Before You Know It Trailer – New documentary looks at LGBT pensioners

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Synopsis: The subjects of Before You Know It are no ordinary senior citizens. They are go-go booted bar-hoppers, love struck activists, troublemaking baton twirlers, late night Internet cruisers, seasoned renegades and bold adventurers. They are also among the estimated 2.4 million lesbian, gay and bisexual Americans over the age of 55 in the United States, many of whom face heightened levels of discrimination, neglect and exclusion. But Before is not a film about cold statistics and gloomy realities, it’s a film about generational trailblazers who have surmounted prejudice and defied expectation to form communities of strength, renewal and camaraderie—whether these communities be affable senior living facilities, lively activist enclaves or wacky queer bars brimming with glittered trinkets and colorful drag queens.

Dennis is a gentle-hearted widower in his 70s who begins exploring his sexual identity and fondness for dressing in women’s clothing under the name “Dee.” Ty is an impassioned LGBT activist who hears nothing but wedding bells once gay marriage passes in New York. Robert “The Mouth” is a feisty bar owner who presses on when his neighborhood institution comes under threat. Born before the Civil Rights era, these men have witnessed unbelievable change in their lifetimes, from the Stonewall Riots and gay liberation, to the HIV/AIDS pandemic and Queer Nation, to gay marriage and Lady Gaga, and have lived to become part of an unprecedented “out” elder generation. Before focuses on the lives of these three gay seniors, but reminds us that while LGBT elders face a specific set of issues, aging and its challenges are universal. An affirmation of life and human resilience told with a refreshing humor and candor, Before confirms that you are never too old to reshape society.

The film is currently screening at film festivals. [Read more…]

New Anchorman: The Legend Continues Trailer – Plus a new poster for the much-anticipated movie

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It was in development for years, but now Anchorman 2 is really coming, with the likes of Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Christina Applegate are all reprising their Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy roles, with Adam McKay directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ferrell.

The film takes place in the late 1970s during the advent of the 24-hour news cycle. Needless to say, the Action 4 News team has trouble adapting to this news format. It also sees Ron heading off on a trip to New York.

Cameos from the likes of Harrison Ford, James Marsden, Kristen Wiig, Jim Carrey, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Vince Vaughn and loads more are also promised to show up. The film is due out at Christmas. [Read more…]

The Lego Movie Trailer – Looking more fun than you might think

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The Lego Movie may not arrive in cinemas until next year, but you can understand why they want to release a trailer nice and early, as a lot of people will be wondering whether a film filled with little yellow Lego people can work. Well, on the evidence of this, it could be a lot of fun, and it all shows off the various franchises that will show up, including DC superheroes, NBA basketball teams and Ninja Turtles.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

‘Will Ferrell, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman and Alison Brie join Chris Pratt to form the cast of the first-ever full length theatrical LEGO movie, the greatest movie ever assembled, which is set to hit cinemas in 14th February 2014.’ [Read more…]

Dumb & Dumber To With Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels Gets Revived By Universal

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dumb-and-dumber-pic1After years in development, earlier this year it finally seemed Dumb and Dumber To was finally going to go ahead, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels both agreeing to star. Then last week disaster struck when New Line Cinema dropped the comedy sequel.

However that’s turned out to just be a bump at the end of a very long road, as now Universal Pictures and Red Granite Pictures have come onboard to back the film.

Directors Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly revealed the news themselves, tweeting, ‘IT”S OFFICIAL: Dumb and Dumber To is going into production with @RedGranitePics and @UniversalPics!!! #DumbTo’

Carrey and Daniels will be back as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne, with the stars, filmmakers, and studios working out scheduling to get production started as quickly as possible. There is a bit of extra urgency as Jeff Daniels wants to shoot before he has to go back to work on The Newsroom, while Jim Carrey wants to get it in the can ahead of filming the bank heist comedy Loomis Fargo with Owen Wilson.

Bobby Farrelly and Peter Farrelly are directing from a script by Sean Anders and John Morris, which the directors rewrote themselves. The story revolves around Lloyd and Harry trying to find one of their illegitimate children, so they can donate one of their kidneys to save the child’s life. It’ll shoot on a $35 million budget.

Dolphin Tale 2 Is Announced, With Ashley Judd & Morgan Freeman Returning

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dolphin-tale-slideWhile Dolphin Tale wasn’t a massive hit, it’s done well enough that Alcon Entertainment has decided it’s worth making a sequel to the 2011 family film. They’re in the final stages of developing Dolphin Tale 2, and now it’s been revealed that Warner Bros has set a September 19th, 2014 US release date.

The original cast is in talks to return for the sequel, including Harry Connick Jr., Ashley Judd, Morgan Freeman, Kris Kristofferson and others. Charles Martin Smith, who directed Dolphin Tale, is set to helm the sequel from his own script.

Dolphin Tale 2 will tell another true story inspired by the life of Winter, a dolphin found trapped in a net, who had to have her tale amputated. However she found a new lease of life when she got a prosthetic replacement. The new film will also involve a baby dolphin named Hope who was rescued by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in 2010.

Winter, who still resides at the Aquarium, played herself in the original film and returns in Dolphin Tale 2 and Hope will play herself in the sequel.

Red Director Dean Parisot Takes On The Secret Life of Houdini

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dean-parisotSummit has been working on The Secret Life Of Houdini since 2009, and in that time the likes of Jeff Nathanson, Gary Ross and Joe Wright have been attached to direct. However they’ve both moved on and the latest taking up the directing reins, according to Deadline, is Dead Parisot (Red).

The project is based on a book written by William Kalush and Larry Sloman, with a script by Noah Oppenheim, which claims that world-famous magician Harry Houdini also led a double life as a British spy. The book also goes deep into his world of magic and mystery, as well as how his legacy later threatened by a group of fanatical Spiritualists led by esteemed British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Although it’s not got another director, there’s still no news on when it might shoot.

Russell Crowe Plans Directorial Debut With The Water Diviner

June 19, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Russell-CroweRussell Crowe has had plenty of success as an actor, but he’s never directed a movie, until now that is, as Deadline reports that he’s set to make his helming debut with The Water Diviner.

The movie is set in 1919 and follows an Australian father who travels to Turkey to locate his two sons. The brothers went missing during the battle of Gallipoli, which was an unsuccessful attempt by the Allied Powers to control the sea route from Europe to Russia during World War I.

Russell Crowe is currently riding high at the box office due to his appearance in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He’s apparently been looking for an Aussie-themed project to direct for a while, including flirting with The Long Green Shore and Bra Boys.

Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios wrote the screenplay for The Water Diviner. Shooting is scheduled to begin later this year in Australia and Turkey.
