Kevin Costner & McG Sign On For Three Days To Kill

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While Kevin Costner’s career has seemed on the skid for the past few year, he certainly seems to be making a comeback, with roles in Man Of Steel, the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot and a possible spin-off from that. Now he has closed a deal to take the lead role in a Luc Besson written/producer thriller which is currently untitled, but which until recently was known as Three Days To Kill.

The movie also now has a director in the form of McG (This Means War). The movie is about a Secret Service Agent Ethan Runner who discovers he’s dying and decides to retire in order to reconnect with his estranged family. But when the Secret Service offers him access to an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment, he soon finds himself trying to juggle his family, his mission, and the drug’s hallucinatory side-effects.

It isn’t currently known when the film might shoot. (Source: ThePlaylist)

Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar To Direct Yogi Bear 2

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While many hoped that 2010’s Yogi Bear was an aberration that would quickly be forgotten, it did take over $200 million at the worldwide box office, which is enough for Warner Bros to put a sequel into motion. Now Deadline reports that Jay Chandrasekhar (The Babymakers) has come aboard to rewrite the script and direct Yogi Bear 2.

There’s no news on the plot for this follow-up, or indeed if any of the same cast will return. 2010’s Yogi Bear, saw Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake voicing Yogi and Boo-Boo, with Anna Faris, Tom Cavanagh, and T.J. Miller taking the taking live-action roles.

Jay Chandrasekhar is best known for his work as a member of the Broken Lizard troupe, directing, writing, and starring in comedies such as Super Troopers and Beerfest. His most recent movie is The Babymakers, which hits DVD in the UK on Monday.

Daniel Radcliffe Gets Horny In First Image From Horns

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Since the end of Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has been busy showing us he’s not really a teenage wizard, and while he still looked a tad schoolboy-like in Woman In Black, he’s certainly looking a lot more grown up in the first picture from Horns (and of course, he’s got horns growing out of his head).

Based on the best-selling novel by Joe Hill and directed by Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha 3D) from a screenplay by Keith Bunin (In Treatment), Horns is a supernatural thriller that follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend, Merrin (Juno Temple).

Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon realises their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and unspeakable impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.

It certainly sounds like an interesting role for radcliffe, and we have to say that he looks kind of cool with horns on his head. The actor comments, “It’s a very, very different type of part than anything I’ve done before. To play somebody who, in the midst of a time in his life of great turmoil anyway, undergoes this horrific transformation into a devil character – it was very, very exciting.” (Image via EW)

Emilia Clarke & Jessica Brown Findlay Eyed For Captain America 2

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Once production wraps on Thor 2 and Iron Man 3, they’re quickly moving on to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Before then they need to get the new cast members sorted. Marvel and directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo are currently eyeing their leading lady, with Deadline reporting numerous actresses are testing for the role.

On the shortlist is Emilia Clarke (who’s worked with the Russos on Game of Thrones), Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), Imogen Poots (Fright Night) and Alison Brie (Community). The character they would be playing has not been announced, but it will be a modern day love interest for Steve Rogers. Some suggest the female lead will be somehow related to Peggy Carter, and it’s interesting that as with Hayley Atwell in the first film, they’re mainly looking at English actresses for the part.

It is also being reported that Scarlett Johansson will be making a cameo as Black Widow in the movie, ensuring the continuation of the broad Marvel Universe. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be released April 4th, 2014.

Anthony Mackie & Topher Grace Join A Many Splintered Thing

October 3, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

At the beginning of last month, Chris Evans signed up for Justin Reardon’s comedy A Many Splintered Thing, and now he’s got some company as Variety reports that Topher Grave, Anthony Mackie, Aubrey Plaza, Giovanni Ribisi, and Philip Baker Hall are all in talks to join.

Chris Evans is set to star as a man who meets an engaged woman (Michelle Monaghan), just as he is becoming disillusioned with the prospect of love. He starts a platonic relationship with the woman, in hopes of trying to win her over, despite her relationship status. No details have been given for the new cast members, except for Topher Grace, who will be Evans’ best friend.

Commercials director Justin Reardon will direct from a screenplay by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair, which landed on the 2011 Black List. Shooting is scheduled to begin later this month.

Arnie Says His Mom Thought He Might Be Gay And Wanted To Cure Him

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Arnold Schwarzenegger hawking his new memoir, Total Recall, he’s busy conducting endless interviews about his life. Just yesterday, he was talking about how he married two gay couple when he was Governor Of California (although he refused to say he was for gay marriage itself).

Now Contact Music reports he’s been chatting to the US talk show 60 Minutes about the fact that when he was a teen his mother thought he might be gay, seemingly because his bedroom walls were covered in half naked male bodybuilders (so not altogether an unreasonable thought on her part then).

“I don’t know if mum thought I was gay,” Arnie says, “Or if she just thought there was something off. And ‘let’s catch it early’” His father apparently thought the best way to deal with Schwarzenegger’s suspected homosexuality was with violence. He “ran after me with a belt and beat me”, says Arnie.

However his mother took him to a doctor, in an attempt to “cure” him. ”She asked the doctor, ‘Can you help me? I don’t know if there’s something wrong with my son because his wall is full of naked men. All of Arnold’s friends have pictures of girls above their bed. And Arnold has no girls’.”

Arnie of course was a bodybuilder himself and won the Mr. Universe title before becoming and actor.

Megan Mullally & Paul Iacono On For Darren Stein’s Gay Teen Movie G.B.F.

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Shooting has begun on the fun sounding gay-themed teen film G.B.F. – Gay Best Friend – with Jawbreaker director Darren Stein helming the movie, according to Variety. The plot is about the social warfare that erupts when two gay high school boys realise they must become GBFs to the most popular girls in school to improve their social status.

The great cast includes Megan Mullally, Natasha Lyonne, Rebecca Gayheart, Jonathan Silverman and Horatio Sanz, with younger characters played by Paul Iacono (who recently came out himself), Michael J. Willet (United States of Tara), Andrea Bowen (Desperate Housewives), Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars), Xosha Roquemore (Precious) and singer-actress Joanna ‘JoJo’ Levesque.

G.B.F. is now shooting in Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley and Pasadena/Glendale.

Hopefully projects like this point the way for the future, where more LGBT-themed movies can attract decent casts and offer the sort of fun plots that will draw in a large audience.

Miles Teller Is Officially Dating Alongside Zac Efron

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago Zac Efron signed up for Tom Gormican’s romantic comedy, Are We Officially Dating?, and now he’s got some company as Variety reports that Footloose & Project X’s Miles Teller has joined him in the movie.

The film is about three Manhattan friends who make a pact to remain single. The plot thickens when each friend falls in love shortly after the vow is made (wouldn’t you just know it!). Efron and Teller will be two of those friends, although at the moment there’s no word on the third. Teller’s characters is apparently determined to stay sexually active, despite his vow to be single.

When Efron signed up, the plan was to start shooing this November in New York City, and we assume that hasn’t changed.

Star-Studded Pics From Ensemble Comedy Movie 43 Hit

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ensemble films have told dramatic stories, such as The Player and Short Cuts, or been rom-commy like Valentine’s Day, but now comes Movie 43, which tell a series of interlinked tale, but goes for all-out comedy. Indeed, the long-in-development film, which has been guided to the screen by Peter Farrelly, doesn’t even have a single director, as it features numerous helmers telling their own bits of the story – so it’s somewhere between an ensemble movie and an anthology.

It also has an amazing cast, which these first seven images, which come via EW, help demonstrate. In the movie will be (deep breath), Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Halle Berry, Leslie Bibb, Kate Bosworth, Gerard Butler, Bobby Cannavale, Kieran Culkin, Josh Duhamel, Anna Faris, Richard Gere, John Hodgman, Terrence Howard, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Justin Long, Stephen Merchant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloë Grace Moretz, Chris Pratt, Liev Schreiber, Seann William Scott, Emma Stone, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts, and Kate Winslet. It’s described as ‘not for the weak-stomached, faint of heart, or easily offended. In Movie 43, comedy is served steaming hot by director Peter Farrelly of The Farrelly Brothers (Something About Mary, Dumb & Dumber) in one of the most original comedies ever made’

Take a look at the pics below, along with some comments from Peter Farrelly. The movie is currently set for UK release on February 1st, 2013.

”This guy, Anna Faris’ real-life husband Chris Pratt, meets the perfect woman, the modern day Donna Reed, played by Anna. She’s sweet, she’s kind, and she just has this thing: she wants him to poop on her,” says Farrelly. ”That frosting is frosting, and it’s also her thing. Eh eh?”

”Halle Berry and Stephen Merchant play the ultimate game of Truth or Dare. They meet through an online dating service [and later] go to a restaurant,” says Farrelly. ”After some small talk, Halle Berry is sick of it, and says, ‘Let’s play Truth or Dare.’ They start one-upping each other in a very very funny way. The turkey baster is verrrrrrry interesting.”

”It’s the first all-black basketball team to host a championship, in the ’50s,” says Farrelly. ”They’re playing an all-white team, and they’re terrified. Terrence Howard has to convince these 6’8” black guys that they’re better than these 5’9” white guys.”

”Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville are best friends who had a falling out because Johnny was with [Seann’s] girl one night,” says Farrelly. ”To make it up, Johnny delivers Seann a pissed-off, angry, violent leprechaun, played by Gerard Butler. Johnny is trying to tickle him with a feather to get him to sneeze fairy dust to prove to Seann it’s a leprechaun.”

”Naomi Watts and [real-life partner] Liev Schreiber are homeschooling their son, played by Jeremy Allen White, who’s in Shameless, and they think schooling is about the entire experience, including being hazed, bullied, demeaned,” says Farrelly. ”Besides making him study, they’re torturing him. This is one of my favorites, and so funny.”

”Emma Stone and Kieran Culkin are a couple that’s broken up, and meet again in a supermarket,” says Farrelly. ”They cut through all the bulls— in a relationship, but unbeknownst to her, they’re on a loudspeaker. They start getting very intimate. It’s really funny.”

”In this, Kate Winslet’s on a date with Hugh Jackman, and she finds out he has quite a funny and strange birth defect — during dinner,” says Peter Farrelly, one of the sprawling ensemble comedy’s 12 co-directors. ”It’s a blind date. It’s her trying to navigate the waters.”

Seven New Pics Of Depp & Hammer In Lone Ranger Arrive

October 2, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With its vast budget, Disney has a lot riding on The Lone Ranger and so they’ve started the marketing effort early, releasing seven new images, along with comments from director Gore Verbinski, even though the film won’t arrive in UK cinemas until August 2013.

If nothing else, they suggest the film, starring Armie Hammer in the title role, will look good, and Johnny Depp as Tonto will spend a lot of time wearing a dead bird on his head. Take a look at the new images below, along with Verbinski’s comments, which come via USA Today.

“This is their bad-ass moment. Johnny and I have been able to create a really good dynamic between these two guys.”

“It’s a dysfunctional buddy movie. It’s two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different worldviews. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements.”

“We made a big Western the old-fashioned way. You have to go there. This is right before the Lone Ranger and Tonto head out on their journey together. This is the first time they make a decision to work as a team.”

“[Depp is] is an odd-shaman, an outcast from his own tribe, who has created his own mystical world. [His crow headpiece is] his companion. It’s a stuffed bird that he feeds birdfeed.”

“All the traditional westerns are about choice and the individual. When progress comes it’s much more difficult to define the individual in that world. The train represents all of that. What do we give up in the name of progress?”

“This is during an attack sequence. The film has everything you can want, from Cavalry to Comanche. My respect for Westerns have gone way, way up. It’s hard and treacherous work. It’s hard to find people these days who can ride horses like that and jump onto trains.”

“It was a modern train clad in a steam engine just to get through all the work we had to do The train sequences are really entertaining.”
