Jennifer Lawrence Gets Close To Sam Claflin In First Look At Hunger Games: Catching Fire

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

hunger-games-catching-fire-ew-pic1After the huge success of The Hunger Games, there are a lot of people avidly looking forward to the follow up, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which is due for release on November 22nd. Now EW has released our first look at the movie with the image above and the cover below.

Both images feature Jennifer Lawrence’s Karniss Everdeen alongside new character Finnick Odair, played by British actor Sam Claflin (Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides). Finnick is a previous Hunger Games champion who like Katniss is called up to be sent back into the arena. He’s known for being cocky, arrogant and very much a ladies man, but as we slowly discover, things aren’t quite as they appear.

Francis Lawrence directs, taking over from Gary Ross who made the first film.

The Last Exorcism Part II Trailer – This one’s going to be even last-erer

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

They should have thought that calling a film The Last Exorcism makes any sequels sound a bit daft, but the 2010 movie was successful enough to get a Part 2, and now the trailer for the sequel has arrived. However, while the first film was a ‘found footage’ effort, it appears this one if a conventional movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.’

Expect it in cinemas March 15th.

Girls Against Boys Trailer – The battle of the sexes gets violent

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A title like Boys Against Girls sounds like it should be a teen flick, but as this trailer shows, the movie is anything but.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘When Shae (Danielle Panabaker), a naïve college student, is tormented by several men in a matter of days, she reaches her breaking point, and is drawn into coworker Lu’s (Nicole LaLiberte) twisted plan for revenge. Together, the two embark on a gruesome killing spree, terrorizing and brutally murdering not just their attackers, but any man who gets in their way. However, after a wild weekend of retaliation, the friendship between the girls shifts into a dangerous obsession, and their perverse game becomes a desperate struggle for Shae to maintain control against Lu’s deadly and seductive influence.’

The film reaches the US in early February, but no UK release date is currently set.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II Leads Razzie Nominations

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

twilight-breaking-dawn-2-posterKicking The Twilight Saga almost seems lazy, but with the film series coming to an end, the Razzies couldn’t help themselves and have nominated the movie in every category of the awards which ‘dis’-honour the worst of Hollywood.

There’s also plenty of dislike for the likes of Battleship, That’s My Boy, The Oogieloves In Big Balloon Adventure and A Thousand Words, all of which are included in the Worst picture category. Most of the nominations are tough to argue with, although many enjoye Piranha 3DD, which is up for Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel. And both Vanilla Ice in That’s My Boy and David Hasselhoff in Piranha 3DD were supposed to be bad and silly, so it’s a bit mean to include them in the Worst Supporting Actor category.

Charlize Theron May Join Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For a couple of years now, Paul Thomas Anderson has been attempting to adapt Thomas charlize-theronPynchon’s Inherent Vice – indeed he originally wanted to make it before The Master. He’s already got Robert Downey Jr. attached to the male lead, and now Showbiz411 reports that he may have found a female lead, Charlize Theron.

Pynchon’s novel tells the story of a stoner PI (Downey Jr.) in 1969 Los Angeles who gets mixed up in a series of mysteries while the Manson Family murder trail plays out in the background. There’s no news on exactly who Theron will play, but it’s likely to be either the PI’s ex-girlfriend, who is now dallying with a big-name real estate mogul, or the mogul’s wife (which seems more likely).

There’s no news on exactly when it might shoot, but hopefully PTA will get round to it soon and we won’t have another seven year gap, like there was between There Will Be Blood and The Master.

Alex Pettyfer, Lucas Till And Jeremy Irvine Eyed For Divergent

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

divergent-leadA couple of month ago, The Descendants star Shailene Woodley signed up to take the female lead in the adaptation of Veronica Roth’s novel Divergent, and now Variety reports that Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike), Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Lucas Till (X-Men: First Class) are at the top of the list to take the main male role.

The book, which is drawing comparisons to The Hunger Games, is about a 16-year-old girl named Beatrice Prior, who lives in a society divided into five factions, each based on a different virtue: honesty, selflessness, bravery, peacefulness, and intelligence. Beatrice must choose which faction whe wants to try and join, and starts training in order to enter.

Variety doesn’t specifically mention the male character Pettyfer, Irvin and Till are up for, but it’s presumed it’s Four, the man who helps train Beatrice.

Neil Burger will direct this first installment of what is being set up as a trilogy.

Will Forte and Tim Robbins Take On Switch, Replacing Dennis Quaid and Ty Burrell

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-forteThe Jackie Brown prequel Switch is having a bit of a Switch of its own, as actors Will Forte and Tim Robbins have signed up to replace Ty Burrell and Dennis Quaid in the movie, who’ve had to step away due to scheduling issues, according to Variety.

The film, based on Elmore Leonard’s novel, is set 15 years before the events in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, following Louis Gara (John Hawkes) and Ordell Robbie (Yasiin Bey) who join forces to kidnap Mickey (Jennifer Aniston) , the wife of a real estate magnate (Tim Robbins). Their plan goes awry when the husband refuses to pay the ransom, leading Mickey to use her abductors for revenge.

Will Forte is set to play Marshall Taylor, a member of Mickey’s country club who witnesses the kidnapping and has a serious crush on Mickey. Isla Fisher is also onboard to play a younger version of Melanie, originally played by Bridget Fonda in Jackie Brown.

Daniel Schechter is directing from his own adapted screenplay. Production is scheduled to begin next month.

Josh Brolin Playing Dwight In Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

josh-brolinJust yesterday we discovered Joseph Gordon-Levitt had joined the cast of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and now the roll call of well-known names has grown again, as Josh Brolin and Christopher Meloni have joined the film.

Brolin will play Dwight, taking over the role from Clive Owen who played the part in the first Sin City Movie. In Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to ‘The Big Fat Kill’ (featured in the film Sin City) and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face – so it should make sense that he’s not played by Clive Owen.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller commented, “Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and “A Dame To Kill For” is a defining episode in his life. We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight.”

As yet it’s not known who Christopher Meloni will play.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Jaime King all return, with new cast members including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert and Jamie Chung. The part of the ‘Dame’ has yet to be cast. Production is underway at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas. (Source: Variety)

Tina Fey In Talks For Muppets 2 Female Lead

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

tina-feyA lot of people grumbled when Ricky Gervais was cast as the male lead in The Muppets 2, but there should be less division over that fact 30 Rock’s Tina Fey is now in talks for the female lead in the movie, according to THR. Assuming she does sign on, it would mean both last year and this year’s Golden Globe Awards hosts would be in the film.

Plot details are being held under wraps, but it’s slipped out that Fey is going to play a Russian gulag prison guard. Ty Burrell will be playing a lazy Interpol inspector, while Ricky Gervais’s character is still unknown. The film will see Kermit and co, heading to Europe.

It’s also been suggested by /Film that the working title for the film is The Muppets… Again, although it’s not known if that’s the name it will come to cinemas under.

James Bobin will be back to direct the sequel from a screenplay he wrote with Nick Stoller. Production is scheduled to begin this month in London.

Michael Bay Casts Newcomer Jack Reynor In Transformers 4

January 9, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reynorMichael Bay isn’t afraid of casting unknown faces, although he normally does it with female characters, such as Megan Fox in Transformers and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (who may have been known as a model but had no acting experience) in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon. Now he’s done it with one of the young male characters in Transformers 4.

Bay announced on his website, “I just hired a great new actor for Transformers 4 to star against Mark Wahlberg. Jack Reynor, he is an Irish kid that came to America with 30 bucks in his pocket. Pretty ballsy. Seriously who does that? Anyway I spotted him in a great little Irish movie What Richard Did. This kid is the real deal.

Transformers 4, is not a reboot. That word has been floating around on the net. This movie takes place exactly 4 years after the war in Chicago. The story makes a very natural transition, and reason as to why we have a whole new cast. This Transformers will feel very different then the last three. We are embarking on a new trilogy. Michael”

The young actor’s role was not specifically revealed. Last month it was revealed that Nicola Peltz is playing the daughter of Mark Wahlberg’s character, while Brenton Thwaites is playing her boyfriend. Transformers 4 hits cinemas June 29th, 2014.

If you want to see a bit more of Jack, here’s the trailer for What Richard Did.
