Sam Kinison is a legend among American comedians, famed for his screaming rants and biting humour. Now he’s getting the film treatment, with Deadline reporting that Josh Gad (The Book of Mormon, Love & Other Drugs) is set to play the comic, with Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno) directing.
Rich Wilkes has come up with the script, based on the book Brother Sam by Kinison’s brother, Bill Kinison.
Kinison was born to a preacher father, and brought his father’s booming style to his comedy. In the 80s he became one of the biggest names in the stand-up world, fearlessly taking on subject few others would touch. However in his personal life he battled against depression and alcoholism before dying in 1992 when a drunk driver hit his car.
Producer David Permut comments, “There was nothing conventional about Sam Kinison and neither will be the cinematic interpretation of his life. Larry Charles is the perfect director to bring Rich Wilkes’ incredible script to screen, and Josh Gad’s tremendous ability to morph into a role will bring great depth to Kinison’s larger than life persona.”
Gad said on Twitter, “Couldn’t be more honored & humbled 2 play Sam. His comedy remains some of the most fearless I have ever seen.”
Expect to hear plenty more interesting casting, as the script includes real-life name such as Tammy Faye Bakker, Richard Pryor and Howard Stern, who will undoubtedly attract some good actors.

It’s not too long now until Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. hits TV screens. Now we’ve got the official poster for the series, which shows us the cast and lets us know that those in the US will be able to catch the pilot – directed by Joss Whedon – on September 24th.
Early last week many had expected The Smurfs 2 to take the top spot this weekend at the US box office, but in the end it had to settle for the number three spot. Topping the list was 2 Guns, with the Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington action flick taking a solid but unspectacular $27.3 million. Many have suggested that the fact the marketing concentrated on the stars and said little about the story may have held the film back.
