First Pics Of Aaron Paul & Dominic Cooper In Need For Speed Arrive

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

need-for-speed-pic1
You might expect that the first pics from a motor-head movie like Need For Speed would show off the cars, but instead EW have debuts images giving us a look at Aaron Paul, Kid Cudi, Dominic Cooper and Dakota Johnson in the movie.

Based on the videogame series, Aaron Paul stars as an underground race car driver who owns a shop that modifies sports cars for racing. He is framed for the murder of his best friend, who died during a race, and upon his release from prison he seeks revenge. Dominic Cooper plays a former NASCAR driver who now owns a high-end shop that rebuilds race cars, while Imogen Poots is an exotic car dealer who works with both Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper’s characters. Scott Waugh directs with a February 2014 release set.

Aaron Paul says, ”This set was different than anything I’ve been on. You’re walking through a very thick cloud of testosterone. It’s really a throwback to the Steve McQueen era of car movies. I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised.”

On the characters, he adds, ”Dominic is kind of the antagonist of the film. Dakota is my character’s ex, and now Dominic ‘s character is the new guy she’s seeing.”

Joel Kinnaman Say It’s ‘Your Move’ In The First RoboCop Remake Poster

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

robocop-2012-poster1
A few days ago we got the first trailer for the new version of Robocop, and now that’s been followed up by a poster, which harks back to the original and the classic quote, ‘Your move, creep.’

Here’s the official plot synopsis: ‘In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.’

Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton and Abbie Cornish co-star, with Jose Padhila directing. It’ll be in cinemas next February.

Ben Affleck’s Batman Will Be Tired and Weary In Man Of Steel 2

September 13, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-affleckWarner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara is having a busy time. Yesterday he helped announce an extension of the Harry Potter franchise, and now he’s been speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference. During the speech, he got around to talking about Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight in Man of Steel 2.

It certainly seems like they won’t be going over the character’s origins yet again, with Tsujihara saying,”[He will be] tired and weary and seasoned and [he’s] been doing it for awhile.

He also addres the casting of Ben Affleck, which caused a lot of controversy on the Internet when it was announced last month,”[He is] perfect. We think it’s going to be huge. [The studio] could not be happier. We think it’s the perfect springboard for Batman and Superman”

Kevin Tsujihara added that a lot of announcements are expected to come out of the DC Comics’ unit at Warner Bros soon, suggesting they’re finally trying to properly rival Marvel’s success on the big screen.

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Djimon-hounsouGladiator, Constantine and Amistad actor Djimon Hounsou is an amazing actor, and it’s always seemed a bit of a shame he hasn’t gotten the credit he deserves – although he’s undoubtedly the most successful actor to ever come out of Benin.

He’ll star alongside Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, with Jason Statham joining as Ian Shaw, the brother of Fast & Furious 6 villain, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). JK Rowling To Script Harry Potter Spin-Off, Based on Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

September 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jk-rowlingHarry Potter was the highest grossing movie franchise in history, taking in more cash than James Bond, Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings. However JK Rowling only wrote seven books and so it had to come to an end – well, at least the tale of Potter himself did.

Now Warner Bros. has announced they’re re-teaming with J.K. Rowling, who will write her first movie screenplay, which will be based in the world of Harry Potter, even if it takes place far from Hogwarts. The movie will be inspired by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by the fictitious Newt Scamander, which was one of Harry’s school textbook.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be an original story and is planned as the first picture in a new film series. It will follow Scamander and his the creatures he tracks down.

Rowling commented, “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world. The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

In addition to the film series, Fantastic Beasts will also be developed across the Studio’s video game, consumer products and digital initiatives businesses, including enhanced links with Pottermore.com, Rowling’s digital online experience built around the Harry Potter stories. It’s certainly planned as a bit of a cash cow for both Rowling and Warner Bros. but if it’s as fun as the Potter series, there will probably be few complaints.

Rowling’s further commented, “It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult. Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter’ fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood.

As I considered Warners’ proposal, an idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.”

Dear Dad: Letters From Same-Gender-Loving Sons Trailer – Watch the complete, moving feature-length LGBT documentary

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chase Simmons recently completed Dear Dad, a documentary that certainly looks like it’ll be worth watching. The idea behind the movie is that eight black gay/same-gender-loving men write open letters to their fathers, revealing their highs and low, along with the pain, happiness and their hope for the future.

Simmons has been talking to Huffpo about the film, saying, “As a black same-gender-loving man, I know how difficult it can be to forge a real relationship with your father. I’ve struggled with it myself. In my own experience there is often an immediate disconnect once your sexuality is mentally acknowledged, and that gap just gets wider and wider over time. That led me to think about how I’ve struggled to forge real relationships with other SGL men, romantic or platonic. Then I started to think about how I struggled to maintain connections with the heterosexual men in my life after coming out, especially black heterosexual men. Those thoughts looped me back to the first black heterosexual man that I knew, my dad. So I felt like there was a lot of potential in hearing these stories.”

Take a look at the trailer above. You can read more from Simmons over at Huffpo, and find out about the movie itself on its website. [Read more…]

Bill Nighy, Paddy Considine & Dominic West Take On Gay Miners’ Strike Film, Pride

September 11, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Paddy-ConsidineIn the past, it was quite common for groups of people protesting about different things to come to the aid of each other. Now Matthew Warchus, who’s best known as a theatre director, is planning a movie called Pride about a group of gay activists called ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’, who decide to raise money to help the families of British miners who were striking in the summer of 1984.

The cast is fast coming together, with Bill Nighy, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine & Andrew Scott (Sherlock’s Moriarty), set to star.

The film follows the activists, who after raising the cash, discovers the National Union Of Miners is rather embarrased to accept money from a bunch of queer. Not put off, they decide to travel to a Welsh mining community to hand out the cash personally.

Gay Star News quotes Warchus as saying, “This was a script I just couldn’t say no to. It made me laugh out loud, it surprised and delighted me at every turn, and it ultimately moved me to tears. It’s a truly affirming and inspiring story, funny, honest and moving, and by the end of it you want to punch the air and cheer.”

Stephen Beresford wrote the script, with the current plan being to start shooting next month in London and Wales. There’s no news on exactly who the actors will play.
