The Nut Job Teaser – Liam Neeson gets animated (and turns animal)

More and more companies are trying to get a slice of the booming market for animation, and they’ve been joined by the independently made The Nut Job, which is actually a Canadian and South Korean co-production.

It’s got a big name cast though, with Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser, Stephen Lang, Maya Rudolph, and Jeff Dunham.

The 3D film is set in ‘in fictional Oakton and follows the travails of Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous squirrel, and his rat friend Buddy, who plan a nut store heist of outrageous proportions and unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a much more complicated and hilarious adventure.’

It’s out in the US in mid-January, but no UK release is currently set. [Read more…]

Common Plans To Run All Night Alongside Liam Neeson & Joel Kinnaman

common-rapper Liam Neeson, Joel Kinnaman and Ed Harris are already attached to join in Run All Night and now they’ve got some company as rapper and actor Common is in negotiations to star in the Warner Bros. action-thriller, according to THR.

The movie is about an aging assassin who takes on his former mafia boss (Ed Harris) to protect his estranged son (Joel Kinnaman), a limo driver who witnessed a murder. Common is set to be the mob leader’s most trusted hitman, an emotionless killer who lets nothing stand in his way of completing the task at hand.

Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown, Non-Stop – both of which also starred Neeson) is directing from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace). It isn’t known when production may begin.

Liam Neeson Back For Taken 3 & Being Paid $20 Million For It

20th Century Fox and EuropaCorp are obviously very keen to make Taken 3, as they’re in the process of closing a massive deal that will give Liam Neeson $20 million to return as Bryan Mills, according to Deadline.

The first murmurings that Taken 3 was in the works came last October when it was revealed that Taken and Taken 2 writers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen were working on the script. However at that time Neeson wasn’t signed up, and it’s taken a lot of money to get him.

The first Taken earned over $225 million worldwide from just a $25 million budget and followed Liam Neeson’s Bryan Mills as he frantically tries to get his kidnapped daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) back from her captors. While last year’s sequel, Taken 2, was critically trashed, it nevertheless grossed $376 million worldwide, making a third movie very much worth making.

No director has been attached to Taken 3 yet, but it is believed that Taken 2 filmmaker Olivier Megaton may return to the helm. The studio is eyeing to hoping to shoot in February 2014 and are also keen to get Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen to come back too.

Neil Patrick Harris On For Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West

neil-patrick-harris Universal Pictures has officially announced the cast for Seth MacFarlane’s Western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West. They’ve let us know that Neil Patrick Harris has joined MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Silverman and Giovanni Ribisi in the film. The studio has also confirmed a release date of May 30th, 2014.

After a cowardly sheep farmer (MacFarlane) backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend (Seyfriend) leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman (Theron) rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw (Ribisi), arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

Ribisi and Silverman play MacFarlane’s best friend and a prostitute, respectively, who are having romantic problems. It’s not clear who Harris will be.

Shooting will start this summer.

Liam Neeson & Woody Harrelson May Take On Highwaymen

Bonnie & Clyde are criminal legends, with their deaths becoming iconic thanks to the shootout at the end of Arthur Penn’s classic 1967 film. But what about the men in charge of catching them, who were on the other end of the guns when Barrow and Parker died?

Well now Deadline reports that Liam Neeson and Woody Harrelson are being courted to star in Highwaymen, about the two Texas Rangers who managed to hunt down and kill Bonnie and Clyde during their Depression Era crime spree. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is attached to direct.

John Fusco (Hidalgo, The Forbidden Kingdom) wrote the script, with Media Rights Capital and Universal Pictures teaming up to fund the movie (as they did with Ted).

It could certainly be an interesting tale to tell, especially as Clyde Barrow was a nasty piece of work who was nothing like Warren Beatty’s romanticised portrayal. Maybe this film will paint a truer picture of exactly why the authorities wanted him out of the picture.

Sarah Silverman Joins Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways to Die in the West

sarah-silverman Seth MacFarlane is busy putting together the cast of his comedy western with A Million Ways to Die in the West, with MacFarlane set to star alongside Amanda Seyfried, Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, and Giovanni Ribisi. Now THR reports that Sarah Silverman is in negotiations to play a prostitute in the movie.

The film is about a timid farmer (Seth MacFarlane) whose girlfriend (Amanda Seyfried) leaves him for another man after he runs away from a gunfight. In the hope of winning her back, he enlists the help of the wife of a notorious outlaw’s wife (Charlize Theron), to teach him to become a better gunman. However, his skills are severely tested when the woman’s angry husband (Liam Neeson) comes riding into town.

Sarah Silverman will be involved in a subplot as the town’s prostitute, who ironically won’t have sex with her fiancée (Giovanni Ribisi), because she wants to wait until they are married.

Seth MacFarlane is set to direct from a screenplay he wrote alongside Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Shooting will start later this spring.

Joel Kinnaman Set To Run All Night Alongside Liam Neeson

joel-kinnaman Joel Kinnaman’s stars should rise significantly this summer when The Killing actor takes on the title role in the remake of Robocop. Now he’s planning a follow-up, with THR reporting that he’s in final talks to star in the Warner Bros. thriller Run All Night, starring opposite Liam Neeson.

The movie is about a hitman (Neeson) who must take out his former mafia boss in order to protect his family. Kinnaman is up to play the assassin’s estranged son, a chauffeur who witnesses a murder, which puts his life in danger and results in Neeson needing to take on his old boss.

Jaume Collet-Serra is set to direct from a screenplay by Brad Ingelsby (Out of the Furnace).

Liam Neeson & Giovanni Ribisi Find A Million Ways To Die For Seth MacFarlane

After the success of Ted, it’s little suprise that actors are queueing up for Seth MacFarlane’s follow-up, A Million Ways To Die. Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, and MacFarlane himself are already set to star, and now THR reports that Liam Neeson has signed up, with Deadline adding that Ted star Giovanni Ribisi will also be part of the film.

A Million Ways To Die In The West is a comedy western about a mild-mannered farmer called Albert (MacFarlane) who chickens out when a gunfight erupts on his property. Annoyed at his singular lack of spine, his girlfriend (Seyfried) ditches him.

In the hope of winning her back, he makes a deal with the wife (Theron) of a notorious outlaw (Neeson), to teach him how to handle a gun and be a bit more of a badass. However, as he starts getting closer to the sharp-shooting woman, trouble erupts when her vicious husband reappears. Ribisi will play Albert’s friend Edward, described as “a simple shoe repairman who bears up with a girlfriend who won’t have sex with him, but as a working prostitute she’s doing it with everybody else.” He’s involved in a side plot where Albert tries to get Edward into the dating scene.

MacFarlane co-wrote the script with Ted cohorts Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, with the movie being described as being similar in tone to Blazing Saddles. The plan is to start shooting in May.

Ruth Wilson Takes A Walk Among the Tombstones

ruth-wilson Just yesterday it was revealed that Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens had signed on to star opposite Liam Neeson in A Walk Among the Tombstones. Now the movie has a female lead, according to Variety, as Luther star Ruth Wilson has also joined the movie.

Neeson is set to play a former NYPD cop who now runs his own private investigation firm, which operates just outside the law in order to get results for his clients. He is hired by a drug dealer to find his kidnapped wife, which leads him to a dangerous crime ring that has committed multiple kidnappings – all of which have ended up with the death of the victim.

It isn’t known exactly who Wilson will play, although it could well be the kidnapping victim.

With two Brits and an Irishman cast, is this US set tale actually going to have any Americans in it?

Downton’s Dan Stevens Taking A Walk Among The Tombstones With Liam Neeson

Dan-Stevens Those who’ve swooned over the handsome Dan Stevens in Downton Abbey will be sad to hear he’s leaving the show, but it won’t be the last they see of him, as he’s currently shooting the Julian Assange drama The Fifth Estate (alongside Benedict Cumberbatch), and now Variety reports that he’s signed on for A Walk Among The Tombstone.

Stevens will star alongside Liam Neeson in the movie, who’ll play an ex-New York cop hired to find a drug dealer’s kidnapped wife. Inevitably he discovers the story goes a lot deeper that he initially thought. This isn’t the first time the bad guys have kidnapped somebody, but all their previous victims have ended up dead.

Unfortunately there’s no news at the moment on who Stevens will play, and whether he might be dropping the clean cut image so he can get involved in drugs. Scott Frank is set to direct and write the screenplay, based on Lawrence Block’s novel.
