Will Ferrell Plans To Get Shakespearean (Sort Of) In A New Comedy

December 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

will-ferrellFew people would think of Will Ferrell as being someone you’d cast in a great Shakespearean role, and he seems to agree, as he’s set to star in a comedy where he’ll send up that idea, according to Variety.

Sony Pictures has acquired the currently untitled pitch from Mosaic, with Will Ferrell set to star. David Guion and Michael Handelman will write the screenplay, which is set in the apparently highly-competitive world of a Shakespearean theatre company.

Now much more is known about the plot than that, but you can certainly see Ferrell having fun being over the top in some of Shakespeare’s greatest roles (I’m imagining Ron Burgundy meets Laurence Olivier)

Terminator Genisys Gets A Living Poster

December 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Terminator-Genisys-cast-picAfter Jurassic World and Star Wars, another of the movies bidding to be a 2015 blockbuster has announced that its trailer is coming soon, and they’ve done it with a ‘living’ poster, which you can see below. The trailer itself meanwhile should be with us in Thursday.

A previous reported, the film ‘is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.’

Although that sounds pretty much like the original, things have changed as in this version Sarah Connor ‘was orphaned by a Terminator at age 9. Since then, she’s been raised by (brace yourself) Schwarzenegger’s Terminator—an older T-800 she calls “Pops”—who is programmed to guard rather than to kill. As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.’

The movie is due out July 2015. [Read more…]

Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks Trailer – Cheyenne Jackson wants Gena Rowlands to dance

December 2, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

six-dance-lessons-slideIt’s not 100% clear whether the film version of Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks will retain the full LGBT themes of the play it’s based on, but with Cheyenne Jackson as one of the co-leads and gay icons such as Rita Moreno in the cast, it’s probably going to be worth a look either way. The trailer certainly makes it seems fun.

Based on the international hit play by Richard Alfieri which has played in 24 countries and in 14 languages, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks is a touching and human, yet madcap comedy about a formidable retired woman, Lily Harrison (Gena Rowlands), who hires an acerbic dance instructor, Michael Minetti (Cheyenne Jackson), to give her private dance lessons – one per week for six weeks – in her gulf-front condo in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida.

What begins as an incompatible relationship blossoms into an intimate friendship as these two people from very different backgrounds reveal their secrets, fears, and joys while dancing the Swing, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha-Cha, and Contemporary Dance. By the final lesson, Lily shares her most closely guarded secret and he shares his greatest gifts, his loyalty and compassion.

In the original play, some of the tension comes from the fact there’s an antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister, although it’s not clear if that follows through in the movie (looking at the trailer there’s a good chance).

Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks is a comedy with music and dance about friendship and ageism and also stars Julian Sands, Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver, and Oscar winner Rita Moreno and is directed by Arthur Allan Seidelman.

The movie arrives in select US cinemas on December 12th, 2014. [Read more…]

In Their Room Trailer – Travis Mathews’ triptych of intimate and explicit films get brought together (NSFW)

November 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

in-their-room-berlinIn the last couple of years Travis Mathews has gained a lot of attention for I Want Your Love and his collaboration with James Franco, Interior Leather Bar. However the first thing that put him on many people’s radar was his In The Room project, which started as a set of individual looks at gay men in San Francisco, filmed in their bedroom, before those were edited together into a single longer documentary.

The success of that led to follow-ups, with the action moving to Berlin and then London. Although they’ve had plenty of acclaim and have screened at numerous film festivals, they still haven’t been seen by that many people. However now they’re being brought together and released on DVD in the UK on December 8th.

Each of the three films features footage of a variety of gay men in their rooms, talking about their lives, hopes and dreams, and also a lot about their relationship with sex and what they want in guys. It’s incredibly intimate and as Travis has become known for, some of it is extremely explicit.

Take a look at the NSFW trailer below. [Read more…]

Eastern Boys Trailer – Love story and thriller comes together in the gay-themed film

November 29, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Eastern-Boys-QuadFrom Robin Campillo the celebrated writer of Palm d’Or winner The Class  and creator of The Returned, comes his highly acclaimed second dramatic feature film, the thriller Eastern Boys. Peccadillo Pictures releases the film in the UK on December 5th, so it’s the perfect time to take a look at the trailer.

In Eastern Boys, Daniel cruises the Gare du Nord where Eastern European Boys hang out. One afternoon he plucks up his courage to speak to Marek, one of the boys and invites him to his home. However, next day when the doorbell rings, Daniel hasn’t the faintest idea that he has fallen into a trap.

If you’d like a little more than just the movie, Robin Campillo will be present for a live Q&A at Curzon Soho on Friday 5th December and then Hackney Picturehouse on Saturday 6th. Take a look at the trailer below and check back in few days for our review of the film. [Read more…]

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer – Back to a galaxy far, far away

November 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-force-awakens-pic4-slideWhile there was a brief moment where it looked liked you’d have to go to one of a few select cinemas to see the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, it’s not being that picky, as the teaser has been posted online and you can watch it below.

It’s a lot of fun, doing a great job of seeming like something new and fresh, while also being firmly set in the Star Wars universe and trading in a bit of nostalgia. And interestingly, while Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia will return, the trailer doesn’t show anything of them, with the main classic ‘character’ being the Millennium Falcon.

The film will hit cinemas December 2015, but expect the hype to go mental long before then.

Is A John Gielgud Written Gay Porn Movie Going To Go Into Production?

November 28, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

john-gielgudIn one of the more unlikely stories of the year, it appears that 14 years after he died, Oscar-winning actor may become a screenwriter. However while Gielgud was known for his Shakespearean roles on stage and for starring in the likes of The Elephant Man, Arthur and Gandhi, his script that may go into production is for a gay porn film.

The Guardian reports the news, saying the Gielgud originally wrote the script for ‘grandfather of gay porn’ Peter De Rome to make. De Rome started making erotic 8mm films in the 1960s for his friends, but they found a larger audience during the ‘porn chic’ era when several of them were gathered together into a collection released in cinemas.

In recent years his contribution to both gay porn and gay cinema has started to be appreciated, such as the BFI’s release of The Erotic Films Of Peter De Rome, and the documentary Peter De Rome: The Grandfather Of Gay Porn. He sadly died in June.

Gielgud was amongst the director’s friend, and according to Peter De Rome: The Grandfather Of Gay Porn producer, David McGillivray, “Peter de Rome knew everybody when he was working, including John Gielgud, and John was so impressed with Peter’s work – which of course was porn – that he wrote Peter a screenplay. Nobody knows anything about this script, it’s not in the John Gielgud letters, it’s not mentioned in the biographies, it’s an unknown script. John Gielgud’s only screenplay. So next year, we are going to make that.

“It’s called Trouser Bar. John Gielgud was obsessed with trousers, loved corduroy and leather. And so he wrote a film set in a menswear shop.”

Kristen Bjorn, known as the director of a more traditional type of gay porn than De Rome’s sexy but idiosyncratic efforts, is set to helm Trouser Bar.

There are issues though, as McGillivray says, “The John Gielgud estate is furious. They won’t let us do it, but they don’t have a leg to stand on. So they’re going to be very upset about this, but we’ve got the BFI behind us.” (However it should be noted that the BFI says they’re not involved in the movie).

Gielgud never actually came out, but by the end of his life it was commonly known that he was gay. He had actually been prosecuted for ‘lewd acts’ in 1953 after being caught cruising in a Chelsea public toilet. However rather than ruining his career, the incident was hidden away and few people knew about it while the actor’s career continued to flourish over the following decades.

Cake Trailer – Jennifer Aniston gets serious for an indie drama

November 26, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-aniston-cakeAlthough we’ve got used to Jennifer Aniston popping up in Hollywood comedies, she’s actually done some really good work in the indie realm, although not for quite a few years. However now she’s back with the indie drama Cake, which is already giving her some excellent buzz.

The impressive cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Chris Messina, and Adriana Barazza.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Claire Simmons (Jennifer Aniston) is in pain. Her physical pain is evident in the scars that line her body and the way she carries herself, wincing with each tentative step. She’s no good at hiding her emotional pain either. Blunt to the point of searing insult, Claire’s anger seethes out of her with nearly every interaction. She has driven away her husband, her friends — even her chronic-pain support group has kicked her out.

‘The only one left in Claire’s otherwise solitary existence is her housekeeper-cum-caretaker, Silvana (Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza), who barely tolerates her boss’ need for liquor and prescription pills. But the suicide of Nina (Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick), one of Claire’s fellow chronic-pain group members, prompts another fixation. In pursuing questions about the death of a woman she barely knew, Claire explores the boundaries between life and death, abandonment and heartbreak, danger and salvation. As she inserts herself into the lives of Nina’s husband (Sam Worthington) and the son Nina left behind, Claire just might find salvation.’ [Read more…]
