Win The Stylish Yves Saint Laurent On DVD!

July 13, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

yves-saint-laurent-dvd-cover-largeDiscover the man behind the style in the must-see fashion film of the year, as YVES SAINT LAURENT arrives on DVD on 14 July 2014 from Entertainment One. For fans of Coco Before Chanel and The September Issue, this impeccably styled official biopic of the late designer Yves Saint Laurent tells the untold story of one of fashion’s greatest legends. We’ve got two copies to give away in this competition.

Directed by Jalil Lespert (Headwinds) and starring French newcomer Pierre Niney (It Boy) in the title role, this visually sumptuous film begins in Paris, 1957. The film charts YSL’s career from his early years at Dior in the late 1950s through to his iconic Ballet Russes collection of 1976. The world of the late 1950s is perfectly captured with elegant Dior designs, stylish models and a jazz score that matched the chic Parisian apartments the fashionistas inhabit.

During one of his highly successful and ground-breaking shows, Yves meets Pierre Bergé (played by Guillaume Gallienne; Marie Antoinette) – who will become the future love of his life and business partner. Three years later, they created the Yves Saint Laurent Company, which became one of the most famous brands in fashion and luxury.

Despite his own doubts and demons, Yves managed to turn the sleepy world of fashion upside down and change the way women dress forever.

If you’d like to try and win one of the two copies of Yves Saint Laurent on DVD that we’ve got to give away, answer the question below and fill in your details, then press submit! The competition closes on July 26th 2014, so get answering and good luck! [Read more…]

Win The Oscar-Nominated The Square On DVD!

July 12, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

THE-SQUARE-DVD-cover-largeNominated for ‘Best Documentary’ at the 2014 Academy Awards®, THE SQUARE will be available on DVD in the UK from 14 JULY 2014 and to celebrate, we have two DVDs to give away!

A film by Jehane Noujaim, THE SQUARE details the incredible sacrifices made by a group of Egyptian activists as they battle regimes and risk their lives during the revolution, giving us a personal view of the conflict from the ground since the country’s overthrow of a 30 year dictatorship in 2011.

The Egyptian Revolution has been an ongoing roller coaster. Through the news, we only get a glimpse of the bloodiest battle, an election, or a million man march. At the beginning of August 2013, we witnessed the second president deposed within the space of three years.

THE SQUARE is a truly immersive experience, transporting the viewer deeply into the intense emotional drama and personal stories behind the news. It is the inspirational story of young people claiming their rights, struggling through multiple forces: from a brutal army dictatorship willing to crush protestors with military tanks, to corrupt a Muslim Brotherhood using mosques to manipulate voters.

Unbroken Trailer – Director Angelina Jolie delves into the life of Louie Zamperini

July 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

unbroken-slideThere’s been a lot of interest in Angelina Jolie’s second directorial outing, Unbroken. Last week came the sad news that the subject of the film, Louie Zamperini, had died. Now we can get a good taste of the film about him, as a full trailer has been released.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award® winner Angelina Jolie directs and produces Unbroken, an epic drama that follows the incredible life of Olympian and war hero Louis “Louie” Zamperini (Jack O’Connell) who, along with two other crewmen, survived in a raft for 47 days after a near-fatal plane crash in WWII—only to be caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

‘Director Jolie began shooting some of the most dramatic and challenging scenes on Wednesday, October 16, on location far out at sea in Moreton Bay, Australia, with Zamperini (O’Connell) and his fellow airmen—Phil (Domhnall Gleeson) and Mac (Finn Wittrock)—having impossibly survived being adrift in the open Pacific for several weeks.

‘Working with cameras on a floating rig in choppy waters and braving the elements, with actors dieting for months to appear as depleted as their characters, Jolie completed a successful first day of a location shoot that promises to be rigorous and uniquely challenging.

‘Adapted from Laura Hillenbrand’s (“Seabiscuit: An American Legend”) enormously popular book, Unbroken brings to the big screen Zamperini’s unbelievable and inspiring true story about the resilient power of the human spirit. Starring alongside O’Connell, Gleeson and Wittrock are Garrett Hedlund and John Magaro as fellow POWs who find an unexpected camaraderie during their internment, Alex Russell as Zamperini’s brother, Pete, and in his English-language feature debut, Japanese actor Miyavi as the brutal camp guard known only to the men as “The Bird.”’

The film will hit cinemas in December. [Read more…]

The Captive Trailer – Ryan Reynolds needs to find his missing daughter

Gary Oldman Is Set To Get Criminal With Kevin Costner

July 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

gary-oldman-robocopIt seems there’s not going to be too much fallout from Gary Oldman defending the homophobic and racist rants of fellow celebs, as thanks to him quickly calling himself an ‘asshole’ for doing so, all seems to be forgiven. It’s certainly not stopped him booking new roles.

A few weeks ago Kevin Costner signed up for the thriller Criminal, and now he’s got some company as Gary Oldman has signed up to co-star, according to THR.

The movie is about a ruthless killer who chooses to take part in a scientific experiment instead of spending the rest of his life in jail. He gets implanted with the brain of a recently-murdered CIA field operative in the hope that he will stop a diabolical plot.

Oldman will play the head of the CIA.

Ariel Vromen (The Iceman) will direct from a script by Douglas Cook and David Weisberg

Jason Bateman & Tina Fey Have A Lot Of Family In A This I Where I Leave You Poster

July 11, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

this-is-where-i-leave-you-posterA few weeks ago we got a trailer for Shawn Levy’s dark comedy This Is Where I Leave You, and now it’s been followed up by a poster showing off the film’s large cast, which includes Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Timothy Olyphant, Dax Shepard and Jane Fonda.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide— driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.

The film will hit cinemas this September.

Laverne Cox Makes History As The First Transgender Emmy Nominee Ever

July 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

laverne-cox-oitnbThe rise of Orange Is The New Black’s Laverne Cox continues with the actress scoring a Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series Emmy nomination, which marks the first time a transgender person has ever been so honoured.

Cox’s nomination is just one of 12 the show received, with the series’ actresses dominating the comedy categories. Alongside Laverne in the Guest Actress list are Natasha Lyonne and Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew is up for Best Supporting Actress and Taylor Schilling will compete for Best Actress In A Comedy Series.

It was a good year for LGBT-themed entertainment, as along with Orange Is The New Black’s noms, The Normal Heart scored major attention for its actors, as Mark Ruffalo is up for Best Actor In A Miniseries Or Movie, while in the Best Supporting Actor category it scored an incredible four of the five noms for Alfred Molina, Jim Parson, Joe Mantello and Matt Bomer. Julia Roberts also got a look in on the Supporting Actress list.

Indeed, looking through the list of Emmy nominees the vast majority of shows included in the list include gay content, from Modern Family and Game Of Thrones, to Masters Of Sex and Downton Abbey.

However, while it’s been an incredible year for Laverne Cox, topped by her Emmy nomination and being featured on the cover of Time, the actress has been talking recently about how her rise to success has come with a dark side – as more public exposure has resulted in increased attacks on her on the internet. While it has often been noted that social media has allowed transgender people to start controlling their own public stories for the first time, the flipside is that it means the entire world can answer back, and many people are both cruel and almost stunningly bigoted.

In an emotional interview with BET, Cox says, “I’ve felt it since the cover of TIME Magazine, like all of a sudden like my Twitter feed and my Instagram there’s all this negativity. I was getting Google Alerts about me [somehow being in league] with Satan.”

You can take a look below. [Read more…]

Crush Of The Day: Zac Efron Rides A Horse Shirtless & Nothing Has Ever Been Sexier

July 10, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zac-efron-horse5I don’t think I’d like to go on holiday and every move I made was snapped by paparazzi, but that’s how Zac Efron’s Italian sejourn has turned out, making waves for his chummy relationship with an Italian businessman, then for smooching Michelle Rodriguez, and now he’s decided to give us all a major treat, with the unfathomably sexy image of him riding a horse shirtless.

(And just as a little PSA, we don’t approve his lack of a hard hat, but he seems to have survived).

And while I say I wouldn’t like to be followed by paparazzi, I can’t help but wonder if Zac is actually slightly courting it, as he started the ride with his shirt on, then ripped it off partway through, even though he seems well aware there are photographers around. Indeed, we’re wondering if the pics and publicity is how Zac is paying for a European holiday freebie.

You can take a look at a couple more pics from the horse ride below, then head to the Daily Mail for even more. [Read more…]
