The Wicked Movie Is Still Moving Forward!

April 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wicked-musical-slideSeveral years ago now in the wake of the success of Mamma Mia, Universal put a movie version of the hit musical Wicked into development. However Disney moving forward on Oz The Great And Powerful seemed to take the wind out of the project’s sails.

It’s not completely dead though, as the show’s composer Stephen Schwartz has told Vulture that, “We’re starting to do some work on it. We’ve actually started gearing up on it a little bit. I don’t know exactly how many years away it is.”

When asks if there will be alterations for the big screen, he adds, “What are we going to change? What are we going to keep? How do you use a whole new language and medium to tell the story? [We can] really look at it again and say, ‘Oh, we can do this, and we’ve always wanted to do that and we couldn’t onstage, but we can in a movie.’ We’re actually having a blast.”

In the early days of development, the likes of J.J. Abrams, James Mangold, Rob Marshall and Glee creator Ryan Murphy were all said to be in contention to direct, but it’s not known if anyone is at the helm at the moment.

Let’s hope it doesn’t take them too much longer as we’d love to see Ephalba defying gravity in the cinema.

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The movie is based on Dennis Lehane;s short story about a Boston bartender (Hardy) who desperately attempting to free himself from his past criminal life. Sex Tape Red Band Trailer – Cameron Diaz & Jason Segel don’t want their naughtiness escaping

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Later this year we’re all going to get to see Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel’s Sex Tape, but first we can get a taster with the first trailer.

Here’s the movie’s synopsis (and as you’ve already guessed, it’s not just a real sex tape featuring the two stars): ‘When Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) first got together, their romantic connection was intense – but ten years and two kids later, the flame of their love needs a spark. To kick things up a notch, they decide – why not? – to make a video of themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session.

‘It seems like a great idea – until they discover that their most private video is no longer private. With their reputations on the line, they know they’re just one click away from being laid bare to the world… but as their race to reclaim their video leads to a night they’ll never forget, they’ll find that their video will expose even more than they bargained for.’

Sex Tape is going to be in cinemas September 5th. [Read more…]

Ben Stiller In Talks To Play Gay Choreographer In Alan Ball’s I Am Chippendales

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ben-StillerSince the success of Magic Mike, the film world has known there’s a market out there for movies about male strippers. Now Ben Stiller may be starring in one, as Variety reports that he is circling I Am Chippendales, with American Beauty and True Blood’s Alan Ball set to write and direct.

The movie is based on the true story of how Paul Snider, Somen “Steve” Banerjee and lawyer Bruce Nahin founded the Chippendales nightclub. However after initial massive success, things rather went to Banerjee’s head as he helped orchestrate a plot to murder of three former Chippendales dancers he thought were now in competition with him, as well as attempting to have Chippendales co-founder, Bruce Nahin, killed.

He pleaded guilty to attempted arson, racketeering and murder for hire charges.

If a deal is finalized, Ben Stiller will play choreographer Nick DeNoia, who helped conceive the idea of the Chippendales, helping turn the male dance club into an international sensation. However DeNoia ended up being one of the people Banerjee wanted dead.

Banerjee was known for being incredibly flamboyant and sharp, not putting up with any dancer who didn’t meet his exacting dimensions. It’s also believed he slept with more than a few, although due to the fact this was the 80s and the Chippendales were so determined they were for female rather than gay eyes, there was also a lot of homophobia around. It’s now known exactly how the film will deal with all this, but as Alan Ball is gay himself and has dealy with LGBT themes throughout his career, it probably won’t shy away from it.

Ball is directing from his own screenplay, which is adapted from Rodney Sheldon’s book. It’s not known when it will shoot.

The Pink Panther Cat Is Getting His Own CG/Live-Action Movie

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

pink-panther-cat-slideThe Pink Panther has already had a 21st Century reboot with Steve Martin as the hapless Inspector Clouseau, who was first played by Peter Sellers in the 1963. However there’s also the ‘real’ Pink Panther – the animated cat who started off in the credits of the Sellers movies, before getting his own cartoon.

Now MGM, which owns the character, has revealed it’s developing a feasture-length CG/live-action feature film based on the animated Pink Panther. The legendary Julie Andrews will act as a producer, which may sound odd until you remember that she was the wife of the late Blake Edwards, who co-created and directed the original Pink Panther movies.

50 years on from his creation, the new movie is described as a caper that ‘will harken back to the tone shared by the original Friz Freleng and David H. DePatie cartoons as well as that of Blake Edwards’ films’.

Julie Andrews commented, “I am delighted that the legacy of Blake’s iconic Pink Panther franchise will continue to grow in its new hybrid form. It is exciting that the quintessential ‘next step’ for our beloved Panther will be enjoyed by a 4th generation of audiences. I feel that Blake is encouraging us on.”

David Silverman, producer of The Simpsons and the director of The Simpsons Movie, is currently set to helm.

Byung-hun Lee & More Up For Terminator: Genesis

April 1, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

byung-hun-leeWith Terminator: Genesis set to start shooting pretty soon, director Alan Taylor is busy fitting the pieces of the cast together. Now he’s adding three more to the roster, with THR reporting that Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe Retaliation), Michael Gladis (Mad Men) and Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) signing up.

Nothing has been revealed about who the actors will play, other than that Byung-hun Lee’s character, “promises to be a doozy.”

They join a cast that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, J.K. Simmons as a detective who has been obsessed with the Terminator/Sarah Connor case since 1984 and Dayo Okeniyi, who signed on last week to play the son of Cyberdyne engineer, Miles Dyson.

The movie is said to be both the beginning of a standalone trilogy and the continuation of the original franchise. Not surprisingly, Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed that his Terminator character will have aged, although he didn’t say exactly how. It’s also known that there’ll be plenty of time travel – hence why the actor playing Sarah Connor is significantly younger than the person who will be her son.

Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) is directing from a script by Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) and Laeta Kalogridis (White House Down).

Miranda Hart Joins Melissa McCarthy & Jason Statham In Paul Feig’s Spy Comedy

March 31, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miranda-hartIf you told most people that comedienne Miranda Hart and Jason Statham were going to make a movie together, they’d probably laugh at you.

However it’s going to happen, according to Deadline, as Hart has joined the cast of Paul Feig’s currently untitled Spy comedy (which was previously known as Susan Cooper and may end up simply as ‘Spy’), alongside Statham and Melissa McCarthy.

Not too much info has been released about the comedy, other than that it’s about an unlikely female secret agent, played by McCarthy. Statham is a spy on the same side as the title character. There’s not a huge amount more info than that, although it’s previously been said that the film was inspired by the grittiness of Casino Royale, even if it gives a more comedic spin to things.

The movie is just starting to shoot, with Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Bobby Canavale also set to star. With Feig having been behind Bridesmaids and The Heat, it should be one to watch.

Feig comments on the new casting,”I’ve been a fan of Miranda’s for years and am so excited to bring her to the big screen. I’m also hoping I’ll finally get back that lawnmower I loaned her last summer.”

Hart meanwhile says, ”I am beyond excited to work with Paul who I am a huge, huge fan of. And it will be nothing less than a hoot to work with Melissa McCarthy. By the end of the film I plan to have married Jude Law and have Melissa as our adopted daughter.”
