New The Dark Knight Rises Trailer – The Bat is back

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With all the excitement over The Avengers, film fans forgot about The Dark Knight Rises for five minutes, which is probably a good thing as the movie is in danger of reaching hype levels it can’t possibly live up to. Now a new trailer has popped up giving us our best look at the movie yet. The trailer suggests the film will be a grand spectacle and it’s interesting that Chris Nolan is using bridges again, something that’s been a theme through the earlier two movies.

Despite his tarnished reputation after the events of The Dark Knight, in which he took the rap for Dent’s crimes, Batman feels compelled to intervene to assist the city and its police force which is struggling to cope with the villainous Bane’s plans to destroy the city. And then there’s also the mysterious Selina Kyle. The film hits cinemas July 20th.

Emily Watson, Nia Vardalos & Sandra Oh Going To 33 Liberty Lane

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A great female cast is coming together for the rom-com 33 Liberty Lane, with THR reporting that Emily Watson, Nia Vardalos, Sandra Oh and Melora Hardin have all signed up to star for director Peter Hewitt.

The actresses will play a group of four friends who set up a phone-sex business to help pay the bills. However while they know there’s a lot of money in the sex industry they don’t know much about how to get hold of it, so they turn to a local prostitute to lend some expertise.

Brit born Hewitt made his debut with Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, and has also helmed The Borrowers, Thunderpants, Garfield and is currently shooting Home Alone 5 (yep, it really is being made), so this is something slightly different for him. 33 Liberty Lane will shoot this summer.

Sally Hawkins Joins Woody Allen’s Next

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It appears that having gone on his European tour, Woody Allen is planning to head back to the States for his next movie, and he’s already signing up the cast to hep him. Variety reports that Woody wants Sally Hawkins to join the select band of actresses who’ve worked with him more than once, as she was in Cassandra’s Dream and will now star in his new movie.

As always with Woody, the plot details are known only to him, but the film will shoot in San Francisco and his beloved New York this summer, with Sally playing a neurotic woman who’s nevertheless fun to be with (Woody often has character who basically stand in for him if he’s not starring in a film, so is Sally gonna be a female Woody this time around?).

Hawkins may have some starry company, as while neither has signed up as of yet, Cate Blanchett is being considered to play a sophisticated type who has her life sorted out, while Bradley Cooper is circling a role too.

Emma Watson Joins Seth Rogen’s Apocalypse

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For years now Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel have been talking about making their tongue in cheek movie, Jay & Seth Vs. The Apocalypse, but it’s only in the last few months it’s really been moving forward. Even so, there’s slightly been the feel that it may come to nothing, although that’s slightly changed now as the cast has started to grow, with THR reporting that Emma Watson, Jason Segel and David Krumholtz have all agreed to cameo as themselves in the film.

Rogen has previously that it’s, “A movie about a bunch of friends who are stuck in a house together as the apocalypse happens outside and they kind of barricade themselves in. They think they’ve kind of survived the worst and then they realise they all really can’t stand to be around each other as they’re stuck in this house together.”

One word of warning though, over the years a lot of potential cast member have come and gone, so having Emma, Jason and David sign up is no guarantee they’ll actually end up in the movie. Indeed, Watson’s Harry Potter co-star, Daniel Radcliffe, was attached at one point, and Rogen has previously suggested Danny McBride, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson are all onboard. They all appear to still involved at the moment, but we’ll have to wait and see if they do end up on the screen.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg will direct, with the current plan to have the movies in cinemas June 2013.

Will Hulk Smash Back Into Cinemas In 2015?

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Bruce Banner/Hulk hogging several of the most talked about moments in The Avengers, it’s little wonder there’s already speculation about whether Marvel will bring the character back in a standalone film.

After a bit of digging around, several sites are suggesting it’s likely, with Collider having chatted to actor Mark Ruffalo, who said he signed one of Marvel’s standard six-movie contracts, suggesting he’ll stick with the character for a while to come (and had such fun with The Avengers, he doesn’t mind that at all).

However the firmest news comes from Marvel consumer products chief Paul Gitter, who told Forbes (via The Playlist), that if the popularity of Hulk continues to grow the company will spin him off to a stand-alone TV program next year, supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015.

It’s still early days though, as recently Marvel Chief Kevin Feige was insistent there were no Hulk movie plans, saying “I mean, this was the third appearance of Hulk and everything that we had and were going for, we put in to Hulk’s appearance in ‘Avengers.’ So, I love that people are saying that and are feeling that way about Hulk, but mission accomplished at this point.”

However, he might not have been expecting the audience reaction to the character in The Avengers. We’ll have to wait and see whether we do get yet another Hulk flick.

Warner Bros. Wants Dinosaurs To Take Over LA!

May 1, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Lost World has already shown us what would happen if one T-rex was let loose in San Diego, and now Warner Bros. wants to unleash a gaggle of the prehistoric beasties on LA. Deadline reports that John Clisham, a longtime employee of James Cameron who most recently worked on the 3D conversion of Titanic, will write and direct a dino based movie for the studio.

The flick follows a pack of rapidly mutating dinosaurs that stomp all over modern day Los Angeles. Mike Bayman is co-writing the script, the contents of which are being kept mostly under wraps – although I think we can assume there’ll be much running and screaming from the human population and much roaring and chomping on people by the dinos.

The project was originally conceived as a large-scale webseries but Warner Bros. moved on the property after seeing some impressive early test footage, and acquired it as a feature film.

Jamie Bell Joins Quirky Rom Com Fighting Jacob

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Jamie Bell has spent a long time just on the edge of breaking big, with everyone agreeing he’s a good actor, but he never gets the part that tips him into full-on movie stardom. His best chance was the title role in Tintin, but of course he wasn’t recognisable in that.

Now he’s taking the lead opposite Kate Mara (Brokeback Mountain) in a new ‘quirky’ rom com called Fighting Jacob, which Variety reports will be the feature directorial debut of Charlie McDowell. Bell will play the title character, Jacob ‘The Manic Maniac’ Rosenthal, an up and coming boxer who has extreme OCD, which is oddly enough the key to his success in the ring. Then he has a devastating break-up with Mara’s character, which forces him to re-evaluate his life and decide whether he can be truly happy being neurotic and a top fighter, but having his OCD affect his private life massively.

The movie is due to shoot this summer in LA.

Ben Foster, Casey Affleck & Rooney Mara Join Ain’t Them Bodies Saints

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Rooney Mara has had a busy week, as she’s busy making Steven Soderbergh’s The Bitter Pill and yet has had time to attach herself to three other movies that we’ve heard about in the last few days. The latest of these is Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, which Deadline reports also has Ben Foster and Casey Affleck on board for writer-director David Lowery.

The project is an expansion of Lowery’s short film, which debuted at Sundance earlier this year. The short follows a 1970s outlaw who escapes from a Texas prison and sets out in search of his wife and daughter. It isn’t clear which roles the actors will portray.

David Lowery will direct from his own screenplay. Production is scheduled to take place this summer in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It’s not clear how Mara will fit this in, as she already has several other summer shoots planned.

New Prometheus International Trailer – Loads of awesome new footage

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Quite frankly, the moment they called their ship the Prometheus they should have known they were in trouble. After all, in Greek mythology Prometheus ended up have his liver being eaten by an eagle for all eternity while he was chained to a rock, in punishment for stealing fire from the gods. However, while they should have probably picked a better name, the movie looks awesome, and now a new three-minute international trailer have arrived, which premiered last night on UK TV and is now available online. There’s loads of new footage, including plenty of intriguing links as to how it will be linked to Alien. It’s undoubtedly exciting, and we only have a few weeks to wait, as the film is due in cinemas June 1st.

Think Like A Man Tops US Box Office Again

April 30, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After surprising many with its strong $30 million plus opening last week, Think Like A Man has continued its successful run at the US box office topping the chart for a second week with $18 million. It beat out quite a few new movies, none of which found a particularly big audience.

The Pirates! Band Of Misfits did best of the new entries, placing second with $11.4 million, which was about in line with expectations. And yes, it is the same film as The Pirates In An Adventure With Scientists, but got a bit of a title change as US marketing people thought the word ‘scientists’ would turn kids off.

The Five-Year Engagement landed with a bit of a thud, underperforming with only $11.1 million. Going in to the weekend, some analysts thought the Jason Segel and Emily Blunt rom-com had a chance of topping the chart, but it appear audiences weren’t interested, perhaps because there are already several other movies hoovering up the female audience at the moment.

It did however beat out the Jason Statham film Safe, which placed sixth on the chart with $7.7 million, as well as The Raven, which came seventh on the chart with $7.2 million.

Next weekend it’ll be all change as The Avengers will hit the US this week, with many expecting a $150 million plus opening weekend. The movie is already making waves outside the US, making a huge $178 million even though it only opened in around 75% of territories. In the UK, the film pulled in a rather stellar $15 million, one of the best openings ever and the best for a superhero movie.

1 Think Like A Man $18.0 $60.8
2 The Pirates! Band Of Misfits $11.4 $11.4
3 The Lucky One $11.3 $39.9
