July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

butch-hogan-ian-somerhalder5-slide
There are plenty of reasons to love Ian Somerhalder, whether it’s kissing guys and dancing in his underwear in The Rules Of Attraction, or being generally sexy in Lost and The Vampire Diaries. Now there’s another very good reason – a new photoshoot with the actor by photographer Brook Hogan.

And as you can see above, one of the images has him wearing very little in the bath!

You can take a look at a few more of the images below and enjoy the shirtless prettiness that is Ian Somerhalder (click on them for larger version). [Read more…]

John Barrowman Marries Scott Gill in California

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-barrowman-scott-gill-marriagePlenty of people have been taking advantage of the re-opening of marriage to same sex couples in the last few days. They’ve now been joined by actors/singer John Barrowman and his long-term partner, Scott Gill.

It’s a bit of a turnaround for Torchwood and Arrow’s Barrowman, who many years ago expressed a dislike of the idea of gay people getting married, suggesting that it was aping an outdated, straight institution. However he’s mellowed over the years, as he and Gill became civil partners on December 27th 2006 in a small ceremony in Cardiff, and now they’ve got officially hitched in California.

Never one to do things quietly, Barrowman and Gill made sure there were pictures, videos and tweets to mark the event, some of which you can see above and below.

John met Scott at a production of Rope at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 1991, when Gill came to see Barrowman in the play. They’ve been together pretty much ever since.

Here’s the vids and some of the tweets John and Scott released:

Oliver Stone’s Untold History Of The United States (DVD)

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Oliver Stone
Director: Oliver Stone
Running Time: 600 mins
Certificate: E
Release Date: July 1st 2013

The fact this is ‘Oliver Stone’s’ Untold History Of The United States should give you a hint that this is not a series to toe the party line. Through its 10 episodes, Stone is determined to be as contrarian as possible, often to great effect but sometimes taking things a little too far. To be fair it’s an inevitable by-product of the project, which sets out to give the other side of US history – or at least what Stone seem to think is the other side, even when he’s saying things that most people now agree is true but which he seems to think is hidden knowledge. Stoker (DVD)

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman, Matthew Goode, Jacki Weaver
Director: Park Chan-Wook
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: 18
Release Date: July 1st 2013

Stoker was a real audience divider on its cinemas release, with some feeling that Oldboy director Park Chan-Wook’s first English-language film was an underwhelming bore, while others went as far as to call it a horror masterpiece. To be honest I can understand where both sides are coming from, as your appreciation of the film completely depends on whether you fall for the film’s endlessly dripping style. If you don’t, it’s difficult not to notice the plot is slightly wanting. [Read more…]

The Boxtrolls Teaser – The Laika animated movie shows its gay-friendly colours

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

I can already hear the anti-gay idiots getting the knickers in a twist about this trailer, which suggests that families aren’t always mother, father and kids in a traditional nuclear family setting. That’s especially true as it comes from Laika, which last year presented the first openly gay animated character in ParaNorman.

The Boxtrolls certainly looks like it’s going to be a fun if unusual movie – although we wouldn’t expect anything else from Laika. It’s all about how families comes in many different forms, straight, gay, extended and, err, troll.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The new 3D animated feature from Laika Studios tells the tale of the Boxtrolls, monsters who live underneath the charming streets of Cheesebridge, who crawl out of the sewers at night to steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend the townspeople have always believed. In truth, the Boxtrolls are a community of lovable oddballs who are raising as one of their own an abandoned and orphaned human boy named Eggs. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by a villainous exterminator who is bent on eradicating them, Eggs must venture aboveground to save them, where he teams with an adventurous young girl to save not only the Boxtrolls but the soul of Cheesebridge.’

We’ve got a bit of a wait to see the movie, as it’s not set for release until September 26th, 2014. [Read more…]

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There are lots of people very excited for The World’s End, which reunites Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost following Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Now a new featurette has emerged showing Edgar Wright at work on the movie, with everyone stepping up to say how awesome he is.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Director Edgar Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunite for a third film following the successes “Shaun of the Dead” (2004) and “Hot Fuzz” (2007). In “The World’s End,” 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by Gary King (Simon Pegg), a 40-year-old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realise the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.’

Final Pacific Rim Trailer – Concentrating on the human angle

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The last couple of trailer for Pacific Rim have concentrated on the monsters, robots and action, and while there’s still a lot of that in this final promo, it also wants to remind us there’s a human side too. There’s also a fun vid featuring Ron Perlman as a monster parts salesman which you can watch below!

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, and starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi and Ron Perlman, comes the sci-fi action adventure, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ PACIFIC RIM.

‘When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that took millions of lives and consumed humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots. But in the face of the relentless Kaiju, even the Jaegers prove defenseless.

‘On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes – a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.’

It’s out in cinemas on July 12th.

New Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 Trailer – Meet the Foodimals

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was a bigger hit than many expected –  largely because it was a better movie than it had any right to be – so it’s little surprise a sequel is coming. Now the new trailer for the film has arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where Sony Pictures Animation’s hit comedy left off. Inventor Flint Lockwood’s genius is finally being recognized as he’s invited by his idol Chester V to join The Live Corp Company, where the best and brightest inventors in the world create technologies for the betterment of mankind. Chester’s right-hand-gal – and one of his greatest inventions – is Barb (a highly evolved orangutan with a human brain, who is also devious, manipulative and likes to wear lipstick. It’s always been Flint’s dream to be recognized as a great inventor, but everything changes when he discovers that his most infamous machine (which turns water into food) is still operating and is now creating food-animal hybrids – “foodimals!” With the fate of humanity in his hands, Chester sends Flint and his friends on a dangerously delicious mission, battling hungry tacodiles, shrimpanzees, apple pie-thons, double bacon cheespiders and other food creatures to save the world again!’

The movie is due out in the UK on October 25th, with a late September debut for the US.

Delivery Man Trailer – Vince Vaughn has 533 kids!

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

If you donate sperm, who knows how many kids you might have running around! For Vince Vaughn it’s 533 whippersnappers he fathered via a fertility clinic (or at least his character in Delivery Man did, I’m sure he doesn’t have that many in real life). Now the first proper trailer for the comedy has arrived.

The movie is Ken Scott’s English-language remake of his own 2011 Canadian comedy Starbuck. Vaughn is David Wozniak, who fathered 533 kids a couple of decades ago, and now 142 of those kids are suing to learn his identity.

Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders also star. The film is due in cinemas this autumn.

New Elysium Trailer – Matt Damon is really pissed off with Jodie Foster

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Along with Wolverine and Pacific Rim, Elysium is one of the few big summer movies yet to hit cinemas, but it’s not too long now until it hits US cinemas on August 9th and the UK on August 26th. Now a fresh trailer had dropped, for you to get another taste of the film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium.

‘That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.’

Dylan O’Brien And More In First Images From The Maze Runner

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maze-runner-pic1
Things are getting a bit literal in these first images from The Maze Runner, as they mainly seem designed to show that it’s set in a maze and involves some running. However they do give us an idea of young adult novel adaptation, which stars Dylan O’Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Will Poulter, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Patricia Clarkson.

Teen Wolf’s O’Brien plays Thomas, who wakes up in a strange place known as The Glade, with no recollection of how he got there. He must work together with a group of teenagers, who also don’t remember how they ended up in there, to figure a way out – every morning a door opens and they attempt to work out the riddle of the maze that lies beyond. Things get even more complex when the first girl (Kaye Scodelario) turns up in The Glade, with a message that could change everything.

A February 14th, 2014 release date has already set. (Images via MTV)

Woody Allen Adds Eileen Atkins & Marcia Gay Harden To New Movie

July 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

eileen-atkins1Woody Allen is just finishing off Blue Jasmine, but he’s already busy putting together his next movie, which, as is Woody’s way, hasn’t had a title released yet. Colin Firth and Emma Stone are set to star, and now they’ve been joined by some great talents, as TheWrap reports that Eileen Atkins, Marcia Gay Harden, Jacki Weaver, Hamish Linklater and Simon McBurney will appear.

Erica Leerhsen and Jeremy Shamos are also set to star in the film, although as always, Allen is keeping the plot details to himself. The plan though is to start shooting fairly soon for release next year.

Blue Jasmine meanwhile, which stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Louis C.K., Michael Stuhlbarg, Peter Sarsgaard, Bobby Cannavale, Alden Ehrenreich, and Sally Hawkins, is set for release in the US on July 26th, with a September 20th UK date planned.
