Wolverine 3 Coming After X-Men: Apocalypse, But Will Hugh Jackman Return?

March 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Wolverine-preview-pic6Fox sure loves the X-Men. They’ve spent more on the upcoming Days Of Future Past than on any film in the studio’s history other than Avatar, and even though that film hasn’t been release yet, they’re already deep in development on X-Men: Apocalypse.

And it seems that’s not the end of the plans, as The Wolverine director James Mangold has tweeted that after that movie comes Apocalypse comes Wolverine 3.

He says, ‘@R__E__D_R__U__M @20centuryfox @ShuDonner We are figuring it all out. At the moment, I’m shooting The next #Wolverine after #XmenApocalypse.— Mangold (@mang0ld)’

That leaves some big questions though, the biggest of which being whether Hugh Jackman will star in it. He’s suggested that after Days Of Future Past he wants to take a break from the character. He’s been playing Wolverine now for 14 years in seven different movies, which is longer than anyone has stuck with a single superhero character. He may well be enticed back, but it’s likely Fox will move forward with the character whether Jackman is on board on not.

As Mangold point out on Twitter, ‘With cost of 117M and WW gross of 415M (#2 of all X’s), of course there’ll be another Wolverine solo. Manufactured internet drama is boring!’

However with two other mutant movies to hit cinemas before Wolverine 3, don’t expect it until 2017 at the earliest.

Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent Gets Her Wings In A New Banner & Teaser

March 17, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

maleficent-wings-banner
Angelina Jolie can do many things, but up until now she couldn’t fly. Maleficent is going to change all that, as shown by the new banner above, which unfurls the title characters wings, while the teaser below allows her to take flight.

Let’s just hope the movie itself is a cool as all the imagery.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.’

It’s due in cinemas this May.

Dwayne Johnson Gets Harnessed For First Look At Earthquake Disaster Flick San Andreas

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

san-andreas-pic1
Ever since 3D started to take off, various people in Hollywood have put disaster movies about earthquakes into development. However most either disappeared or were cancelled due to budget worries. One is going ahead and to prove it, Dwayne Johnson has posted the first pic from San Andreas on his Instagram.

He accompanied the pic with the message, “Puttin’ in a lot of hard ass work and proud to play my next role… Los Angeles Fire Department Air Squadron Rescue. Shooting starts in 4 weeks. Biggest earthquake of all time hits… SAN ANDREAS. #FirstInLastOut”

Johnson will play a helicopter pilot who travels across California to rescue his estranged daughter after a massive earthquake strikes.

The film reunites Dwayne with Journey 2: The Mysterious Island director Brad Peyton. Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino and Art Parkinson also star, with a June 2015 release planned.

Is Lupita Nyong’o Close To Signing Up For Star Wars VII?

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Lupita-NyongoThe Best Supporting Actress Oscar is often said to be a bit of a curse for actresses, as rather than opening up opportunities, many who’ve won have actually seen their career dip afterwards. However it’s tough to see that being true of Lupita Nyong’o, who’s not only astonishingly talented but a bit of a stunner to look at.

Now it’s possibly she may be heading to a galaxy far, far away, as THR reports the 12 Years A Slave actress is close to getting a role, which is said to be a major female character who is not tied into the Skywalker family bloodline. No other details have been released, and the actress’s reps are not talking.

There’s a suggestion she could be playing a descendant of Obi Wan Kenobi. And while she’s not exactly a dead ringer for Alec Guinness or Ewan McGregor, who’s to say how racial genetics work on planets in other galaxies!

The other possibility is that Nyong’o is up for an important Sith role opposite main villain Adam Driver.

Abrams is doing a good job of keeping things secret, as you’d have thought we’d have known a lot more about the film and the casting by now, as it’s only a few months until it’s due to shoot. However it is seemingly we’re getting close to finding out who will be joining the likes of Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill.

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

joel-edgertonThe first image from the movie Life was released a few days ago, so you’d have thought the cast would be complete by now, but it turns out at they’ve found room for one more, as Robert Pattinson and Dane DeHaan have been joined by Joel Edgerton, according to Variety.

The film is based on the true story of freelance photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson), who back in the 9150s was commissioned by Life Magazine to photograph up and coming movie star James Dean (DeHaan). They took journey from Los Angeles to New York, with the film following their burgeoning friendship along the way.

Edgerton is set to play Magnum Photography editor John Morris, who brokered the deal with Life Magazine for the photos. Ben Kingsley and Alessandra Mastronardi also star.

Zach Galifianakis & Jon Hamm Are Keeping Up With The Joneses

March 16, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-hammJon Hamm didn’t get to show off his comedy skills much in Mad Men, but he can be a very funny man. He’s hoping to show that off as THR reports that Hamm and Zach Galifianakis are in negotiations to team up for Keeping Up With the Joneses.

Greg Mottola (Paul, Adventureland) is set to direct the comedy, which is about a type-A couple who move into a peaceful suburban neighbourhood. However as so often in these types of movie, thing don’t quite turn out as they’d hoped, as they discover that their seemingly-perfect neighbours are actually covert agents.

Walter F. Parkes and Laurie McDonald are producing, after developing the project for the past two years. It’s not clear when it will shoot, although Jon Hamm has plenty of time to fit it into his schedule as he’s recently finished filming the final season of Mad Men.

Get On Up Trailer – Chadwick Boseman takes on the James Brown biopic

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After being in the works for a long time, Get On Up, the biopic of the legendary Godfather Of Soul, James Brown, is on its way, and we can take our first look with a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award®-nominated blockbuster The Help, Tate Taylor directs 42’s Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get on Up. New Sabotage Red-Band Trailer – Arnie takes on the drug cartels

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to the movies probably hasn’t been as big a success as he’s hoped, with lacklustre attendance for the likes of The Last Stand and Escape Plan. However he’ll be hoping that by returning to what looks like a bit of a lean, mean action movie, with a good director (David Ayer – Training Day, End of Watch) and a strong cast including Sam Worthington, Josh Holloway, Terrence Howard and Harold Perrineau, more people will be interested.

Now we can take a look with a red-band trailer for Sabotage.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In “Sabotage”, Arnold Schwarzenegger leads an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done – until, one-by-one, the team members mysteriously start to be eliminated. As the body count rises, everyone is a suspect.’

The movie due out March 28th in the US and May 9th in the UK. [Read more…]

Nicholas Hoult Will Head For Iraq In Sand Castle

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

nicholas-hoult-flaunt7-slide
We’ll next get to see Nicholas Hoult in X-Men: Days Of Future Past and he’s currently shooting the Britpop comedy Kill Your Friends. However he’s already lining up future projects as THR reports that he’s signed on for the Iraqi war drama, Sand Castle.

Based on a true story, the film ‘chronicles the story of Chris Roessner’s two years and more than 200 missions as a machine gunner in Iraq’s Sunni Triangle. The story centers on Matt Ocre (Hoult) and the leader of his platoon, Sergeant Baker, as they attempt to protect Baqubah, a dangerous farming village.’

The movie may have a bit more truth to it than usual as Chris Roessner himself wrote the script, which landed on the Black List in 2012.

British commercials director Seb Edwards will make his feature debut with the movie.

Captain America & Batman Vs. Superman Release Date Showdown Set

March 14, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-2-final-poster-slideA couple of days ago, Marvel head Kevin Fiege was talking about the fact that DC had moved its planned Batman Vs. Superman onto a release date that was already occupied by a then unknown Marvel movie. Fiege said they weren’t backing off the date, although wouldn’t be drawn on what the film they were making actually was.

Now we know, as THR reports that it’s Captain America 3 that’s set to be released on the same day as Batman Vs. Superman on May 6th, 2016.

So the current question is whether you would prefer to swoon at Henry Cavill or Chris Evans.

It’s turning into a massive game of chicken, as neither studio wants to end up losing audience to the other, but equally both wants to show its film is the most important and should get the prime Memorial Day release. There’s a chance both films will indeed come out on that day, although with more than two years to go, there’s a greater chance that either Marvel or DC will find an excuse to move to another date.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are confirmed to return for Captain America 3, although it’s not known exactly when it will shoot. It’s likely to be early next year.
