A Series of Unfortunate Events Trailer – Neil Patrick Harris wants three orphans’ fortune

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

series-of-unfortunate-eventsWhile in his real-life Neil Patrick Harris has done huge amounts in showing there’s no problem with gay people raising children, in Netflix’s new series based on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, he’ll be proving there are some people who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near them. We can now get our best look at him yet with a new trailer for the show.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the internationally best-selling series of books, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events chronicles the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire after their parents’ untimely death in a fire. A careless oversight initially places the children in the custody of a distant relative named Count Olaf, a mysterious and devious figure who is seeking fortune by way of stealing their inheritance. After his elaborate plans are foiled and his evil intentions are revealed, Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) employs a variety of outlandish disguises to situate himself in the children’s path, causing mayhem for the Baudelaire’s and their subsequent guardians.  As the children manage to evade Count Olaf’s scheming attempts to steal their fortune, they pick up clues along the way about their parents’ past.’

Barry Sonnenfeld (Men In Black) is directing the first episode of the series, which is currently shooting Vancouver. It’ll debut on Netflix in January. [Read more…]

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

la-la-land-festival-poster-slideThere are a lot of people who think La La Land will be in the mix come Oscar time, and it’s certainly one of the more interesting movies coming out in the next few months. It’s an original musical, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and director by Whiplash’s Damien Chazelle.

Now one of the film’s songs has been released to give us a taste for the movie. Take a look below to see Gosling and Stone singing City Of Stars, plus a new US trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

Emilia Clarke Takes The Female Lead Role In Han Solo Star Wars Spinoff Movie

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

emilia-clarkeBack in May it was revealed that Alden Ehrenreich will be the young Han Solo in the planned Star Wars spin-off about the character’s adventures before A New Hope. At the time it was mentioned that the makers were looking for the movie’s female lead, who was said to play a massive part in the film.

It’s taken them a while, but now it’s been revealed that Game Of Thrones and Terminator Genisys’ Emilia Clarke has taken the role. It was reported earlier this month, that Clarke was on a list that also included the likes of Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz, and Naomi Scott. However, now Disney has said it’s definitely going to be Clarke.

What hasn’t been revealed is anything about the character. Some have speculated it will be Sana Starros, who in the comics was revealed to be Han’s wife from before he met Leia. However, when Disney bought Lucasfilm they decided everything outside the main movies would no longer be canon (they are now referred to as ‘Legends’) and so there’s a very good chance it will be a completely new character we’ve never met before.

The Han Solo movie is set for release May 2018.

Matthew McConnaughey May Be White Boy Rick

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Matthew-McConaugheyMatthew McConaughey will fairly soon be seen as the Man In Black in the long-gestating adaption of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, but he’s also planning something a little different. Variety reports he’s in talks to start in White Boy Rick.

Logan Miller and Noah Miller wrote the script, which landed on the Black List of the best unproduced screenplays last year. The movie is based on the true story ‘of Richard Wershe Jr., the only successful white boy gangster/drug kingpin in an African American dominated 1980’s Detroit ghetto. Wershe received a mandatory life sentence after being caught with 17 pounds of cocaine in 1987. He was 17 at the time.’

Obviously McConnaughey would be Wershe, instead he’d play the young man’s salesman father. Yann Demange is set to direct, with plans to starting filming the movie next March in Michigan and Ohio.

Marc Forster To Helm Live-Action Winnie the Pooh Movie Christopher Robin

November 19, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

marc-forster-quantum-of-solaceAmongst the ever-growing list of their classic properties that Disney wants to turn live-action is Christopher Robin, which will bring Winnie The Pooh, Tigger and co. out of the animated and literary world and into a CGI/live mix. Now the film has a director, with Marc Forster tapped to helm the movie according to THR.

Forster has had a fairly loe profile in the last couple of years, as while his last movie, World War Z, ended up a hit, he got rolled over the coals for the movie’s behind-the-scene chaos, and was eventually pushed to one side. However, he does have the likes of Monster’s Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction and Quantum Of Solace to his credit (although the less about that last one the better).

THR reports that the movie, ‘centers on [Christopher] Robin, the adult version of the boy who in the A.A. Milne books shares his adventures with the animals of the Hundred Acre Wood. Robin has grown out of the joyful imagination he had as a young boy and is now a businessman who prioritizes work over his wife and daughter. With his home life on the brink, the last thing his life needs is the return of Pooh, who needs his help in finding his friends again. Robin has to find a way to help both sides or risk losing everything he holds dear.

‘The project is described as having strong elements of magical realism as it seeks to tell an emotional journey that is combined with a heartwarming adventure.’

It’s one of those reinterpretations that could be great or a complete disaster, but we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed. Alex Ross Perry is writing the script.

Monster Trucks Trailer – Lucas Till gets a weird creature under his bonnet

November 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

monster-trucks-poster-slideMonster Trucks has been hanging around for a while, and the studio behind it has so little faith they’ve already written of a multi-million dollar loss on it. However, they’ve nevertheless given it a prime December 26th release date, in the hope of enticing kids while they’re out of school.

But while it may not be the hit they were originally hoping for, it does look bizarre enough that it might not be too bad.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Looking for any way to get away from the life and town he was born into, Tripp (Lucas Till), a high school senior, builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site displaces a strange and subterranean creature with a taste and a talent for speed, Tripp may have just found the key to getting out of town and a most unlikely friend.

‘Melding cutting edge visual effects and state-of-the-art CGI, Monster Trucks is an action filled adventure for the whole family that will keep you on the edge of your seat and ultimately touch your heart.’ [Read more…]

Kong: Skull Island Trailer – Tom Hiddleston & Brie Larson find a big ape & a world of monsters

November 17, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

kong-skull-island-poster1-slideA few months ago we got a Comic Con trailer for Kong: Skull Island, which showed us plenty of things, but not much of the giant ape himself, Kong. However, that’s now been remedied with a new, final trailer, which has much more of the infamous simian, along with a variety of the the other creatures on the island, from gargantuan spiders to strange dinsosaur-like nasties.

You can watch the trailer and see a couple of new posters below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Kong: Skull Island” reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

‘“Kong: Skull Island” stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Oscar winner Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly. The international ensemble cast also includes Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero. Vogt-Roberts directs the film from a screenplay by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy and Derek Connolly. “Kong: Skull Island” is produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni with Mary Parent. The executive producers are Eric McLeod and Alex Garcia. Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, “Kong: Skull Island.”

‘The film will be released worldwide in 2D, 3D in select theatres, and IMAX in March 2017, from Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.’ [Read more…]

Transformers: The Last Knight Featurette – First look at Michael Bay’s latest dose of robots & explosions

November 16, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

transformers-last-knight-featuretteIs there really much point us writing anything about a new Transformers movie? By now everyone who even vaguely cares knows exactly what they’re going to get. That said, they have promised this one will be a little different, with redesigned Autobot and Decepticons, but with Michael Bay still at the helm, it’s still gonna be pretty much what we expected.

He have now got our first look at the movie though, with Paramount releasing a behind the scenes featurette to talk about the film’s partnership with IMAX.

The film has a mix of old and new, with veterans Mark Wahlbers, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro and Tyrese Gibson being joined by the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Laura Haddock. Not much is known about the plot, other than it somehow brings together the robots with King Arthur, Nazis and new dinobots, with Optimus Prime needing to find an artifact on Earth that may be able to bring Cybertron back to life.
