Life Of The Party Trailer – Melissa McCarthy is going to college with her daughter

February 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna (McCarthy) turns regret into re-set by going back to college…landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna—now Dee Rock—embraces freedom, fun and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

‘The film also stars Gillian Jacobs (“Don’t Think Twice,” “Love,” “Community”), Maya Rudolph (“Bridesmaids,” “Sisters”), Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Matt Walsh (“Veep,” “Ghostbusters”), Molly Gordon (“Love the Coopers,” “Animal Kingdom”), with Stephen Root (“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”), and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook,” “Animal Kingdom”), Jessie Ennis (“Better Call Saul”), Adria Arjona (“True Detective,” “Emerald City”), Debby Ryan (“Jessie”) and Jimmy O. Yang (“Silicon Valley”).’

Blade Runner 2049 (Blu-ray Review) – An artificial Ryan Gosling needs to track down Harrison Ford

February 6, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, Robin Wright, Jared Leto
Director: Denis Villeneuve
Running Time: 164 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 5th 2018 (UK)

When it was first announced that a sequel to Blade Runner was in the works, it seemed like a bad idea. Ridley Scott and Harrison Ford are on a bit of a roll revisiting their greatest hits, following Scott’s Alien Prequels and Ford’s return to Indiana Jones and Star Wars. However, Blade Runner was such a singular movie – and one so far removed from the modern blockbuster – that it seemed a wholly bizarre idea to now be making a sequel.

Scott then handed the directing reigns across to Denis Villeneuve, which gave some guarded optimism following Sicario and Arrival, but it still seemed ill judged. [Read more…]

Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer – An iconic character gets younger in the form of Alden Ehrenreich

February 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The planned Han Solo prequel has certainly had production issues, not least swapping directors partway through the shoot, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ejected, and Ron Howard brought in. However, issues during the making of Rogue One didn’t stop that being a good movie, so there’s still hope here. It is slightly difficult to get a proper feel for the film from this first trailer though.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.’

The movie is due out in May. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Mission: Impossible Fallout Trailer – Tom Cruise is back & he’s brought Henry Cavill along with him

February 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few years ago Tom Cruise was all set to leave the Mission: Impossible franchise, but then it became just about the only thing that guaranteed him a hit, so he stuck around. Now the latest instalment is on its way – Fallout.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Dwayne Johnson seems to be on a mission to prove that nothing can stop him – not even when he’s lost a leg and he’s in an enormous building that’s on fire. That’s what he’s facing in Skyscraper.

New Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Trailer – Dinosaurs aren’t Chris Pratt & Bryce Dallas Howard’s only problem

February 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When the first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom arrived, it got a bit of a mixed reception. For everyone who thought it looked awesome, another wondered whether it was possible for a franchise to jump the shark in a promo. Now a new trailer/expanded Super Bowl Spot has arrived, which shows the movie won’t be totally crazy – although it still looks rather over the top.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful franchises in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

‘Stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return alongside executive producers Steven Spielberg and Colin Trevorrow for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Pratt and Howard are joined by co-stars James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, while BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles.

‘Directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible), the epic action-adventure is written by Jurassic World’s director, Trevorrow, and its co-writer, Derek Connolly. Producers Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley once again partner with Spielberg and Trevorrow in leading the team of filmmakers for this stunning installment. Belén Atienza joins the team as a producer.’

The movie hits cinemas in June. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Avengers: Infinity War Super Bowl Spot – Marvel heroes from across the galaxy come together

February 5, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Marvel/Disney decided that for its Avengers: Infinity War Super Bowl spot, all it needed to do was show just how many heroes its bringing together for the movie. There’s a sense that the 10 years since Iron Man have been leading to this, with the Avengers from earlier movies being joined by the likes of Doctor Strange and the Guardians Of The Galaxy to take on Thanos.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.’

The film hits cinemas April 2018. Take a look at the Super Bowl TV spot below. [Read more…]

A Fantastic Woman Trailer – The Oscar-nominated movie takes a heartfelt look at a trans woman’s struggles

February 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A Fantastic Woman is a fantastic movie, and not just because it’s it’s been critically praised and now has a ‘Best Foreign Language Film of the Year’ Oscar nomination to its name. Starring trans-actress Daniela Vega, it’s a heartfelt, smart, sometimes funny and often angry movie that’s had festival audiences enraptured.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Gloria director Sebastián Lelio returns with A Fantastic Woman, a groundbreaking, captivating and deeply humane story about a trans woman’s fight for acceptance. Anchored by a powerhouse central performance from rising star Daniela Vega, this is an urgent call for compassion towards a community that faces bigotry and hostility on a daily basis.

‘Vega plays Marina Vidal, a young singer whose life is thrown into turmoil following the sudden death of her partner, Orlando. Met with suspicion from the police and contempt from her lover’s relatives, Marina finds herself placed under intense scrutiny, with no regard for her privacy, or her grief. As tensions rise between Marina and Orlando’s family, she is evicted from their shared home and banned from attending his funeral. But faced with the threat of losing everything, Marina finds the strength to fight back.

‘From the producers of Jackie and Toni Erdmann, A Fantastic Woman is an outstanding, timely work, whose award accolades already include a Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at Berlinale and Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the Golden Globes. Soaked in luminous visuals and elevated by elegant flights of surrealism, the film recalls the very best work of Pedro Almodóvar. It is a courageous, audacious and defiant declaration of Marina’s status as a woman – and a fantastic one, at that.’

The UK trailer was recently released, which you can take a look at below. A Fantastic Woman will be in British cinemas on 2nd March 2018. [Read more…]

Disobedience Trailer – Rachel McAdams & Rachel Weisz are forbidden lovers in the lesbian themed movie

February 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not easy for Rachel McAdams & Rachel Weisz in Disobedience, where they play women whose love would be vigorously condemned by the Orthdox Jewish community they come from. The movie is based on Naomi Alderman’s novel, with Sebastian Lelio directing. The lesbian-themed movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to pretty good review, which praised the acting and how heartfelt the somewhat melancholic movie is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Happily single and living a rich life as a photographer in New York, Ronit (Rachel Weisz) is very much the black sheep of her London-based Orthodox Jewish family. When her revered rabbi father dies, Ronit returns home to pay her respects and liquidate her inheritance. But surprises await, chief among them the news that Dovid (Alessandro Nivola) — the heir apparent to Ronit’s father and very much the son he never had — has married Ronit’s childhood friend Esti (Rachel McAdams). While Dovid prepares to take over the hallowed place at the synagogue, Ronit and Esti become reacquainted. An old flame is reignited — one that could torch everything this family most cherishes.’

Disobedience is due out in the US in April. An August UK release is currently set, but take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Game Night Trailer – Jason Bateman & Rachel McAdams’ murder mystery party gets funny

February 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Synopsis: ‘Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be.

‘Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.

Jason Bateman and Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams team up in New Line Cinema’s action comedy “Game Night.” John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein are directing the film, marking their second film as co-directors, following “Vacation.”’

Win The Action Movie The Shanghai Job, Starring Orlando Bloom, On DVD!

February 4, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

To celebrate the home entertainment release of THE SHANGHAI JOB, available now on digital download and on DVD from 5th February 2018, we have a copy of the DVD up for grabs, courtesy of Signature Entertainment!

“Failure is something I could never live with again – how’s that for assurance?”

Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings superstar Orlando Bloom proves himself a knockout action hero in this dazzling Shanghai-set feature debut from Charles Martin (director of Skins and gripping TV crime drama Marcella), from the team behind Mechanic Resurrection, Welcome To The Punch and Iron Man 3.

Bloom lights up the screen as the charismatic and not-to-be-messed-with Danny Stratton – a cross between Matthew Bourne and The Transporter. Entrusted with taking the ultra-valuable Zodiac Vase – ‘the soul of China’ – from Shanghai to London, Stratton’s hi-tech crew are hijacked on their way to the airport in a nerve-shredding chase sequence – by the same gang who hit Stratton a year before and left his career in tatters. Bloom is brilliant as a man with nothing left to lose, who’ll stop at nothing to even the score – right up to a nail-biting, vase-tossing finale.

Superbly filmed in and around the striking, neon-drenched city of Shanghai, with a pulsing soundtrack (including Katy Perry’s song Roulette) and jaw-dropping action set pieces, the film also features Simon Yam and Lynn Xiong and Xing Yu, stars of the action classic Ip Man. This is a sensational mix of twisty heist thriller with high-kicking actioner, as if Ocean’s 11 was crossed with Taken, and, with the commanding central presence of a blond, buff Bloom, THE SHANGHAI JOB is just the ticket for those in search of stylish, breathless entertainment.

For your chance to win The Shanghai Job on DVD, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on February 18th, 2017, so get answering and good luck. [Read more…]

Call Me By Your Name Gets Top Honours At GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics Dorian Awards

January 31, 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Amongst the myriad film awards given out at this time of year, GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’s Dorian Awards has grown into one of the most distinct, both in terms of the diversity of its recipients and its unique categories (and I’m not just saying that because I’m a member). This year’s award winners have been announced, and it is not too surprising that Call Me By Your Name took both Film Of The Year and LGBTQ Film Of The Year (although it was a strong year for the latter).

The bittersweet story of two young men falling for each other in Italy in the early 1980s also earned Timothée Chalamet an awards for Film Performance of the Year – Actor, as well as picking up the Rising Star award. Meanwhile, Greta Gerwig, writer and helmer of the female-focused coming-of-age drama Lady Bird – which also featured Chalamet – was named Director of the Year.

Jordan Peele earned Screenplay of the Year for the impressive Get Out. He was also crowned Wilde Artist of the Year and ied with Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon for Wilde Wit of the Year. McKinnon also picked up TV Musical Performance of the Year for the second year in a row, for her impersonation of Kellyanne Conway taking her ‘alternative facts’ act to Broadway.

Film icon and feminist activist Meryl Streep was the group’s  choice for Timeless Star, a career achievement honor previously won by such equally beloved stars (and human-rights champions) Jane Fonda, Dame Angela Lansbury and Sir Ian McKellen.

There was also good news for the gay-themed British movie, God’s Own Country, as the powerful love story won GALECA’s Unsung Film of the Year. Awards-season darling The Shape of Water impressed as Visually Striking Film of the Year, and also picked up Best Actress for Sally Hawkins’ superlative performance. And mother!, Darren Aronofsky’s over-the-top psychological chiller starring Jennifer Lawrence, was deemed Campy Flick of the Year.

GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics (formerly known as the Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association), comprises of over 200 gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and ally entertainment journalists in the U.S., Canada and U.K.

Take a look below for the full list of film and TV Dorian winners.  [Read more…]
