Schwarzenegger & Stallone Confirmed for The Tomb

February 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the 1980s, film fans cried out for a film that would team Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone together in one movie, but it never happened. However since Arnie’s returned to the movies from politics, they can’t stop working together. After two Expendables movies, the duo have now been confirmed for The Tomb, which starts shooting this spring, with Mikael Hafstrom (1408) directing.

The Tomb follows Ray Breslin (Stallone) who is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. He’s analyzed every high security prison and has gained a vast array of survival skills, but all Ray’s ingenuity and knowledge are about to be put to work in the most challenging test he’s ever faced: escaping from the master prison of his own design.

Schwarzenegger, in the role of Church, plays ‘a complex inmate with multiple shades of grey’. He’s the guy who fights to keep the prisoners from losing their humanity in their darkest hour as they struggle together to stay alive.

Jason Statham Signs Up For William Goldman’s Heat Remake

February 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With the European Film Market gearing up at the Berlin Film Festival, loads of new movies are being announced, in the hope they’ll pick up sales at the event. One of the latest to be revealed is a remake of the 1987 Burt Reynolds feature film Heat, with Jason Statham set to star and Brian De Palma directing the action film from a script adapted by two-time Oscar winner William Goldman (Witness, Butch Cassidy).

Goldman also wrote the original 1987 screenplay and the novel of the same name it’s based on. Both the modern take as well as the film from the 80’s are based on Goldman’s novel of the same title.

The action-thriller tells the story of a recovering gambling addict (Statham) who makes his living providing protection in the rough edges of the gambling world. Statham’s character refuses to resort to gunplay, strictly using hand and edged weapon combat. When a dear friend is brutally beaten by a high-rolling mobster, he helps her get her revenge and he ends up in more trouble than he ever imagined.

Heat will commence principal photography in France in late 2012 or early 2013.

Natalie Portman Joins Two Terrence Malick Flicks

February 9, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Natalie Portman won an Oscar for Black Swan and then promptly stopped making movies so she could be a full time mum for a while, but now she’s getting ready to go back to work, as Deadline reports she’s signed on to both of director Terrence Malick’s new movies, which are due to shoot back to back this year, called Knight of Cups and Lawless.

These are the first movies she has committed to since Black Swan (although she;s also contractually obliged to star in Thor 2).

Knight of Cups will start shooting this summer and already has Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas attached to star. Lawless begins production in the fall and is set to star Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Haley Bennett, and Justin Wheelon. As is the case with most Terrence Malick projects, no story details have been released for either movie.

Celebs React With Happiness To Prop 8 Ruling

February 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The pic above, released by Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, who appears in the image with gay co-star and on-screen lover Jesse Tyler Ferguson, is perhaps the best argument we’ve heard for allowing gay marriage in California. They’re right – who wouldn’t want to watch Mitchell and Cameron tie the knot on the hit sitcom?

Theirs was but one response to the Ninth Circuit Court Of Appeal decision to uphold a lower court ruling that Prop 8 – which banned same sex marriage in California – was unconstitutional. While the Republican presidential nominees lined up to sound like intolerant, bigoted dinosaurs, many celebs where much happier with the result.

J. Edgar and Milk screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black, who’s written a play about the Prop 8 trial and has been at the forefront of the fight against it, tweeted, ‘With our beautiful plaintiffs now. Hugs and cheers as the 9th circuit court of appeals affirmed that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional!’ You can watch his reaction in a video below.

Here’s some other celeb tweets:

Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy creator) ‘Prop 8 architects: Every civil rights battle is eventually won by the oppressed party. Save your hundred mil and buy some Bud platinum.’

Damon Lindelof (producer of Lost): ‘My feed right now: Celebration on Prop 8 unconstitutionality and outrage over no muppets singing at Oscars. I love you, Twitter.’

Olivia Wilde (Actress): ‘Woohoo!! Die Prop 8 Die!!!! 9th Circuit just ruled you unconstitutional. Next step Supreme Court!’

Ellen Degeneres: ‘Couldn’t be happier. … Today we took another step towards equality.’

Miley Cyrus: ‘We’re one step closer beautiful people.’

Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson Reuniting For Interns

February 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson had a big hit with Wedding Crashers and now it appears they want to team up again for Interns, which Vulture reports they’re working on together, with Real Steel and Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy set to helm.

Vaughn also wrote the script, which is about ‘Vaughn and Wilson will play forty-ish company guys who both get laid off in a downsizing. Convinced they’ve gone about managing their careers entirely wrong, they resolve to become interns at a Google-like dotcom and start anew. Suddenly, the two old chums are competing against wily, fresh-faced 22 year olds for advancement.’ With the comedy duo’s chemistry, it could work exceptionally well.

It appears the movie may go ahead fairly soon, as while Levy was due to direct a new take on Frankenstein next and Vaughn was preparing for a film called Insane Laws, both of those movies fell apart due to budget issues. At the same time, while Universal owned the rights to Interns, they recently cut it loose, with 20th Century Fox snapping it up and using the fact Vaughn, Wilson and Levy are all suddenly free to swoop in and get the film made as soon as possible. So expect to hear more casting news soon.

The Bourne Legacy Trailer

February 8, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matt Damon may be gone, but the Bourne franchise lives on with Jeremy Renner taking over as a new agent who came out of the same program as Jason Bourne. Now the first trailer for the movie has arrived, and to be honest it doesn’t reveal a huge amount about the movie, except that Edward Norton’s going to try and brainwash Jeremy Renner, and that ‘Jason Bourne was just the tip of the iceberg’. It certainly looks explosive though! the film’s due out August 17th. The new poster if below.
