A Thousand Words Trailer

November 11, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Eddie Murphy reads a script, something different must happen in his head to what goes on in everyone else’s. Indeed is someone told you this trailer was actually a spoof taking the piss out of dumb Hollywood movies, you’d probably believe it. In the film Jack McCall (Murphy) is a fast-talking literary agent who can close any deal, any time, any way. He has set his sights on New Age guru Dr. Sinja for his own selfish purposes. But Dr. Sinja is on to him, and Jack’s life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are toast. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he’s got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he’s a goner. And yes, that premise is as stupid as it sounds. A Thousand Words is due in cinemas next March.

George Tillman Plans Miles Davis Biopic

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

With Notorious he dealt with the world of modern rap, but now it appears director George Tillman Jr. wants to stay with music but move across to classic jazz with a biopic of Miles Davis. THR reports Tillman is now attached to the movie, which will be made with the help of Davis’ eldest son, Gregory.

Davis was an incredibly influential figure who worked with most of the jazz legends, from Charlie Parker and John Coltrane to Gil Evans and Thelonious Monk. He’s been a massive influence on music for over 50 years now, both inside jazz and out. However as seemingly with so many musicians, he battled severe drug addiction that nearly derailed his career. He died in 1991.

“Our intention is to make a feature film that will appeal beyond the worldwide audience of Miles Davis die-hard fans, to also include those who don’t know the first thing about the man, and introduce new ears to his music,” said producer Nick Davis Raynes. “In much the same way that Walk The Line and Ray were able to open the world’s eyes to the life stories of Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, respectively, we want to make a film that will do the same justice for Miles Davis. Miles, in his fifty-year career as a musician, transcends time, space and race.”

Don Cheadle has been trying to get a Miles Davis biopic off the ground for years now, but it isn’t known if he’ll star in this one.

Safe Trailer

November 11, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I’ve been trying to work out whether Jason Statham is doing an American accent in this trailer, or if he’s just constantly sucking on a mint, but it looks like we’re in typical Stath territory here, which ain’t a bad thing. Luke Wright (Jason Statham) is a second rate cage fighter in the mixed martial arts circuit in New Jersey. When he blows a rigged fight, the Russian mafia make an example of him – murdering his wife and threatening to kill anyone he forms any kind of friendship or relationship with. Now homeless, destitute and completely isolated from society, Luke fidns a shot at redemption when he meets and starts to protect Mei, a young prodigy with a perfect memory for numbers, who the triads have been using so there’s no paper trail on their dodgy dealings.

Steve Carell Will Be One Of The Lunatics

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Steve Carell sure likes signing up for movie. Barely a week goes by without news of him attaching himself to yet another movie. Not content with the seemingly hundreds of films he’s already got lined up, Deadline reports he’s now attached to star in an adaptation of Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel’s novel Lunatics for Universal Pictures.

The book is about Philip Horkman, the owner of a pet store who referees kids soccer games on Sundays, whose minor feud with one of the soccer dads escalates until it creates worldwide consequences, and leaves them running for their lives. Barry and Zweibel will adapt their novel, which is set to be published by in January.

It’s not known when it might go into production, but it’s early days so don’t expect it for a while.

Reese Witherspoon May Star In Rule 1

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It seems Reese Witherspoon has lined another movie up, as while she’s only down to produce at the moment, the idea is they’ll shape Rule #1 into a movie for her to start in. Cinema Blend has the news and says they’ve already found a director for the movie, with Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) down to helm.

The film will see Witherspoon ‘play 34-year-old Diana McBride, a woman coping with her OCD who agrees to take in an unpredictable young stranger – who happens to have a newborn baby – in an effort to face her anxieties. Ultimately, McBride’s plan is to win back her estranged husband by convincing him she can handle her chaotic existence.’

Sounds a bit like she’s angling for another Oscar, which might not be a bad plan, as she hasn’t exactly had a huge amount of luck since Walk The Line. There’s no news on when the film might shoot.

Jason Clarke Joins Bigelow’s Bin Laden Pic

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s taken Kathryn Bigelow quite a while to get her follow-up to The Hurt Locker rolling, but now it appears her movie about the guys who hunted down Osama Bin Laden is gearing towards a shoot. Jason Clarke (The Chicago Code, Texas Killing Fields) has become the first actor to sign on for Bigelow’s currently untitled project, which is set up at Sony Pictures.

Clarke will play one of the elite soldiers assigned by the US government to hunt down terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Deadline also says that actors such as Tom Hardy, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, and Nina Arianda are in contention for other roles, although no offers have been made yet. There’s no mention of Joel Edgerton, who was once attached to the film, but seems to have stepped away after delays pushed filming back.

Kathryn Bigelow is directing from a screenplay by Mark Boal, who also wrote the script for The Hurt Locker. Production is scheduled to start sometime early next year, with an October 12, 2012 US release date already set.

Billy Crystal Set To Host The Oscars

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s certainly been all change at the Oscars this week. Brett Ratner stepped down as producer of next year’s ceremony after making a homophobic comment (as well as saying plenty of other idiotic rubbish in the past few weeks). The next day he was followed by host Eddie Murphy, who decided he wasn’t going to do the gig without Ratner.

Then yesterday Brian Grazer came in as the producer of the ceremony and now we also know who’s going to host! After years of people saying he ought to do it – mainly because it hasn’t been as good as since the last time he did it – Billy Crystal has agreed to host the Oscars once more.

Crystal first tweeted the news himself, saying “Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show”. That was shortly afterwards confirmed by the Academy.

It’s great news, but will put a huge amount of pressure of Crystal’s shoulders. In recent years ever host has been compared to him, so there’ll be high expectations come Oscar night on February 26th.

Max Irons Lands The Host

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

A couple of days ago, it was revealed that Jake Abel was set to play one of the male leads in the the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host, and now EW says the other part has gone to Max Irons, son of Jeremy.

In The Host, most of humans have had their brains co-opted by the invasive alien ‘souls’, that are taking people over one by one. Saoirse Ronan is set to play the central character, Melanie Stryder, who has a soul named Wanderer implanted in her mind. However while normally Melanie’s personality would be expected to fade into the background, her emotions and memories overwhelm the invader and makes it change its mind about its races master plan. Irons if set to play Jared Howe, who falls for Wanderer while the soul is in Melanie’s body.

Andrew Niccol (In Time) will direct, with shooting set to begin in February.

Keith Lemon Movie On The Way

November 10, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Like most of Leigh Francis’ creations, from Bo! Selecta to Avid Merrion, Keith Lemon is a bit of a love him or loath him character. However there’s little doubt he’s crossed over into the mainstream, from hosting I’m A Celebrity spin-offs and Celebrity Juice to being a regular guest reviewer on This Morning. Now it seems Lionsgate UK reckons he’s popular another to hit the big screen.

It’ll be the company’s first comedy film, and starts shooting in Belfast on November 17th, with Paul Angunawela directing. Verne Troyer is confirmed to co-star opposite Francis as Keith Lemon. According to the press release, ‘Keith Lemon: The Film is a comedy about Keith following his dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur, just like his hero Richard Branson. He comes to London from Leeds, becomes an overnight billionaire then an over day failure before finding the road to redemption.’

It may be Lionsgate UK’s first comedy movie, but they do have some reason to believe a Keith Lemon film might do quite well as they released his parody workout DVD last Christmas, Keith Lemon’s Fit!, which went on to sell over 100,000 copies.

Keith Lemon adds “It’s a privilege to have the power of sight, hearing, touching and feeling. But to make a film which I am going to be able to see myself in, hear myself in, but unfortunately not touch or feel myself in (because it’s not in 3d) is even more’rer’rer of privilege. Especially since it’s based on true life events that have happened in my true life, apart from of course 982 per cent of it which has been made up simply for entertainment purposes.”

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Trailer

November 10, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Josh Hutcherson’s family certainly seems to be good at getting lost in fantastical places, as after having to Journey To The Center Of The Earth to look for his dad, he’s now off to a Mysterious Island trying to find his grandfather. Brendan Fraser bailed on this one after director Erik Brevig was replaced by Brad Peyton, and so this time Dwayne Johnson’s along for the ride, playing Hutcherson’s prospective stepfather, while Vanessa Hudgens and Luis Guzman also have to deal with various strange beasties on the island, all while looking for Michael Caine! It’s due in cinemas February 10th.
