Jai Courtney, Boyd Holbrook, Wilson Bethel & More Testing For Terminator: Genesis

Emilia Clarke recently signed up to play Sarah Connor in the upcoming Teminator: Genesis, and now the casting people have turned their attention to the person who’ll be Kyle Reece – John Connor’s father, as played by Michael Biehn in the first film and Anton Yelchin in Terminator Salvation.

According to Variety, five actors are currently testing for the part – Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard), Sam Reid (The Railway Man), Boyd Holbrook (Out of the Furnace), Wilson Bethel (Hart of Dixie), and relative newcomer Tom Cocquerel.

Paramount also apparently wanted Nicholas Hoult and Garrett Hedlund to audition, but they weren’t interested for one reason or another.

Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor will direct. No plot details have officially been revealed, but it seems clear there will be an element of time travel involved. It’s believed it will be set before the first movie, as well as taking us into the future during the war between mankind and Skynet. It would suggest some rewriting of the Terminator chronology will take place, but we’ll have to see.

Expect to hear who has the role soon.

Die Hard 5’s Jai Courtney To Play Eric In Divergent

Summit Entertainment is betting big on Divergent to be their new Twilight, and they’re now busy filling out the cast for the film. Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Zoë Kravitz, and Ansel Elgort are already set for the movie, and they’ve now been joined by Die Hard 5’s Jai Courtney, according to Deadline.

The film is based on Veronica Roth novel, which depicts a futuristic America that is divided into five factions: selflessness (Abnegation), peacefulness (Amity), honesty (Candor), bravery (Dauntless), and intelligence (Erudite). At the age of 16, each citizen must choose which trait they want to devote the rest of their lives to.

Courtney is set to play the leader of the Dauntless tribe, who’s called Eric. He serves as one of the primary antagonists for Shailene Woodley’s Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior, who struggles with the Dauntless initiation when she makes a powerful discovery about her hidden strength, and uncovers a conspiracy to destroy all people like her. In the book Eric is described as having multiple facial piercings, although it’s not known if this will follow through into the movie.

Neil Burger is directing from an adapted screenplay by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman).

Crush Of The Day: Live Free Or Die Hard’s Jai Courtney

February 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jai-Courtney2-slide

In the next few days, Jai Courtney’s star is likely to go stratospheric, thanks to the fact he’s playing Bruce Willis’ son in Live Free Or Die Hard (out February 14th). However many will already know him as Varro in Spartacus: Blood & Sand, and some will have caught him recently in the Tom Cruise movie, Jack Reacher.

It’s certainly been a quick rise to international stardom for the 26-year-old, whose credits previous to Spartacus were all in TV shows and films that weren’t seen much outside his native Australia.

He’s a hottie who’s got the look of an action star, both with his handsome face and plentiful muscles. I also have to say I prefer it when he’s got a bit of fur on his chest than when he went for a full-on shaving regimen for Spartacus.

Take a look at the pictures of him below, including a few where he’s engaged in a little nudity. Click on the images to enlarge, and watch the trailer for Live Free Or Die Hard at the bottom. [Read more…]

New A Good Day To Die Hard Trailer – Bruce Willis gets explosive in Russia

January 4, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Presumably there’s not enough of the US left that John McLane hasn’t had a hand in destroying, and so this time he’s going international, heading to Russia to team up with his son (Jai Courtney) for a new, and as this trailer show, suitably explosive adventure.

What John doesn’t know when he first gets to Russia is that his wayward son, Jack, is actually a highly trained CIA operative out to stop a nuclear weapons heist. Jack likes likes his modern, tech based techniques while John is old-school – and the combination may be the only way to stop the bad guys.

The film’s due out February 14th, 2013, so it’ll be a Valentine’s movie for the guys.

Jai Courtney Will Commit A Felony Opposite Joel Edgerton

October 16, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Aussie actor Jai Courtney’s career should get a big boost in the next few months when he plays a villain opposite Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher and John McLane’s estranged son in A Good Day To Die Hard. Now he’s got a new job, as Deadline reports he’ll be starring in felony, opposite Joel Edgerton.

Driving home after a celebration drink with his team after the long waited bust of a major gang, a decorated police officer (Edgerton) runs a young cyclist off the road. As he gives CPR to the child, fellow officers arrive to take his statement. In a split second decision he tells them a lie about the accident which will change all their lives in this edge of your seat thriller.

Tom Wilkinson is already on board to play Detective Carl Summer, the lead police investigator who arrives on the scene following the accident. Now he’ll be joined by Courtney, who’ll play another cop who suspects that Edgerton has been lying.

Matthew Seville is getting set to direct the film this month in Sydney, based on Edgerton’s script.

New Pic From A Good Day To Die Hard Hits

October 4, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Die Hard is becoming a bit more of a family affair with the fifth installment, A Good Day To Die Hard. While we’ve seen John McLane’s ex-wife and kids before, they’ve never been fully involved in fighting the bad guys, but now his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney) is taking on his father’s mantle.

The film sees father and son having to team up in Moscow to stop a nefarious Russian leader. Along with the image, EW has come comments from Jai Courtney about the movie. Talking about the father/son dynamic, he says, “The relationship isn’t always functional. These are two guys who have been estranged for some time. John likes to wing it, see what happens. Jack’s more of a strategist.”

While talking about the Moscow setting, he says, “That’s the thing about the Die Hard franchise, John’s always a fish out of water. What could be further out of water for him than Russia?”

The film will be out February 13th 2013.

Jai Courtney Playing John McLane’s Son In A Good Day To Die Hard

February 23, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

There’s been a fair amount of speculation about who would play John McLane’s son in A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifith installment of the Die Hard series. The likes of Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, Ben Foster, Paul Dano, and Milo Ventimiglia are all said to have tested for the part, but now the role has gone to somebody would wasn’t even mentioned in previous rumours about the role, Spartacus: Blood & Sand actor Jai Courtney.

20th Century Fox even released a shot of Courtney during a screen test with Bruce Willis, which you can see above.

A Good Day to Die Hard puts McClane on an international stage – truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow – and introduces his estranged son Jack, who may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive – and the world safe for democracy. The film begins production this April, for a February 14, 2013 release.

Last year, Courtney landed a starring role opposite Tom Cruise in One Shot, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, so the Aussie actor’s star is definitely on the rise.

Jake Abel Joins The Host

November 9, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

Jake Abel is probably feeling slightly relieved that people always just look at him and see a villain, as having played bad guys in both Percy Jackson and I Am Number Four, he’s just landed a slightly different type of role in The Host, the planned adaptation of Twilight author Stephenie Meyer’s novel.

Abel is is talks to play Ian, according to Deadline, one of the last remaining humans whose brain hasn’t been co-opted by the invasive alien ‘souls’, that are taking people over one by one. Saoirse Ronan is set to play the central character, Melanie Stryder, who has a soul named Wanderer implanted in her mind. However while normally Melanie’s personality would be expected to fade into the background, her emotions and memories overwhelm the invader and makes it change its mind about its races master plan.

Director Andrew Niccol is now down to the last few finalists for the other main male role of Luke, with Liam Hemsworth, Max Irons, Kit Harington and Jai Courtney on the shortlist. Expect to hear who got the part soon.
