Hercules Trailer – Plus a poster for the all-action Dwayne Johnson flick

Yesterday Dwayne Johnson’s Hercules got a couple of new images. Well it turns out they were just paving the way for a trailer and poster, which has now shown up online, and which you can see above and below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Paramount and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ film HERCULES, starring Dwayne Johnson, bows on July 25. Based on Radical Comics’ ‘Hercules,’ this ensemble-action film, featuring an international cast, is a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist. HERCULES also stars Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan and John Hurt.

It certainly looks better than this year’s other Hercules movie, starring Kellan Lutz, but it remains to be seen just how good it is, especially as it can’t quite seem to decide whether it wants to follow the myths or not.

The Brett Ratner directed movie will be out in cinemas this summer. [Read more…]

X-Men: Days of Future Past Trailer – Can one film handle this many famous mutants?

X-Men: Days of Future Past always looked like it was gonna be a big movie, but it’s not until this trailer that we’ve been able to see just how massive it is. The idea of the two X-Men casts coming together is exciting enough, but that’s only one part of this trailer, which really piled on some enormous effects-filled set-pieces.

Now we can’t wait until the movie’s May release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.’

Take a look at the trailer where the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage and Halle Berry are only the beginning of the new and old faces we’ll get to see.

There have been several attempts at making gay-themed teen comedies, but most have failed in one way or another. Either the acting was abysmal or more commonly the script lacked wit and direction, feeling more dumb and dull than entertaining and memorable. G.B.F. is certainly a step up from those, with more polished production values, a great cast (including a fair few recognisable faces) and a script with both charm and wit. [Read more…]

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Cinema)

It’s a sign of the times that our superheroes these days are not quite all macho and invincibility, rather plagued with doubts and worries – Batman as Hamlet for example. Captain America seems to be no exception – this actioner has as many scenes with him frowning and worrying over America’s place in the world as zooming around fighting baddies. It’s still not exactly complex – at one point his pal asks, “Which ones are the bad guys” – and he answers, “If they’re shooting at you they’re the bad guys.” [Read more…]

Final The Amazing Spider-man 2 Trailer – Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan & Paul Giamatti unite against Andrew Garfield

With fans already moaning that they thought there were too many villains in The Amazing Spider-man 2, earlier promos have concentrated on Electro and suggested it would be mainly him Spidey was up against. However this final trailer changes tack by concentrating on the fact it’s not just Jamie Foxx’s electro, but also Paul Giamatti’s Rhino and Dane DeHaan’s Goblin – and they’re all uniting against our hero.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.
‘It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.’

Blue Is The Warmest Colour (DVD)

Not many three-hour foreign movies arrive with as much adulation and controversy as Blue Is The Warmest Colour. With incredibly glowing reviews and the Cannes Palm d’Or in in its pocket, it then managed to gain extra notoriety due to a falling out between the lead actresses and the director over how difficult it was to work with him. The controversy was slightly manufactured as a few comments made about the intensity of both Kechiche and the how he makes his movies became a major bust-up in the press, which the director then made 10 times worse by taking it far more personally than it was ever meant to be. The Maze Runner Trailer – Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien gets trapped in a post-apocalyptic future

There’s an endless parade of young adult adaptations trooping into cinemas hoping to be the new Twilight or Hunger Games. Few appear to have much chance of that, but one of the more promising is The Maze Runner, which has a pretty intriguing premise.

Now we can get a feel for the movie with the first official trailer, which looks pretty cool.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the best-selling young adult thriller, THE MAZE RUNNER is set in a post-apocalyptic world where Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) is deposited in a community of young men after his memory is erased. After learning they’re all trapped in a maze, Thomas joins forces with fellow “runners” to not only escape the maze, but solve its riddle and reveal the chilling secret of who brought them there, and why.’

Will Poulter, Kaya Scodelaria, Thomas Brodie-Sangste and Patricia Clarkson co-star. It’ll be out in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Fresh Godzilla Trailer – Aaron Johnson vs. one big city-crushing critter

The marketing for Godzilla has traded on only showing us bit of pieces of the massive creature, with this new trailer being no exception. However we do get to see him shrouded in fog, as well as some sort of enormous flying beastie.

Of course there are also a few humans who have to deal with the legendary city-crusher, such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

New Maleficent Trailer – Fresh look into the world of Angelina Jolie’s bad fairy

Disney’s Maleficent is certainly a great idea, but Disney knows its still got to convince a few people about taking one of its greatest classics – Sleeping Beauty – turning its world live-action and telling things from the point of view of the earlier movie’s villain.

Following yesterday’s great be-winged banner comes a brand new trailer, which you can watch right here.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Blu-ray)

With the first Hunger Games, many remarked that it was surprisingly violent for a young adult film. The second isn’t quite as violent, but it’s is surprisingly dark and gritty. Many wondered whether swapping director Gary Ross for Francis Lawrence would result in a more mainstream, Hollywood-ised tale, but instead it’s rather gone the other way, with a film that doesn’t pull its punches over the darkness and pain at its heart, or try to make its hero less flawed than she is.
