Christian Bale Up For Enzo Ferrari Biopic

August 21, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Christian-BaleChristian Bale may be living out his fast car dreams soon as Deadline reports that he’s set to reteam with his Public Enemies director, Michael Mann, for a film based on Brock Yates‘ 1991 book, Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races.

Mann has apparently been working on the movie for 15 years, which ‘takes place in 1957, a year where passion, failure, success and death and life all collided’. That year is particularly significant for the Italian car-maker, as it was when Ferrari driver, Alfonso de Portago, was killed during the Mille Miglia race. The driver and nine spectators died when a tire blew out and his car careened into the roadside crowd.

It was a time when the rise of Enzo’s company was tempered because he was charged with manslaughter over the event.

It’s not clear when it will shoot, but it appear Mann is now on the lookout for the female lead.

Chris Evans Is Gifted For Director Marc Webb

August 17, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chris-EvansChris Evans may be very busy on the Captain America: Civil War set at the moment, but he’s also figuring out what he’s going to do in between Marvel movies, as Deadline reports that he’s attached to star in Gifted, for director Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-man).

Gifted, ‘focuses onAll Pages a man who sues for custody of his gifted niece’, and will start filming this autumn. The man is Frank, a deliberate underachiever who is looking after his niece even though he doesn’t officially have custody. However, when the girl’s grandmother threatens to destroy the normal life he wants for the child, he sets out to become her official guardian.

Webb intends to follow that with The Only Living Boy In New York, which Miles Teller is set to star in. The Deadline reports mentions a couple of other actors are also in talks, with Rosamund Pike and Jeff Bridges circling the project.

In that film, ‘Teller is attached to play a recent college grad who learns that his overbearing father is having an affair. The son tries to stop it, only to become involved with the woman as well. With advice from a questionable quirky neighbor, the young man learns about love.’

It’s All So Quiet (DVD Review)

August 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Jeroen Willems, Henri Garcin, Wim Opbrouck
Director: Nanouk Leopold
Running Time: 91 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: August 10th 2015 (UK)

When they named this film, ‘It’s All So Quiet’, they weren’t joking. This is not a film that will be remembered for its verbosity and wall-to-wall action, but that’s exactly as it should be, as Nanouk Leopold’s movie is a look at the stillness inside people, of isolation and the things that are locked away.

Helmer is a Dutch farmer who lives a largely solitary existence, interrupted only by caring for his father. His dad is sick, largely immobile, taciturn and spends his time lying in bed waiting to die. Helmer also has occasional visits, such as from milk collector Johan, who seems slightly fascinated by Helmer.

Then there’s young farmhand Henk, who is almost as quiet as Helmer, but who awakens feelings the farmer has repressed and which he may still not be ready to deal with. [Read more…]

First Pic From Star Wars: Rogue One Emerges, While Colin Trevorrow Will Direct Episode IX

August 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

star-wars-rogue-one-pic1Having spent billions to buy Lucasfilm, it’s not surprising Disney wants to make their money back. They’re certainly investing vast amounts of money to make the most of their investment, and they’re doing so before the first new Star Wars film has even arrived in cinemas.

JJ Abrams’ The Force Awakens, which is Episode VII of the central story, will arrive later this year, and another film based in the Star Wars universe, Rogue One, is already in production. As well as that, standalone movies about the likes of a young Han Solo are already being developed, and screenwriters are hard at work on Episodes VIII & IX.

Rian Johnson has previously been announced to direct Episode VIII, and now Disney has confirmed rumours that Jurassic World helmer Colin Trevorrow will take on Episode IX. While production won’t begin for a few years, Trevorrow is heading to Lucasfilm this year to begin working with artists and his fellow Star Wars directors. “Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed,” says Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. “The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled filmmaker. We are thrilled to have such an incredible talent as Colin join our family and step into the Star Wars universe.”

It should mean he still has time to helm the Jurassic World sequel which is due out in 2017.

Alongside the announcement of Trevorrow, Disney have released the first official pic from Rogue One, as well as the logo. They also confirmed the cast, which will include Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.

Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) is directing that more, which is set shortly before the events of A New Hope, and follows a rogue band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy (AKA the plans that end up stowed away in R2D2 at the beginning of A New Hope). Take a look at the first pic from Rogue One above.

Orlando Bloom Confirmed For Pirates Of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

August 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

orlando-bloom-piratesOrlando Bloom may not have appeared in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, but at Disney’s D23 Expo he made an appearance to confirm he’ll be back for the fifth adventure, Dead Men Tell No Tales.

He appeared wearing full Jack Sparrow costume, suggesting that perhaps this time around he’ll be a pirate in his own right, taking Johnny Depp’s character as his inspiration.

The first proper synopsis has also been released, which reads: ‘Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea…including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

‘The film is directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Rønning and stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kevin R. McNally, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, Stephen Graham, David Wenham and Geoffrey Rush. Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer and Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Joe Caracciolo, Jr. and Brigham Taylor serve as executive producers. alice-through-poster2Even Disney was surprised when its Tim Burton directed, live-action version of Alice In Wonderland broke a billion dollars at the worldwide box office. The studio quickly started thinking about a sequel, but it’s only now that it’s moving towards release – with Muppet Movie helmer James Bobin stepping in for Burton.

Indeed, most of the original cast is returning, including Anne Hathaway, Helen Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen and Stephen Fry. The biggest edition is Sacha Baron Cohen as the evil Lord Of Time, who has a plan to turn Wonderland into a barren waste, which only Alice can stop.

Mowgli Meets Bagheera In The First Poster For Disney’s Live-Action Jungle Book

August 16, 2015 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jungle-book-2016-poster1Disney has plans to make live-action versions of all sorts of tales they’ve previously made classic animated movies about, but one that’s intrigued many is The Jungle Book, which is due to arrive in cinemas Aprils 2016.

At Disney’s D23 they’ve released the first poster for the movie, which you can take a look at above.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Directed by Jon Favreau (“Chef,” “Iron Man,” “Elf”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johannsson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire.

‘The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world.’
