New Anchorman: The Legend Continues Trailer – Plus a new poster for the much-anticipated movie

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was in development for years, but now Anchorman 2 is really coming, with the likes of Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate are all reprising their Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy roles, with Adam McKay directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ferrell.

The film takes place in the late 1970s during the advent of the 24-hour news cycle. Needless to say, the Action 4 News team has trouble adapting to this news format. It also sees Ron heading off on a trip to New York.

Cameos from the likes of Harrison Ford, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Vince Vaughn and loads more are also promised to show up. The film is due out at Christmas. [Read more…]

The Lego Movie Trailer – Looking more fun than you might think

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Lego Movie may not arrive in cinemas until next year, but you can understand why they want to release a trailer nice and early, as a lot of people will be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Well, on the evidence of this, it could be a lot of fun, and it all shows off the various franchises that will show up, including DC superheroes, NBA basketball teams and Ninja Turtles.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

‘Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie join Chris Pratt to form the cast of the first-ever full length theatrical LEGO movie, the greatest movie ever assembled, which is set to hit cinemas in 14th February 2014.’ [Read more…]

Frozen Teaser Trailer – First look at Disney’s take on The Snow Queen

June 18, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Frozen hits cinema on December 6th,  2013, and now Disney has released our first look at the film in the form of a trailer (and five images), which suggest they’re going for a look very similar to Tangled.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio behind “Tangled” and “Wreck-It Ralph,” presents “Frozen,” a stunning big-screen comedy adventure. Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey—teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven—to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

‘The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, “Wreck-It Ralph”), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”). Featuring music from Tony® winner Robert Lopez (“The Book of Mormon,” “Avenue Q”) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit”), “Frozen” is in UK cinemas in 3D on December 6, 2013’

The Wolf of Wall Street Trailer – Leo DiCaprio gets charmingly smarmy in Scorsese’s movie

June 17, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Movies about people in the financial world don’t usually sound that much fun, and to be honest on paper that was true of The Wolf Of Wall Street, but as this trailer shows, it could be incredibly entertaining in its insanity.

The based-on-a-true-story movie is about Jordan Belfort’s meteoric rise, where he made making millions selling phony stocks before he was arrested and sentenced to 22 months in prison for securities fraud. Matthew McConaughey, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Margot Robbie, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reiner, and Jon Favreau also star.

Martin Scorsese directs from a screenplay by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, with a prime Oscar-bait release set for the end of the year.

And just because, take a look at a shirtless shot of Leo from the trailer below. [Read more…]

Elysium Extended Trailer – Matt Damon goes up against Jodie Foster

June 14, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A new, longer trailer for Elysium has arrived, which gives us a better look at the plot than anything we’ve seen before. It certainly look pretty cool, with great visual and an interesting idea behind it, although as with many dystopian movies, it difficult to tell whether this vision of the future will feel real or contrived. There’s also a new poster, which you can see below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’

Neill Blomkamp’s film hits US cinemas on August 9th and the UK on August 26th. [Read more…]

New The Wolverine Trailer – A better look at Hugh Jackman’s latest mutant tale

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The first trailers for The Wolverine largely concentrated on the action, but now a new one has a better feel for the plot of the movie, which sees Hugh Jackman’s Logan heading for Japan.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. 300: Rise Of An Empire Trailer – Hyperstylised, homoerotic ancient Greece is back

June 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A lot of things happened in slow-motion in ancient Greece if the 300 franchise is anything to go by. If you’d though replacing Zack Snyder with Noam Murro for 300: Rise Of An Empire would result in a different visual style, this trailer is here to show it won’t – indeed if anything it’s even more like 300 than 300 was.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war.

‘”300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy.’

Sullivan Stapleton stars, with a release set for March 2014. [Read more…]

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Teaser Trailer – Including our first good look at the dragon

June 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The teaser trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is much what you’d expect. Indeed it was always in danger of seeming exactly like all the promos for the first film, so it makes sure it adds in a few new things, mostly our first looks at Orlando Bloom returning to the role of Legolas, as well as Evangeline Lilly as the elf Tauriel and a decent glimpse of the evil, treasure-loving dragon, Smaug (who’ll be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch).

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece “The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventures of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.

It hits cinemas on December 13th.

White House Down Extended Trailer – Channing Tatum has to save Washington D.C.

June 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The idea of White House Down may be that Channing Tatum has to save the President (Jamie Foxx) from terrorists, but as this extended trailer shows, the whole of Washington DC is in trouble. But then, this is Roland Emmerich, who feels it’s a wasted day if he hasn’t destroyed at least a few major world landmarks.

It may have a similar story to Olympus Has Fallen, but it certainly looks like this will be told on a bigger scale, and with four minutes to give us a taste of the film, it looks pretty fun.

The movie hits US cinemas on June 28th and will reach the UK on September 6th. [Read more…]

Rock Hudson’s Wife Recorded His Gay Confession, But Did She Have Her Own Secrets?

June 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rock-hudson-phyllis-gatesNowadays most people know that Rock Hudson was gay, but back when he was a big star it was a closely guarded secret. Indeed to keep it under wraps he married Phyllis Gates in 1955. Now THR has been given access to a transcript of a coversation where Gates confronted her hubby about his sexuality, which she’d organised to have recorded by private eye Fred Otash.

In the transcript, Gates says, “You told me you saw thousands of butterflies and also snakes. [A therapist] told me in my analysis that butterflies mean femininity and snakes represent that male penis. I’m not condemning you, but it seems that as long as you recognize your problem, you would want to do something about it.”

She also asks about, “your great speed with me, sexually. Are you that fast with boys?”

“Well, it’s a physical conjunction [sic],” replied the then 32-year-old Rock. “Boys don’t fit. So, this is why it lasts longer.”

Phyllis then said, “Everyone knows that you were picking up boys off the street shortly after we were married and have continued to do so, thinking that being married would cover up for you.”

“I have never picked up any boys on the street,” Rock insisted. “I have never picked up any boys in a bar, never. I have never picked up any boys, other than to give them a ride.”

However there are some doubting Gates’ motivations, and that perhaps she didn’t just have the conversation recorded to find out the truth. Indeed many say she knew about Rock’s sexuality and was a lesbian herself.

In her later memoir, ‘My Husband, Rock Hudson’, Gates presented herself as a naive secretary who had no idea about Rock, and was duped into marrying Hudson by gay agent Henry Willson. This may not have been the truth, as Robert Hofler, who wrote a biopic of Willson in 2006, suggested in an interview with the Village Voice, “Phyllis had told various people that marrying Rock ‘would be fun’. She then became addicted to being the wife of a star, and didn’t want the divorce.

“Mark Miller, George Nader (a ’50s actor and close friend of Hudson)’s lover, told me that she had a double standard: Phyllis could play around with women, but Rock had to remain faithful to her. In a way, she was just being pragmatic: she feared that Rock’s exposure would ruin his fame, which was in turn her gravy train.”

The conversation was recorded a few months before Rock and Gates divorced, making some wonder whether she had it taped as a form of blackmail to try and either stay married to Rock, or give herself a bigger slice of his riches.

It’s worth reading the whole of the THR article, which also has other juicy info, such as Otash’ claims he head Marilyn Monroe and JFK having sex, and his involvement in the death of Lana Turner’s boyfriend.
