as the Civil Rights struggle played out in the halls of power.
Jane Fonda, Minka Kelly, David Oyelowo, Oprah Winfrey Melissa Leo, Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Redgrave, Cuba Gooding Jr, Elijah Kelly, Jesse Williams, Mariah Carey and more are also set to star. Lee Daniels will direct from a script by Danny Strong.
Peter Jackson Deep In Talks For Third Hobbit Film
As The Hobbit is a shorter book than any of the three parts of Lord Of The Rings, many wondered if there was enough plot for two films, but at Comic-Con, Peter Jackson suggested he was thinking as actually making it into three. Now THR reports that the director is in “accelerated” talks with the studio about making a third movie.
The filmmaker has said that he shot an abundance of material that he would not be able to fit into either of the planned movies, which sparked speculation that a third movie may be in the works. Warner Bros. is now reportedly on board with the proposal, if they can make it for the right price, since new deals will have to be negotiated with cast members. At any rate, a decision must be made very soon, according to an unidentified source close to the production, “If we’re going to do it, we have to make a decision soon. It’s strongly driven by the filmmakers’ desire to tell more of the story.”
If a third movie is given the green light, shooting will likely take place for a couple of months in New Zealand, sometime next summer. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is slated for release on December 14th, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again arriving in cinemas December 13th, 2013. The proposed third movie would likely debut during December of 2014, if it comes to fruition.
Jon Favreau Joins Wolf of Wall Street
Jon Favreau may be a much in-demand director but he hasn’t given up acting, and now Deadline reports that he has signed on for a role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio.
Favreau will play a securities lawyer, although no further character details are known. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Jordan Belfort, a Long Island stock broker who made millions selling phony stocks in the 1980s. The story is adapted from Belfort’s memoir, which chronicles his rise and fall, including his bouts of substance abuse. Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, and Rob Reiner also star.
Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire). Production is scheduled to begin next month in New York City.
Watch A Six-Minute Anna Karenina Clip
Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina sounds quite unusual, with the director starting a new six-minute clip by saying the entire thing was shot inside a theatre, with the sets built inside, to allow actors to move from one place to another fluidly. It’s a unique way of doing things, which is probably why they’re trying to drum up interest with this clip.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).
‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.
‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’
First Poster For Dreamworks Animation’s Me And My Shadow
While Dreamworks Animation’s movie often feel a bit uninventive compared to Pixar, they’re trying something new with Me And My Shadow, a mix of hand-drawn and CG animation that’s due out Spring 2014.
Now the first poster for the film has been released over on Facebook. There’s also a quote from DreamWorks Animation Chief Creative Officer Bill Damaschke, who says, “Me and My Shadow, which is out in spring of 2014, is a combination of CG and traditional hand drawn animation. There is a reason to tell the story in that fashion. It’s about what would happen if your shadow, that has been following you around and basically just follows what you do your whole life, just stood up and took over. The shadows will be animated hand drawn, and the other characters will be CG animated. There is a reason to do it [hand drawn animation] that felt creatively interesting.”
The Dark Knight Rises At The US Box Office
This weekend’s box office numbers were understandably delayed out of respect for the victims of last week’s Colorado shooting. However now they’ve been released, with The Dark Knight Rises taking a massive $160 million, the third biggest opening weekend ever after The Avengers and Deathly Hallows Part 2, and the biggest ever for a 2D release.
Many suspect the film’s gross was slightly supressed due to the shooting, as most had expected it to take between $170 and $180 million. Even so, most people refused to be put off by the horrific acts just outside Denver.
The Dark Knight Rises was the only new release in the top 10, with most of the other movies slipping down a place. Some suspect it was family films more than Batman that were affected by the massacre, with parents keeping children out of the multiplxes. Ice Age 4 dropped far more than expected, 56% off from last weekend.
Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of July 20th-22nd.
