A few new posters have popped up online, giving us a look at Star Trek Into Darkness, The Hangover Part III and a kaiju vs. jaeger banner from Pacific Rim. They’re all pretty good, so click on the pics below for larger versions.

The Star Trek Into Darkness pic promotes the film’s IMAX release, and seems to show the Enterprise under attack from itself! The JJ Abrams film is out in the UK on May 9th and May 17th in the US.

The Hangover Part III is out May 24th, and sees the Wolfpack back in Vegas. John Goodman is the bad guy, who wants money from Ken Jeong’s Mr. Chow, with the guys getting caught up in the chase.

Pacific Rim meanwhile is Guillermo Del Toro’s movie which sees humanity fighting back against monsters rising from the ocean, by building gigantic, human-controlled robots. It’ll hit cinemas on July 12th.

Jessica Chastain Joins The Zookeeper’s Wife

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jessica-ChastainJessica Chastain has certainly made her mark on the film world in the last couple of years, even if her lack of big blockbuster Hollywood movies means she’s still not that well known to the general moviegoing public. She’s sticking with the sort of movies that bring a lot of critical acclaim even if they don’t always become breakout mianstream hits, as THR reports he’s take the title role in The Zookeeper’s Wife.

Based on Diane Ackerman’s non-fiction book, The Zookeeper’s Wife, the tome chronicles how Jan and Atonina Zabinski, who were the keepers at the Warsaw Zoo, turned it into a safe haven for Jews during the Second World War, after the Nazis invaded Poland. Persecuted Jews were hidden in cages and sheds (most of the animals were dead), as well as the Zabinski’s house.

Niki Caro (Whale Rider) is set to direct, with a script by Angela Workman. Now that Chastain is attached, the movie will be looking for buyers at Cannes later this month.

Girls Star Allison Williams Eyed For Fantastic Four & Takes The Lead In Rosaline

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

alison-williamsAllison Williams has never been in a movie, but thanks to the success of TV’s Girls, she’s going to be able to make up for lost time, as Deadline reports that she is now the front runner for a role in the planned Fantastic Four reboot. No details were given, but it seems likely that she is in contention to play Sue Storm, aka. The Invisible Girl.

There is a note of caution though, as the film is still at an early stage, so the producers may change their mind about Williams, but she’s at the front of the pack at the moment.

Even if she doesn’t get that role, she’ll still be able to make her feature debut, as she has signed on to take the lead role in Rosaline for 20th Century Fox and producer Shawn Levy. Lily Collins and Deborah Ann Woll were previously attached to the film, but it seems they’ve moved on from the movie. Dave Franco is also set to star.

The story is adapted from Rebecca Serle’s novel, which tells a revisionist parallel tale to Romeo & Juliet. Rosaline doesn’t actually appear in Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, but she is mentioned as the girl Romeo dated before he took up with Juliet. The new modern-day take tells the story through Rosaline’s eyes, as she watches the two doomed lovers enter into a suicide pact.

Fantastic Four comes to is currently set for release on March 6th, 2015, with Josh Trank directing. There’s no news on when we might see Rosaline.

Die Hard 6 Gets A Tentative Title & A Location

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

good-day-die-hard-poster1Even before A Good Day to Die Hard was made, Bruce Willis was already talking about part 6, and suggested it would come soon after the fifth instalment. While some wondered whether the failure of Die Hard 5 at the US box office would put pay to any more movie, it did made $300 million worldwide, which has ensured Fox is still interested in making more.

Now Total Film has some info on that sixth Die Hard movie. It appears the film is tentatively titled Die Hardest and will take place in Tokyo. Screenwriter Ben Trebilcook is said to be currently drafting a treatment. He’s fairly new to the movies, but he does have the in-production videogame-themed action thriller Knocktout to his name.

A Good Day to Die Hard consulting producer Larry D. Webster is working on Knocktout, which is how he got hooked up with Trebilcook. No polot details have been released, but Trebilcook claims this new story will please fans, saying, “It is extremely faithful to the franchise and characters and is a natural progression. It’s also a very plausible storyline.”

Ben Trebilcook does add a note of caution though, saying, “Getting Larry’s support was great, but there are many hurdles to leap yet and two of those are called Bruce Willis and [producer] Alex Young. [There’s] the possibility producers might go back and find some other source material to base the next one on, like they did with the first and second. Mine though, I feel it could be the Rocky Balboa of the Die Hard franchise.”

It is not clear if Larry D. Webster hired Ben Trebilcook on behalf of 20th Century Fox, or if he is working outside of the studio.

Natalie Portman Will Be Lady Macbeth Opposite Michael Fassbender

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

natalie-portmanJust yesterday we reported that Michael Fassbender had signed on to star in a new screen version of Macbeth, and now he’s got some company, as ScreenDaily says Natalie Portman will be his duplicitous wife in the movie.

It’s apparently a dream role for Portman, who has long wanted to portray Lady Macbeth and has previously considered joining stage versions of Shakespeare’s tragedy.

The screenplay was written by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff (The Marc Pease Experience), although it will retain Shakespeare’s actual words. The script retains the 11th Century setting of the play, which follows a cunning Scottish Lord who plot to steal the throne, with the help of his wife and a trio of witches. The screenplay is said to take a visceral approach to the battle scenes, while keeping most of the original dialogue intact.

Justin Kurzel (Snowtown) is directing. The film will be looking for sales at Cannes, and is is scheduled to begin later this year.

Sharlto Copley On For Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

sharlto-copleyIt took four years for director Neill Blomkamp to make a follow-up to District 9, with Elysium due in cinemas this summer. Blomkamp seems keen to ensure there’s not such a big gap until his next movie, as he’s already cast Sharlto Copley in his upcoming movie, Chappie, according to EW.

Copley appears in both District 9 and Elysium, so Blomkamp is certainly sticking with his friend. Unfortunately though, little is known about the story of Chappie, except that it is a sci-fi comedy that takes place in a ‘unique setting’.

Neill Blomkamp is directing Chappie from a screenplay he co-wrote with District 9 scripter Terri Tatchell.
Aside from Elysium, which opens on August 9, Sharlto Copley will next be seen in Spike Lee’s Oldboy, Sebastián Cordero’s Europa Report, and Robert Stromberg’s Maleficent.

Jon Hamm Joins Despicable Me Spin-off, Minions

May 1, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jon-hammJon Hamm is getting family friendly as the Mad Men star has signed on for a voice role in the Despicable Me spin-off, Minions, playing Sandra Bullock’s husband in the movie, according to Deadline.

The story is set in the 1960s, long before the little yellow Minions joined forces with Despicable Me’s Gru. The film lets us know that the pint-sized henchmen have been around since the beginning of time, providing their services to the world’s elite villains.

The plot follows the Minions as they head to a villain conference to find their latest master to serve, where they encounter Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock), whose ‘Audrey Hepburn-like high style appearance belies her world domination ambition and her aspirations to become the world’s first female super-villain’. Jon Hamm is playing Scarlett’s inventor husband, Herb Overkill.

Pierre Coffin (Despicable Me) and Kyle Balda (Dr. Seuss’ the Lorax) are directing from a screenplay by Brian Lynch.

Pacific Rim Wonder Con Trailer – Guillermo Del Toro’s film is looking truly epic

April 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Warner Bros and Guillermo Del Toro cut together a new Pacific Rim trailer for Wonder Con, and the original plan was to only show it there. But after a great response, they’ve decided we should all get a look. That would seem a good idea, as this takes the movie to a whole different level thatwhat we’ve seen before – it’s always looked huge, but this is massive!

There’s also plenty of info, such as a brief history of the fact Kaiju (monsters) are being sent through a portal in the Pacific and deliberately aimed at massive population centres. This results in the Jaeger programme, where massive robots are piloted by two humans to battle the creatures. However while it was initially a success, things have gone wrong.

It’s an impressive trailer, which should massive up the excitement for the film. It’s due July 12th in both the US and UK.

First Snowpiercer Footage Online – A behind-the-scenes look at the Chris Evans film suggests a stylish sci-fi flick

April 30, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

English speaking people tend to think the whole world ought to be tailored for them, so when a video pops up in one language, with subtitles in another, it’s a good reminder that not everyone out there things English is so amazing. That’s what’s happened with the first look at Snowpiercer, which is largely in Korean, but gives us out first look at the movie.

Snowpiercer marks Korean director Joon-ho Bong (The Host, Mother) making his English-language debut. The film is a dystopian sci-fi set on a ravaged Earth where the few human survivors are on the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe. However a revolution is brewing amongst the passengers inside.

The film has a great cast, although as you can see in the new character posters above and below, they’re not always completely recognisable. However the film follows Curtis (Chris Evans), Mason (Tilda Swinton), Gilliam (John Hurt), Wilford (Ed Harris), Namgoong Minsu (Kang-ho Song), Edgar (Jamie Bell), Tanya (Octavia Spencer), Andrew (Ewen Bremner) and Yona (Ah-sung Ko).

From this footage it certainly looks stylish. The film hits US cinemas in May.
