Rise Of The Guardians Character Posters Debut
One of the more intriguing CG projects coming up is Dreamworks Animation’s Rise Of The Guardians, which essentially turns the likes of the Tooth Fairy and Jack Forst into superheroes! When an evil spirit known as Pitch lays down the gauntlet to take over the world, the immortal Guardians – Jack Frost (Chris Pine), North (Alec Baldwin), Tooth (Isla Fisher), E. Aster Bunnymund (Hugh Jackman) and The Sandman – must join forces for the first time to protect the hopes, beliefs and imagination of children all over the world. The film certainly gives the classic characters a bit of a makeover, so take a look at the character posters above and below.
Magic Mike NSFW Red Band Promo – Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper flick gets saucy
While Hollywood loves taking the clothes off women, it tends to be a lot more coy about men, so you may have been wondering just how saucy Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper flick, Magic Mike, would be. We’ve got a good hint now thanks to this extended TV spot, which promises much g-strings, erotic dances, bum flashes and even silhouetted massive dongs! It’s definitely NSFW, but if you fancy a bit of cheeky naughtiness aimed at straight women and gay men, take a look. Partly based on Tatum’s experiences as a young male stripper, the film sees him mentoring a newbie (Pettyfer) and apparently having romantic problems. The film hits UK cinemas July 13th.
Will Gluck Developing Skyjack: The Hunt For DB Cooper
Director Will Gluck has made his name with comedies such as Easy A and Friends With Benefits, although he’s planning to go in a slightly different direction (although still with comic touches), as Deadline reports that he’s in talks with CBS Films to produce and possibly direct Skyjack: The Hunt for D.B. Cooper.
Cooper hijacked a plane and parachuted out of it over the Pacific Northwest with over $200,000 in cash on November 24, 1971. He was never brought to justice, but was labeled a folk hero. The novel the film will be based on, written by Geoffrey Gray, follows the legend from the perspectives of three different people who claim to be the real D.B. Cooper.
Keith Bunin is writing the script for the project, although there’s no news on when it might shoot.
Amy Ryan & Dane Dehaan Tie Themselves To The Devil’s Knot
The Devil’s Knot is gathering together an interesting cast, with Reese Witherspoon, Colin Firth, Mireille Enos, Alessandro Nivola, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha and Justin Castor already attached to the film. Now Variety reports that Oscar-nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) and Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan have entered talks for the movie.
Egoyan is working from a script written by The Exorcism Of Emily Rose’s Scott Derrickson and Paul Boardman, about the West Memphis 3, who were convicted of the murder of three young boys in Arkansas in the mid 90s. Even before they were convicted there were accusations of the investigation being bungled and the men being railroaded.
The youths were accused of murdering the boys in a Satanic ritual, with many suspecting they had just been caught up in a panic over Satanism that was sweeping the US (and other parts of the world) at the time, with the evidence made to fit what the prosecutors wanted it to, rather than what it did.
After years of campaigning, high-profile documentaries (particularly Paradise Lost and its sequel, which had a huge impact on the case), the three men were finally released – although it should be noted that it was part of a plea deal and they weren’t exonerated.
Ryan is set to play the wife of Firth’s character, with Colin as a private investigator who worked tirelessly to try and uncover the truth. Dehaan will be a teen who has some history with the three murdered boys. Shooting begins on June 25th.
Bill Paxton May Take On 2 Guns Opposite Wahlberg & Washington
For a while now, Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington have been attached to 2 Guns for Contraband director Baltasar Kormákur. Now they may have some company, as Variety reports that Billl Paxton is in talks for the film.
Based on the comics by Steven Grant, 2 Guns follows a DEA agent and a Naval Intelligence officer (Wahlberg and Washington) who unknowingly go undercover to investigate each other. The pair find themselves involved with a heist and are told they are stealing from the mob, but the truth is that they have actually stolen from the CIA. Paula Patton will play the project’s female lead. If Paxton signs on, he’ll play a “high ranking CIA operative,” who probably isn’t very happy about the actions of Wahlberg and Washington.
Paxton’s a bit of a late addition, as the movie started filming this week and hit cinemas next year.
Christopher Nolan Producing Wally Pfister’s Directorial Debut
Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas have come on board to executive produce Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s currently untitled directorial debut. It’s a bit of a quid pro quo, as Pfister as been a vital part of Nolan’s arsenal, as he’s worked as the director’s cinematographer ever since Memento.
There’s precious little info on the plot of the movie, although the screenplay was written by newcomer Jack Paglen for Pfister to direct. Principal photography is set to begin in the fall or early winter.
Nolan and Thomas commented, “We have been hoping to work with Wally as a director for a long time, and are thrilled to be working on such an original and exciting project alongside him and Alcon.”
While this is his first feature project, Pfister has been directing commercials for several years and gained notice for his powerful work on PSAs for The Montana Meth Project alongside the work of directors Darren Aronofsky, Tony Kaye, and Alejandro González Iñárritu. Pfister recently completed The Dark Knight Rises with Nolan and served as the cinematographer on last year’s Best Picture nominee, Moneyball. (Source: Variety)
Charlize Theron Set To Solve A Murder Mystery
Thanks to Prometheus, the slightly idling career of Charlize Theron has been kicked back into high gear, and she’s now in negotiations to star in and produce Murder Mystery for director John Madden, according to Deadline.
The first news of the project surface back in December 2010, when Kevin Macdonald was attached to direct, but he’s now been replaced by Shakespeare In Love and The Debt’s Madden. The comedy is described as an ‘affectionate deconstruction’ of an Agatha Christie-style whodunit, which centres on an American couple traveling overseas.
James Vanderbilt (Total Recall, The Amazing Spider-Man) wrote the screenplay, although there’s no news on when it might shoot.
First Look At Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2’s Renesnee
The first image of Renesmee from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 has arrived, via EW. At the end of Breaking Dawn Part 1, Renesmee was a newborn, but as you can see from the image above, where she peeps out from behind her mother, she’s growing ridiculously fast! But that’s what happens when you test the uncharted territories of having a half-vampire, half human child.
As this is Twilight, no one is allowed to smile, even for a family portrait, but then with everyone from the wolfpack to the Volturi not being too chuffed about Renesmee’s existence, they probably don’t have much to be cheerful about. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 hits cinema on November 16th.
Django Unchained UK Trailer – Another look at Tarantino’s western
The first trailer for Django Unchained arrived last week and now a new UK version has shown up online, giving us another great look at Quentin Tarantino’s movie. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Academy Award-winner Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.
‘Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.
‘Django and Schultz’s search ultimately leads them to Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), the proprietor of “Candyland,” an infamous plantation where slaves are groomed by trainer Ace Woody (Kurt Russell) to battle each other for sport. Exploring the compound under false pretenses, Django and Schultz arouse the suspicion of Stephen (amuel L. Jackson), Candie’s trusted house slave. Their moves are marked, and a treacherous organization closes in on them. If Django and Schultz are to escape with Broomhilda, they must choose between independence and solidarity, between sacrifice and survival.’
