Steven Soderbergh Planning Panama Papers Movie

July 7, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

steven-soderberghFor several years, Traffic, Magic Mike and Ocean’s 11 helmer Steven Soderbergh kept saying he was going to retire from directing, but never quite seemed to manage it. However, after Behind the Candelabra he suggested he really was done, before directing loads of episodes of TV’s The Knick.

Now it looks like he’s going cinematic again, as Variety reports he’s working on a movie surrounding the recently released Panama Papers. The movie will be based on Jake Bernsteins, upcoming book “The Secrecy World. Berstein was a senior reporter on the team that broke the Panama Papers story.

Secrecy World is ‘an account of the leak of 11 million documents from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca about dubious global financial transactions. The Panama Papers were leaked by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and provided details of how the wealthy and powerful used the law firm to escape scrutiny.’

It’s no known when the movie might go into production.

Michelle Williams May Join Barnum Biopic Greatest Showman On Earth

July 6, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Michelle-Williams-slideHugh Jackman has been working on the musical PT Barnum biopic Greatest Showman On Earth for a long time, but it’s only now that it’s finally moving towards shooting. They’re currently busy filling out the cast, with Zac Efron starting negotiations to appear a couple of weeks ago.

Now THR reports that Michelle Williams is also in talks for the movie. Williams has previously shown off hr singing skills in Dawson’s Creek, My Week With Marilyn and on Broadway in Cabaret, so she’s certainly had plenty of practice for a movie musical.

The film will life of Barnum, who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. The story will also look at his pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind (the role that presumably Williams is in talks for). It’s not clear who Efron would play.

Michael Gracey is attached to direct. The project has been in the works for over five years, but apparently Fox has now made is a priority, partly because they know what a passion project it is for Jackman.

Trolls Trailer – Anna Kendrick & Justin Timberlake help the 70s fad get animated

June 29, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Trolls-Teaser-QuadIn the old days it was just book and TV shows that had a shot of being turned into movies, but now Hollywood has realised the pretty much anything is fair game, as long as it’s something that was popular at some point. Trolls, though, is an odd one, as there are plenty of kids around now whose parents are too young to remember the fuzzy haired figures’ heyday in the 70s. Admittedly though back then they were so popular that no youngster could expect to be seen as cool without a Troll pencil topper.

However, Dreamworks Animation isn’t letting the fact they were most popular 40-years-ago to stand in their way, and have now released a full trailer for their Trolls movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘DreamWorks’ TROLLS is a hair-raising comedy filled with unbelievable adventure and incredible music.  Known for their crazy, colourful, and magical hair, Trolls are the happiest, most joyous creatures ever to burst into song. But their world of rainbows and cupcakes is changed forever, when their leader Poppy (Anna Kendrick,) must embark on a rescue mission that takes her far beyond the only world she’s ever known.’

The voice cast also features Justin Timberlake, James Corden, Kunal Nayyar, Gwen Stefani, Russell Brand, and Ron Founts. It’ll be in UK cinemas in October. [Read more…]
