The Circle Trailer – Emma Watson and Tom Hanks take on a techno-thriller

December 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-circles-slide-2017Based on a Dave Eggers novel, The Circle is a film that’s vaguely science-fiction, but actually far closer to reality than we might like to admit. After all, Google and Facebook already know more about us than even our closest friends.

Watson plays a young woman who’s hired for a big job in an Internet company called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. It’s there that she meets a mysterious older man, Bailey, who has created the Circle.

Director James Ponsoldt comments to USA Today, “Bailey’s notion is that knowing is good, and knowing everything is better. He believes all experiences should be available to everyone, not only the privileged or people who can afford to them. He’s deeply interested in technology that can make people share all human experiences with everyone. He’s a boundary pusher, even boundary destroyer.”

The likes of John Boyega, Karen Gillan, Patton Oswalt, Bill Paxton and Glenne Headly also star. Take a look at the trailer below. The film will be in cinemas next year. [Read more…]

New Fist Fight Trailer – Charlie Day and Ice Cube are gonna have fisticuffs

December 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

fist-fight-slideHave you ever been in a fight? Some people seem to have been in loads of them, but many others have never landed a punch of received one. In Fist Fight Charlie Day is one of those people.

On the last day of the year, mild-mannered high school English teacher, Andy Campbell (Day), is trying his best to keep it together amidst senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration and budget cuts that put jobs on the line. But things go from bad to worse when he accidentally crosses his much tougher and deeply feared colleague, Ron Strickland (Ice Cube), who challenges Campbell to an old-fashioned throw down after school. News of the fight spreads like wildfire and ends up becoming the very thing this school, and Campbell, needed.

Directed by Richie Keen (“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), “Fist Fight” also stars Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”), Jillian Bell (“22 Jump Street”), Dean Norris (“Breaking Bad”), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”), Dennis Haysbert (“The Unit”), JoAnna Garcia Swisher (“The Astronaut Wives Club”).

The movie is due out in the UK March 3rd, 2017. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

The Mummy Trailer – Tom Cruise launches an interconnected monster universe

December 5, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mummy-slideThe main aim of this trailer seems to be to suggest that this will be a very different proposition than the Brendan Fraser starring Mummy movies. And with Tom Cruise starring and a full-on blockbuster tone, Universal is also trying its best to ensure that their plans for an interconnected monster movie universe get off to a good start.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilisation: The Mummy.

‘Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.’

The film is due out June 2017. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailer – Chris Pratt’s Star Lord and the crew are back

December 4, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

guardians-of-the-galaxy-vol-2-teaser-slideIt’s easy to forget that before it was released Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a massive gamble for Marvel. It was based on a property that wasn’t as well-known as the likes of Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America, had a very different tone to other Marvel movies, and its more explicitly sci-fi setting didn’t match what we’d seen from the Marvel Universe up to that point.

Now it seems obvious it was going to be a huge success, but that’s only because all the pieces came together perfectly, from the smart decision to hire James Gunn as writer/director, to casting Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star Lord. Now it’s on its way back with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is directed by James Gunn and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Tommy Flanagan, Laura Haddock and Kurt Russell. Kevin Feige is producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, Victoria Alonso, Nik Korda and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by James Gunn. Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts into UK cinemas April 28th 2017.’ [Read more…]

The Shack Trailer – A grieving Sam Worthington finds God in Octavia Spencer

December 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

shack-slideAnyone who’s noticed Olivia Spencer’s unerring ability to steal every scene she’s every starred in may already be suspicious that she’s a bit godly. Now she may be literally God in the new movie, The Shack.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips (Sam Worthington) spirals into a deep depression causing him to question his innermost beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encounters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa (Octavia Spencer). Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever.’

Although the synopsis doesn’t state it flat out, Spencer’s character may be a manifestation of God. Based on William P. Young’s movie, with Stuart Hazeldine direct, The Shack is due out next Spring. [Read more…]

The Belko Experiment Trailer – The Office gets bloody in the James Gunn written movie

December 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

belko-experiment-slideJames Gunn is a busy man, hard at work in the Marvel universe on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. However, between Guardians Vol. 1 and next year’s Vol. 2, the man who previously brought us the gruesome Slither found time to pen another horror movie, The Belko Experiment.

As you’ll see from the trailer, it’s kind of Battle Royale meets Office Space. Here’s the synopsis: ‘It at first seems to be an ordinary morning on the job for a group of Americans working for a not-for-profit in a modern office building in Colombia. After noticing that their Colombian colleagues have not arrived for work, office worker Mike (John Gallagher, Jr.) spots some unfamiliar security guards entering a large hangar nearby. Moments later, an icy voice comes over the building’s PA system and calmly explains that the employees must kill a certain number of their co-workers — if not, they will be killed themselves. While the boss (Tony Goldwyn) tries to calm the troops, Mike belatedly realizes that something truly sinister is going on — and when metal doors come sliding down on all the building’s exits and windows, it becomes clear that friends and colleagues are now suddenly enemies in a bloody and brutal battle to the death.’

The movie stars John Gallagher Jr., Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Adria Arjona, John C. McGinley, Tony Goldwyn, David Dastmalchian, Melonie Diaz, and Josh Brener, with Wolf Creek’s Greg McLean directing. It’ll be out next Spring. [Read more…]

Amy Schumer Is In Talks To Be The Live-Action Barbie

December 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

amy-schumerBack in 2014 it was revealed that Sony & Mattel were working on a live-action Barbie movie. If you’d drawn up a list of the actresses you might have expected to nab the lead role, Amy Schumer probably wouldn’t have been on it, as she doesn’t exactly fit into the Barbie stereotypes. However, Variety reports she’s in talks for the role, and while she may not immediately seem an obvious fit, the funny woman is a smart choice.

A live-action Barbie movie was always likely to run into trouble unless it could divorce itself from the idea of the toy many people have – a woman only interested in fashion, looking pretty, having a hunky Ken, and the material things in life. Having Schumer on board should ensure the movie can play with those ideas, while have a few smart, funny things to say about them.

Hilary Winston wroted the initial script, but it’s believed it’ll now be handed over to Schumer and her sister, Kim Caramele, for retooling. The more is said to be, ‘in the vein of “Splash”, “Enchanted” and “Big.” In it, the main character gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure.’

The film’s due out summer 2018.

New Office Christmas Party Trailer – Jennifer Aniston & Jason Bateman lead a star-studded festive film

December 3, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

office-christmas-partyOffice Christmas Party is a bit of a lazy title for a movie, but at least it should do exactly what it says on the tin. However, to give it a bit of a boost they’ve lined up a good cast, led by Horrible Bosses and The Switch co-stars Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston, as well as Olivia Munn, Jamie Chung, Rob Corddry, Jillian Bell, T.J. Miller and Kate McKinnon.

As you might have suspected from the title, the movie is about an office party gone awry. Aniston plays an uptight CEO who threatens to shut down the branch her brother (Bateman) manages, He decided the best way to fight back is to throw an epic Christmas party in order to land a big client. However, his plan to save the day quickly goes wrong when the party gets massively out of hand.

Blades of Glory’s Will Speck and Josh Gordon direct from a script by Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky and Laura Solon. Unsurprisingly it’ll be hitting cinemas just before Christmas. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

The First Mummy Poster & Teaser Arrive To Prepare Us For Tom Cruise Facing Evil

December 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mummy-poster1Universal Studios is lacking superhero franchise it can build into an interconnected universe, but with a history of monster movies stretching back to the 1930s, they’re hoping they build a universe around those. To help they’ve lined up some big names, with Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man, Russell Crowe as Dr. Jeykll and Tom Cruise facing off against The Mummy.

The last of those will be the first to arrive (with Crowe also featuring in the movie), and now the first poster have arrived, along with a brief video tease, to prepare us for the trailer that’s due to arrive over the weekend.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, joined by a cast including Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond), Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, TV’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson), Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator) and will be directed by Alex Kurtzman.’

Rob Letterman Set To Helm Live-Action Pokemon Movie, Detective Pikachu

December 1, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

rob-lettermanI have to say, the title Detective Pikachu doesn’t give me an awful lot of faith in the planned live-action Pikachu, but perhaps the film itself won’t be as embarrassingly cheesy as that makes it sound. Indeed, there’s a good chance it’ll get a different name by the time it reaches cinema.

It has moved a step closer to getting made though, as Variety reports that Rob Letterman has signed on to direct. To be honest, his back catalogue causes a little trepidation too, as the likes of Shark Tale, Gulliver’s Travels, and Goosebumps aren’t exactly masterpieces.

Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch wroted the script for the movie, which its believed Legendary Pictures wants to get made as quickly as possible, to hopefully capitalise on the renewed popularity of the franchise following the release of the Pokemon Go app.
