Suicide Squad Gets Some Crazy New Character Posters

June 24, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

suicide-squad-character-poster8-slideWhile there are a lot of people excited about Suicide Squad, it’s one of the big unknowns of the summer, and it’s likely that after seeing these new character posters, a lot of people still won’t know what to think. What it certainly continues to do is suggest this isn’t going to be a typical comic book movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From director David Ayer (“Fury,” “End of Watch”) comes “Suicide Squad,” starring Oscar nominee Will Smith (“Ali,” “The Pursuit of Happyness”), Oscar winner Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Focus”), Joel Kinnaman (“Run All Night,” “The Killing”) and Oscar nominee Viola Davis (“The Help,” “Doubt”).

‘It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

‘Written and directed by Ayer based on the characters from DC Comics, the film also stars Jai Courtney (“Insurgent”), Jay Hernandez (“Takers”), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (“Thor: The Dark World”), Ike Barinholtz (“Neighbors”), Scott Eastwood (“Fury”), Cara Delevingne (“Paper Towns”), Adam Beach (“Cowboys & Aliens”), and Karen Fukuhara in her feature film debut. It is produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, with Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.’

The film will be in cinemas in August. [Read more…]

June 20, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

miss-peregrine-character-poster1-slideFrom the look of this trailer, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children may see Tim Burton back in proper Tim Burton-y form, bringing a touch of gothic to a strange tale. It certainly looks like it might be pretty entertaining.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. When his beloved grandfather leaves Jake clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, he finds a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers…and their powerful enemies. Ultimately, Jake discovers that only his own special “peculiarity” can save his new friends.

David Brent: Life On The Road Trailer – Ricky Gervais returns to his Office creation

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

david-brent-life-on-the-roadDavid Brent in The Office is certainly a love him or loath him figure, although there are plenty out there who love him enough that a movie based around the character is likely to find plenty of interest. That’s good for Ricky Gervais, who’s back in Brent mode for Life On The Road.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘DAVID BRENT: LIFE ON THE ROAD sees the highly anticipated big screen debut of one of comedy’s best-loved characters, David Brent (Ricky Gervais). The film catches up with Brent twelve years on from the BBC mockumentary ‘The Office’ to find he is now a travelling salesman with Lavichem, a cleaning and ladies’ personal hygiene products company. However, he hasn’t given up on his dream of rock stardom and is about to embark on a self-financed UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’.

‘Assembling a group of session musicians who are just in it for the money, and talented rapper Dom (Ben Bailey Smith) in an attempt to gain street cred, Brent cashes in his pensions and takes unpaid leave in a bid to turn his dream into reality. Get ready to join David Brent on the road as he takes one last shot at fame and fortune.’

The film’s due out in the UK in August. [Read more…]

I, Daniel Blake Trailer – Take a look at Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or Winner

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

i-daniel-blake-slideKen Loach has been making socially conscious cinema since the 1960s, and he’s had a huge amount of critical success, particularly at Cannes, which have given two of his movies the Palm d’Or, with numerous other prizes bestowed there on his movies. His latest Palm d’Or cam just last month for I, Daniel Blake, which has now released a trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Daniel Blake (59) has worked as a joiner most of his life in Newcastle. Now, for the first time ever, he needs help from the State. He crosses paths with single mother Katie and her two young children, Daisy and Dylan. Katie’s only chance to escape a one-roomed homeless hostel in London has been to accept a flat in a city she doesn’t know, some 300 miles away.

‘Daniel and Katie find themselves in no-man’s land, caught on the barbed wire of welfare bureaucracy as played out against the rhetoric of ‘striver and skiver’ in modern-day Britain.’

The film will be released in the UK in October. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Wicked Movie Finally Gets A Release Date

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

wicked-stage-slideFor almost as long as it’s been playing on Broadway, a film version of the hit musical Wicked has been in the works. However, for most of that time it’s been trapped in development hell. With musicals tending to have a mixed record at the cinemas, it’s believed executives at Universal were nervous about making such an expensive musical movie.

It also didn’t help when Disney made Oz The Great And Powerful, which delayed the Wicked movie while they judged whether that film would mean people wouldn’t want another Oz movie. But while the adaptation has had major issues, Universal has never given up on it.

Now, it finally looks like they’re getting serious, as a December 20th, 2019, release date has been set. It’s still early days though, as while it has a director in the form of Stephen Daldry, there’s no cast attached as yet. However, giving it a release date at least signifies they’re getting really serious about bringing the musical to the screen.

Lady Gaga In Talks For Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born Remake

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

lady-gagaThe idea of once more remaking A Star Is Born (it’ll be the third or fourth remake, depending on how you count) has been around a long time, and has been through a long list of actors and directors. It’s still alive, with Bradley Cooper planning to both helm and star in the movie.

What he hasn’t had is a female lead. Beyonce was attached for a long time, but she’s since dropped out. THR reports Cooper may have found another top chanteuse to replace her, as Lady Gaga is rerportedly in talks to join the movie.

A Star Is Born follows  a young woman with dreams of a singing career who meets a famous actor. However as her career rises, his self-destructs thanks to his alcoholism. It’s previously been filmed in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March (which itself was technically a remake), 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason starring, and 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Martin Starr & Logan Marshall-Green Join Spider-Man: Homecoming

Logan Marshall-Green in Dark-Blue

Logan Marshall-Green in Dark-Blue

The cast for Spider-Man: Homecoming is coming together quickly now, with Tom Holland being joined by the likes of Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Kenneth Choi, Michael Barbieri, Tony Revolori, and Laura Harrier over the last few months. Robert Downey Jr. is also set to reprise his Iron Man role. Now a couple more have joined the throng, with Martin Starr & Logan Marshall-Green signing up.

It’s not known exactly who they will play, but THR suggests Prometheus’ Marshall Green will be a villain, alongside Keaton’s main bad guy. Starr’s role is a complete mystery.

Indeed, Sony has been keeping most details about the plot close to it’s chest, as we don’t even know who the main villain will be, although it’s rumoured Keaton will be Vulture. Jon Watts is directing the movie, which starts shooting soon for released July 2017.

Zac Efron In Talks For P.T. Barnum Biopic The Greatest Showman On Earth

June 18, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bad-neighbours-2-zac-efron-shirtlessFor the past couple of years Zac Efron has mainly been trapped in grossout comedy and rom-com land, but now he’s in talks for something a little different, the long gestating P.T. Barnum Biopic The Greatest Showman On Earth, according to Variety. Hugh Jackman is still attached to play the lead role.

The Greatest Showman On Earth is envisioned as a musical about the life of Barnum, who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. The story will also look at his pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind. It’s not clear who Efron would play.

Michael Gracey is attached to direct. The project has been in the works for over five years, but apparently Fox has now made is a priority, partly because they know what a passion project it is for Hackman.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Teaser – Tom Cruise isn’t taking any crap once more

June 15, 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jack-reacher-never-go-back-slideWhile many disliked the idea of Tom Cruise being cast as Lee Child’s anti-hero, Jack Reacher, the movie itself turned out to be surprisingly good. It was successful enough that a sequel is on its way, which has just released its first teaser.

The film is based on Never Look Back, the latest of the Jack Reacher novels. It sees Jack return to his old military base in Virginia, where he is set to take the new female commanding officer out to dinner. However he discovers that she has been arrested, and Jack is also facing charges of assaulting a man and fathering a child. Reacher has no recollection of any of these things happening, which understandably starts him looking into what has been going on.

Cobie Smulders, Holt McCallany, Robert Knepper, Aldis Hodge. Take a look at the teaser from ET below. [Read more…]
