Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Channing Tatum Eyed For Guys and Dolls Remake

I can imagine there’ll be a lot of people out there intrigued by the idea of a musical starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum. It could happen, as Deadline reports that they are being eyed to star in a remake of the 1955 musical classic, Guys and Dolls.

20th Century Fox recently finalised a deal for the movie rights to the musical and are now trying to put the right elements together. No official offers have been made to the actors yet, but both parties are said to be interested in signing on.

The 1955 version starred Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. It’s about Nathan Detroit (Frank Sinatra), a gambler trying to set up his own craps game, who bets his friend Sky Masterson (Frank Sinatra) that he can convince the wholesome missionary Sarah Brown (Jean Simmons) to come to Havana, Cuba with him. The musical is based on the short stories of Damon Runyon.

There is no writer or director attached to the remake at this time. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum showed off their singing and dancing skills at the 85th Annual Academy Awards back in February, so they seem like good choices.

Looper (Blu-ray)

January 27, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Jeff Daniels, Paul Dano
Director: Rian Johnson
Running Time: 119 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: January 28th 2013

Time travel is a tough nut to crack. It’s an idea that’s full of possibilities but it also has major pitfalls, not least of which are the endless paradoxes and logic knots that time travel films can tie themselves up in. Although Looper doesn’t completely resolve these problems, its gets closer than any film since Twelve Monkeys and presents a reality that’s actually pretty close to how some quantum physicists think time travel could actually work.

Indeed as Twelve Monkeys and Looper both feature Bruce Willis, perhaps all prospective time travel movies need to be given the Brucey seal of approval before they go into production. [Read more…]

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Joins Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, While He Passes On Guardians Of The Galaxy

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a busy man, but thanks to the way Robert Rodriguez & Frank Miller can shoot Sin City – where not all the actors have to be on set at the same time – he’s managed to find time to slot in a role as one of the lead characters in the highly anticipated Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Gordon-Levitt will play Johnny, a cocky gambler who disguises a darker mission to destroy his most foul enemy at his best game. Here’s what co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller had to say, “Johnny is a new character in the Sin City world and we are excited for what Joseph will bring to the role.”

Gordon-Levitt commented, “I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality. Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr. Rodriguez.”

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. Returning cast members include Mickey Rourke as Marv, Jessica Alba as Nancy, Rosario Dawson as Gail, and Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy with new cast members Dennis Haysbert as Manute, and Jamie Chung as Miho. It’s believed the role of Johnny was originally offered to Johnny Depp, who was unable to be part of the film.

This isn’t the only JGL news that’s dropped, as Deadline reports that while reports emerged last week that early talks had begun between the actor and Marvel about the possibility of him taking the lead role of Peter Gunn in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Gordon-Levitt has now passed on the role (which would make it easier for him to play Batman in Justice League is DC decides to go in that direction).

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Also Up For Guardians of the Galaxy Lead

January 3, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight RisesJust before Christmas we reported that Jim Sturgess and Chuck star Zachary Levi were the frontrunners for the the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and now there’s another name to add to the list, according to Deadline, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also in the mix for the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord.

It may seem a bit soon for Gordon-Levitt to jump from DC’s The Dark Knight Rises to a Marvel property, but Joseph is a comic book lover, and while some have suggested he could follow up his Dark Knight role to become Batman in Justice League, there’s been little indication either he or DC is actually planning to do that.

Peter Quill is a NASA astronaut who learns that his true father is actually an alien, which leads him on a journey into outer space. With a sentient space ship, he becomes the Star-Lord, an intergalactic cop who serves as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay, a release date of August 1st, 2014 is already set.

The Dark Knight Rises (Blu-ray)

November 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy
Director: Christopher Nolan
Running Time: 164 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: December 3rd 2012

The Dark Knight Rises had a lot to live up to after the superb second instalment in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. While it may not be quite as good as The Dark Knight, the film is a fitting conclusion to the series, tying up the thematic ends and ramping up the spectacle and excitement.

It’s seven years after the events of The Dark Knight and Bruce Wayne is living as a virtual recluse in his mansion. Batman is no longer needed and Wayne is a physical wreck. However when a mysterious figure known as Bane (Tom Hardy) arrives in Gotham with plans aimed at destroying Bruce and potentially destroying the city, there’s no choice but to bring the Bat out of retirement. Will Joseph Gordon-Levitt Play Batman In Justice League?

November 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few years ago, George Miller was planning a Justice League movie that would feature Batman and Superman, but would feature completely different actors in those roles than in the stand-alone films, with a separate continuity. When Warner Bros announced a few months back they were resurrecting the idea of a Justice League film, it wasn’t clear if this would tie into Man Of Steel and Nolan’s Batman film or not.

Now it seems they might, as talking to the New York Post, Man Of Steel director Zack Snyder says about Justice League, “They trust me to keep them on course” for that film. That may be talking in the vaguest of terms, but it’s a long way from a few months ago, when he said, “What they’ll do with Justice League will be its own thing with its own Batman and own Superman.”

Although he doesn’t confirm anything, it does suggest Cavill may now be playing Superman in both Man Of Steel and Justice League – something Warner could easily do as they signed Cavill to a multi-film deal when he agreed to the role.

But what about Batman? Well, the idea of Christian Bale coming back is very, very unlikely, but what about Joseph Gordon Levitt, who after Dark Knight Rises could easily don the cowl? According to Hitfix, that’s the current thinking at Warner Bros. Hitfix says JGL is already set for Justice League (although it may not be as definite as they suggest), and could even pop up in Man Of Steel, with Warner/DC essentially starting to build their own Marvel style cross-over universe. We’ll have to wait and see though.

The Avengers has certainly shaken up the superhero world, with everyone else now racing to build their own connected universe. Even Fox is trying to find continuity by hiring Mark Millar to oversee the properties it owns, such as X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Justice League is currently planned for release in 2015.

Crush Of The Day: Joseph Gordon Levitt

September 12, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Who ever would have thought the kid from Third Rock From The Sun would become a big star? However he took the smart route, spending the time after the sitcom building a great reputation in smaller films, putting in strong performances in the likes of Brick and Stop-Loss, as well as the gay-themed Latter Days and Mysterious Skin.

In the last couple of years however he’s really broken through into the mainstream thanks to the surprise success of (500) Days Of Summer, followed by Inception, 50/50 and The Dark Knight Rises (which raised the possibility of a JGL centred spin-off). This month he’s got two movies in UK cinemas, both of which have received pretty good reviews. This Friday sees the release of the bike-messenger thriller Premium Rush, while September 28th brings us Looper, where Joseph plays a younger version of Bruce Willis, complete with prosthetics to make him look more the part.

It’s the perfect time then for some pretty pics of the actor. Click below for larger versions. [Read more…]

Looper Trailer – Loads more plot in the UK promo for the Gordon-Levitt & Willis flick

June 28, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While we had a trailer for Looper a few weeks ago, it was a bit light on plot. However that’s been remedied with the new UK promo, which gives a much better sense of Rian Johnson’s time travel move. Joe (Jospeh Gordon Levitt) works as a looper, a futuristic assassin who receives and eliminates targets sent back in time by a criminal organisation. The only rule is that you do not let your target escape – even if that target is you. Looper stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Emily Blunt and is released on September 28.
