Thor: The Dark World Gets A Bit Gayer In One Chinese Cinema

If you’ve seen the Russian poster for Thor: The Dark World, you might not have thought any promo for the movie could get any gayer, however one Chinese cinema has managed to top it. While most theatres get their posters from the distributor, this cinema decided to make their own, but made a bit of a faux pas while doing it.

Rather than using official art, they managed to get hold of a piece of fan-made homoerotic Photoshop work, which makes Thor and his younger brother Loki look far closer than they perhaps ought to be (but at least they’re not related by blood).

Even if it is homemade, Loki looks thrilled about it, as if all his evil acts have just been a reaction to not being in Thor’s arms. It’s not know quite how the Shanghai cinema made the mistake, but it was brought to light when an image of it appeared on Reddit.

Arrow’s Stephen Amell Is Happy For Gays To Hit On Him

If you look like Stephen Amell you probably get hit on a lot, and especially with his past of playing gay role, it’s safe to say more than one of the people who’ve hit on him has been a gay man. And he’s just fine with that!

During an appearance on Chelsea Lately, the host tried to set things straight on his behalf, saying “You’ve played a lot of gay guys in your career. So I just want to clarify that you are straight and want people to know not to hit on you if they’re men.”

However Stephen quickly stopped her by saying, “People can hit on me if they want to!”

Let’s hope his wife is as happy about that as he is!

The Truth About Emanuel Trailer – Jessica Biel looks a lot like a dead woman

The Truth About Emanuel debuted at Sundance as Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes, but it’s changed its name ahead of its US release.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Emanuel (Kaya Scodelario), an acerbic but sensitive teen, is on the verge of another birthday—a day she has never cared for since her mother died giving birth to her—when the mysterious Linda (Jessica Biel), a young and hip mother, moves in next door. Intrigued by Linda’s striking resemblance to her late mother, Emanuel begins to babysit for Linda’s newborn daughter. As Emanuel and Linda spend more time together, they develop a bond that becomes deeply entwined in a surprising secret Linda harbors. Francesca Gregorini (Tanner Hall) writes and directs The Truth About Emanuel.’

Dwayne Johnson Attached To Seal Team 666

dwayne-johnsonSince the death of Osama Bin Laden we’ve had several movies about the bravery and exploits of Navy Seals, but now Dwayne Johnson is planning a slightly different type of military movie, with Seal Team 666, according to THR.

The movie will reunite Johnson with the screenwriter of his upcoming Hercules movie, Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Seal Team 666 is based on abook by Weston Ochse, and ‘follows an elite group of Navy Seals who battle demons and assorted threats and discover that there’s a greater supernatural force bent on destroying the world.’

It certainly seems Seals can take on anything! The film is still in relatively early development and no director is involved at this stage.

New Trailer & Character Posters Of Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine & Nicole Kidman In The Railway Man Debut

The Railway Man is hoping to put in a strong awards run this winter. We’ve already seen it and we reckon it has a great shot at bagging a few awards. Now the movie has debuted a quintet of character posters, showing off Colin Firth, Jeremy Irvine, Nicole Kidman, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada in the movie.

It’s certainly a different look for Jeremy Irvine, who looks very different in glasses.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on his best-selling memoir, The Railway Man tells the extraordinary and epic true story of Eric Lomax, a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II.  Decades later, Lomax discovers that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him, and his haunting past. A powerful tale of survival, love and redemption, THE RAILWAY MAN stars Academy Award-winners Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman, with Jeremy Irvine and Stellan Skarsgård.’

It reaches UK cinemas on January 1st 2014.

Aaron Eckhart Plans To Fade Out In A Psychological Thriller

aaron-eckhartAaron Eckhart has signed up for a film that sounds like it could be fascinating, although has a plot which if not handled carefully could result in a bit of a mess – it’ll be fascinating to see which is it. He’s taken the lead in a psychological thriller called Fade Out.

Eckhart will be screenwriter Jim Connelly, who is just getting over a nervous breakdown, being cared for by his glamorous wife Anne in a tropical beachfront villa. He begins to write a screenplay about a jealous husband who murders his unfaithful wife. However, his own paranoia causes fiction and reality to blur. As the events in Jim’s screenplay appear to materialise in real-life, he becomes a suspect in his own wife’s disappearance and must outrun the police as he pieces together the puzzle, which seems to have come from his own mind.

Producer Anthony Bregman commented, “Fade Out is as irresistible as a potent Caribbean cocktail: a twisted mind-bending thriller set in a sun-soaked beach town — from a smart script full of surprising twists, and with true artists in front of and behind the camera.”

Robert Salerno is set to direct from a script by Michael Cristofer. Production is slated to begin next February in Puerto Rico.

Star Wars VII Holding Open Casting In The UK For Two New Young Characters

If Disney was hoping it would remain a secret that an open casting call they’ve issued is actually to find two new lead character for Star Wars: Episode VII, they’re gonna be disappointed. Rumours began to circulate almost as soon as the call went out and it’s now been confirmed that it is indeed for Star Wars.

Open auditions will be held to find to find someone to play a 17-18 year old female character and a 19-23 year old, who will apparently play central roles in the film. While many had assumed the movie would centre of Han Solo and Leia’s kids of Luke’s offspring, although it would appear these aren’t related to main characters in the earlier movies (although it is just about possible they are).

Jon Favreau In Talks To Direct Disney’s Live-Action Jungle Book

jon-favreauDisney is investing heavily in making live-action versions of its classic films, such as next year’s Maleficent (based around Sleeping Beauty), 2015’s Cinderella and they’ve also got The Jungle Book in the works. Now Deadline has revealed that director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is in negotiations to helm The Jungle Book, working from a screenplay by Justin Marks (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo).

Jon Favreau commented, “I can’t say that much, but there is an interesting take that could be very cool, and the hope is to relaunch a family brand with certain mythic elements. It is my first real family film since Elf, and there are action elements and visual effects that I feel like my experience on the Iron Man films are going to be useful.”

Rudyard Kipling novel was published in 1894 and follows a young orphan who is raised in the jungle by a bear, a black panther, and a pack of wolves. It became a classic Disney animated movie in 1967.

Writer/Director James DeMonaco Returns for The Purge 2

the-purge-posterThe Purge only cost $3 million to make, but grossed over $87 million, so it’s not too surprising a sequel has been put in the works. Now Variety reports that James DeMonaco is coming back to write and direct The Purge 2.

New of the sequel first emerged back in June, when Jason Blum signed on to produce for Blumhouse Productions. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastien Lemercier are also returning to co-produce the follow-up.

The Purge starred Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder and Adelaide Kane as a family trying to survive the annual Purge, when in a future America for one night a year all crime is legal for 12 hours. No story details have been released about the sequel.

Monsters University Video Interview – Director Dan Scanlon & producer Kori Rae talk about the movie

Monsters University reached DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on November 11th, as ahead of that, Disney has provided us with a great video interview with director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae, who talk about the work that went into the creation of the film.

As always with Pixar movies, it difficult not to be impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication the makers have for their films and the effort that goes into them.

If you didn’t catch it in cinemas, you’ll have to make sure you watch Monsters University when it arrives on DVD and Blu-ray, as it’s great fun. [Read more…]

Tom Hardy Is Looking Cute On The Arm Of Elton John As They Sell Rocketman Biopic

I hope David Furnish isn’t the jealous type, as Tom Hardy and Elton John have hooked up on the eve of the American Film Market, and we have to say they make a surprisingly cute couple.

When we say ‘hooked up’, we do of course mean that they teamed up to meet potentials buyers of the upcoming Elton biopic, Rocketman, which Tom signed up to star in last week. With AFM kicking off tomorrow, Tom and Elton headed to Santa Monica to help sell the movie.

To be honest, we’re not noticing too much of a resemblance between the two, so it’ll be interesting to see what sort of transformation Tom has to go under to becoming a younger version of Elton. Or perhaps he’s just gonna be hot Elton, as he’s certainly looking good here!

Michael Gracey will direct Rocketman from a screenplay by Lee Hall. It’s previously been reported that the movie will follow Elton John’s journey from 5-year old musical prodigy who by age 11 won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, to a young man who rebelled against his strict upbringing, wore outrageous costumes and became a global icon who teamed with songwriter Bernie Taupin to sell more records that just about any musical artist of his era. It will also feature some fantastical elements and plenty of the singer’s music, in keeping with John’s larger than life personality. It’ll shoot next year.

James Franco Opens Up On Why He Loves Everything Gay

james-francoThere’s little doubt that James Franco is a fan of the gays. He’s played gay character, as while as writing and directing movies on gay themes, such as Sal, Interior Leather Bar and The Broken Tower. His love of all things LGBT has intrigued many, who’ve wondered why a straight man is so intrigued by all things gay.

He’s been talking about it in a new interview with TheDailyBeast, who questioned him on the recurring gay themes and characters that are present in his work. Take a look at an excerpt below:

You do seem to be very fascinated with gay characters and capturing their inner struggle amid an inequitable society, whether it’s in Milk, or your films The Broken Tower and Sal. Where do you think this fascination stems from?
It’s not like it’s my mission to tell the stories of as many gay men as possible, although in some cases, I think it is the point. In Milk, the point is to show one of the great fighters for equal rights for the gay community, so I was happy to do that. With characters like Allen Ginsberg [in Howl], my love for him started with his work when I was a teenager. So his sexuality is secondary to me. It’s an important aspect of who he was and his character, but it wasn’t like, “Yes, I want to play another gay role,” it was more, “Yes, I’d love to play another one of my heroes.”

It’s also a huge step forward to even see humanistic portrayals of gay characters onscreen. Growing up, most of the gay characters I was privy to in films were of the camp variety, or in some bizarre cases, as killers like Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs. With the exception of Philadelphia, the early ‘90s was a very strange time for gay characters in mainstream cinema.
Yeah. Once I choose a subject, if that’s part of who they are and their character, I’m not going to shy away from portraying that. And of course I’m for equal rights and will do whatever I can do to help make that happen. But I feel like because I’ve done more gay characters, gay scenes, or gay projects than most straight actors, people see it as some sort of mission. It’s more of a case-by-case basis, and just trying to capture figures that I love. I guess that a lot of the figures that I love were gay.
