First Proper Look At Disney’s Animated Zootopia

June 10, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

zootopia-character-pic1This year we’re getting two Pixar films, but to make room for that Disney animation has no big summer or autumn movie this year, but they’re gearing up for a March 2016 release on Zootopia.

While there’s been some concept art released before, now Disney has brought us the first proper picture of the two main characters, a fox and a rabbit, which, as you can probably tell, live in a highly anthropomorphised world.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.’

hugh-jackman-x-men-days-of-future-past-slideIt always helps to sell a script in Hollywood is it comes with come big names attached, and that probably aided Collateral Beauty, which has been picked up by Palmstar Media, with Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara already set to start, according to Variety.

There’s also a director onboard, with Me and Earl and the Dying Girl helmer Alfonso Gomez-Rejon attached.

The movie ‘follows a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. When his colleagues devise an unconventional plan to break him out of his depression, the plan works, but not in a way that anyone imagined.’

It’s due to shoot this autumn.

Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Trailer – Katniss is going to war

June 9, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

mockingjay-part-2-pic1-slideFor the first bit of this Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 trailer it seems things are going surprisingly well for Katniss and her allies. However it should come as no surprise to discover that doesn’t last long and soon the war that Part 1 promised is in full swing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.’

The Martian Trailer – Let’s bring Matt Damon home!

June 8, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The-Martian-Teaser-poster1The Martian may be a sci-fi movie above, but the poster above looks just as much like a call to action for the women and gay men who go week at the needs at the sight of Matt Damon. I’m sure they’d be more than will to help rescue him from the Red Planet.

Here’s the synopsis: During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, Watney must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

‘Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover.’

The movie is due out later this year. [Read more…]

No Escape Trailer – Owen Wilson and his family are on the run in Asia

no-escape-quadOwen Wilson is most closely associated with comedy, but he’s trying something a little more dramatic and action-packed with No Escape.

New Southpaw Trailer – Jake Gyllenhaal beefs up and gets into the ring

June 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

southpaw-poster1After getting skinny for the excellent Nightcrawler, Jake Gyllenhaal has been hitting the gym massively and beefed up to the max for the boxing drama Southpaw. Now a new trailer has arrived, which you can watch below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From acclaimed director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY) and starring Academy Award® nominated Jake Gyllenhaal (NIGHTCRAWLER, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN) comes a story of tragedy, loss and the painful road to redemption… Billy “The Great” Hope (Gyllenhaal) is the reigning Junior Middleweight Champion whose unorthodox stance, the so-called “Southpaw,” consists of an ineloquent, though brutal, display of offensive fighting…one fueled by his own feelings of inadequacy and a desperate need for love, money and fame. With a beautiful family, home and financial security, Billy is on top both in and out of the ring until a tragic accident leaves his wife dead and sends him into a downward spiral.

‘His days now an endless haze of alcohol and prescription drugs, his daughter taken by Child Services and his home repossessed by the bank, Billy’s fate is all but sealed until a washed up former boxer named Tick agrees to take the bereaved pugilist under his wing so long as he agrees to his strict ethos. Relentless and utterly committed to a fighter that thinks as much as he throws punches, Tick rebuilds Billy into a new man: one that is agile, fearsome and uncompromising in the ring while thoughtful, loving and disciplined outside of it. Now, as he works to regain custody of his daughter and mounts a professional comeback, Billy must face his demons head-on as he learns that, sometimes, your greatest opponent can be yourself.’

The film hits cinemas in July. [Read more…]

Bridge Of Spies Trailer – Spielberg takes on the Cold War with Tom Hanks

June 7, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

bridge-of-spies-poster1Steven Spielberg is getting serious once more, this time reteaming with Tom Hanks to take on a tale of the Cold War and the precarious situation between the US and Russia in the 1960s.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A dramatic thriller set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, DreamWorks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures’ “Bridge of Spies” tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot. Screenwriters Matt Charman and Ethan Coen & Joel Coen have woven this remarkable experience in Donovan’s life into a story inspired by true events that captures the essence of a man who risked everything and vividly brings his personal journey to life.

‘Directed by three-time Academy Award®-winning director Steven Spielberg, “Bridge of Spies” stars: two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as James Donovan; three-time Tony Award® winner Mark Rylance as Rudolf Abel, a KGB agent defended by Donovan; Scott Shepherd as CIA operative Hoffman; Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan as James’ wife, Mary; Sebastian Koch as East German lawyer Vogel; and Academy Award nominee Alan Alda as Thomas Watters, a partner at Donovan’s law firm. The film is produced by Spielberg, Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King serving as executive producers. The screenplay is by Matt Charman and three-time Academy Award winners Ethan Coen & Joel Coen.’

Z For Zachariah Trailer – Margot Robbie, Chris Pine & Chiwetel Ejiofor go post-nuclear

June 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

z-for-zachariah-posterFor many years Z For Zachariah was a staple of school classroom, but it’s only now, long after the nuclear fears that ignited it, that it’s coming to the big screen. And a few changes have been made, not least upping the age of the female lead character to avoid the slight creepy edge of the relationship between a teen girl and a grown man in Robert C. O’Brien’s book.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman (Margot Robbie) survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist (Chiwetel Ejiofor), he’s nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger (Chris Pine) enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel.’

The film will be out in the US in August, but no UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Everest Trailer – Jake Gyllenhaal, Sam Worthington & Jason Clarke head for the Himalayas

June 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

everest-poster1Following the recent tragedy on Everest caused by the Nepal earthquake, the marketing for San Andreas was deliberately toned down. You have to imagine there were a lot of serious conversations about this one, which is based on the true story of the greatest disaster to hit the mountain until this year.

This first trailer certainly highlights the danger while saying little about the tragedy, and the synopsis glosses over it too.

Here it is: ‘Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival. The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.’

The film is out in UK Cinemas 24th September. [Read more…]

New The Walk Trailer – Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a high wire act for Robert Zemeckis

June 4, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

the-walk-slideFor a very long time Robert Zemeckis was a many who couldn’t do anything without special effects, but more recently with Flight it looked like he was calming down. However with The Walk it appears he’s back to using effects to try and give a story a grander scale than it might otherwise have had.

And that’s certainly clear in this rather cool new trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Twelve people have walked on the moon, but only one man – Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – has ever, or will ever, walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. Guided by his real-life mentor, Papa Rudy (Ben Kingsley), and aided by an unlikely band of international recruits, Petit and his gang overcome long odds, betrayals, dissension and countless close calls to conceive and execute their mad plan. Robert Zemeckis, the director of such marvels as Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Back to the Future, Polar Express and Flight, again uses cutting edge technology in the service of an emotional, character-driven story. With innovative photorealistic techniques and IMAX 3D wizardry, The Walk is true big-screen cinema, a chance for moviegoers to viscerally experience the feeling of reaching the clouds. The film, a PG-rated, all-audience entertainment for moviegoers 8 to 80, unlike anything audiences have seen before, is a love letter to Paris and New York City in the 1970s, but most of all, to the Towers of the World Trade Center.’

The film opens this autumn. [Read more…]
