After a brief teaser yesterday, the first full trailer for Dredd has arrived, and while the Judge himself looks pretty badass, the jury is still out on the movie itself. Dredd takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilisation on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. It’s a tough world, and one that’s hopefully going to be better than when Stallone was in charge. Lena Headey, Olivia Thirlby and Domhnall Gleeson also star, with Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directing and Alex Garland on scripting duties (and it’s the last of these that should give us the most hope). The film’s due out September 7th.

First Trailer & Poster For Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina
Director Joe Wright has reteamed with his Pride & Prejudice and Atonement star Keira Knightley for a new take on Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, and has brought Aaron Johnson, Jude Law and Kelly MacDonald along for the ride. Now the first trailer and poster has arrived, ahead of the film’s release on September 3rd. The poster makes everything look a bit Baz Luhrman, while the trailer focuses on the film’s rather extravagant opulence.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Keira Knightley stars as Anna Karenina in Joe Wright’s version of Tolstoy’s epic love story. Adapted by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), Jude Law plays Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy) stars as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast are Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).
‘The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.
‘Anna Karenina marks Wright’s fourth film with Working Title, following the award-winning box office successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement and The Soloist. The film is produced by Working Title co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and reunites them with Paul Webster, all three of whom produced Wright’s first two films Pride & Prejudice and Atonement.’

New Writers Hired To Script Jurassic Park 4
Although Jurassic Park III was, well, rubbish, making another of the popular dinosaur movies seems a bit of a no-brainer, but despite JP4 having been in the works for aeons, it’s now 11 years since we’ve had a Jurassic Park movie.
However things are slowly moving forwards, with it being revealed last year that Steven Spielberg was working with Thor screenwriter Mark Protosevich to go over ideas for another installment in the franchise.
While Protosevich came up with various plans, now Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has hired Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver to pen the actual screenplay for Jurassic Park 4. Raffa and Silver worked on the script for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, suggesting they may be a goood match for the dinosaur movies.
Spielberg isn’t planning to direct the JP4, but at the moment it isn’t known who might helm. And if you’re hankering for some Jurassic Park in cinemas, the first movie is being re-released in 3D on July 19th, 2013.

Bill Paxton is playing a high-ranking member of the CIA with Paula Patton portraying Denzel Washington’s love interest.

Director Ivan Reitman Selects Draft Day
Ivan Reitman seems to have realised Ghostbusters 3 either isn’t going to happen or is still a long way off, as he’s now found something to direct in the meantime. Paramount Pictures has picked up Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman’s screenplay Draft Day, with Reitman attached to direct.
The American football comedy is about the struggling Buffalo Bills NFL football team, focussing on their general manager trying to find a star player in the upcoming draft. Rajiv Joseph currently writes for the Showtime series Nurse Jackie, and Scott Rothman has a number of projects in development, including First Timers and Frat Boy. Both writers were classmates at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
It isn’t known when the film might shoot. (Source: Deadline)
Rob Reiner On For Wolf Of Wall Street
Nowadays Rob Reiner is best known as the director of Stand By Me, When Harry Met Sally and This Is Spinal Tap, but he started out as an actor, most famously on the sitcom All In The Family. Now he’s getting back in front of the camera, as Variety reports he’s in talks for Martin Scorsese’s financial drama, The Wolf of Wall Street.
Assuming a deal is finalised, Reiner will play Max Belfort, the father of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Jordan Belfort. Based on Jordan’s memoirs, the story follows the ups and downs of Belfort’s tumultuous run as a fraudulent stock broker in Long Island. The biopic will also focus on his personal demons, including addictions to drugs and alcohol, before he was locked up on securities fraud charges for 20 months.
Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, and Jon Bernthal also star. Martin Scorsese is directing from an adapted screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, based on Belfort’s 2008 memoir. Shooting is set to start this August in New York City.
Jim Parsons Says Happy Smekday
Coming out isn’t going to slow down The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons’ careers, as DreamWorks Animation has announced that Parsons and Rihanna have landed the leading roles in Happy Smekday!, a feature film based on the critically acclaimed book, The True Meaning of Smekday, by Adam Rex. Tim Johnson (Over The Hedge, Antz) direct.
“When I read Adam Rex’s remarkable book, I knew it would make an amazing film. I can’t wait to introduce audiences to the unique world and characters of Happy Smekday!” said Johnson.
In Happy Smekday! an alien race invades Earth and uses it as a hideout from their mortal enemy. When one lowly alien accidentally notifies the enemies of his whereabouts, he is forced to go on the run with a teenage girl. The two become unlikely buddies and embark on a comical globe-trotting adventure to right his wrongs, in which our alien hero learns what it really means to be human. Dreamworks plans to release Happy Smekday! towards the end of 2014. (Source: THR)
Jim Carrey Out Of Dumb and Dumber 2
Last October, is was revealed that Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly were planning Dumb and Dumber 2 (apparently going under the working title Dumb and Dumber To), which at the time had both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels set to return as Lloyd and Harry.
However Jim Carrey has left the project, due to New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. showing a, “lack of enthusiasm” for the follow-up, according to ET Online. Here’s what Carrey had to say, through his publicist. “I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.”
The Farrelly brothers have had casting roadblocks in the past involving the funnyman. He was set to star alongside Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro in The Three Stooges before the project fell apart. Of course, it will be a lot harder to re-cast a role like Lloyd Christmas for a sequel, especially for a comedy as popular as Dumb and Dumber. It’s also not clear what a ‘lack of enthusiasm’ means, although suggests perhaps the studio didn’t want to pay what Carrey was asking.
Sex Drive writers Sean Anders and John Morris wrote the screenplay for the Farrelly’s to direct from. It’s not clear yet if this casting departure will mean the end of the sequel or not.
