Over the weekend it was revealed that Tom Cruise had decided not to star in the film version of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. With the film having been in development for years, that might have meant another long delay, but Warner Bros is moving fast to fill the hole, with Variety reporting that Henry Cavill is now in talks to take over for Cruise, although a deal is not yet set.
The film is based on the 1960s The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which followed two agents from United Network Command for Law Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.), who try to stop the evil-doers from Technological Hierarchy for the Removal of Undesirables and the Subjugation of Humanity (T.H.R.U.S.H.).
If he signs on, Cavill will be Napoleon Solo (played by Robert Vaughn in the TV series), with Armie Hammer as Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum). Alicia Vikander is also set to star, with Guy Ritchie directing.
The hope is to get all the casting and other issues sorted as soon as possible, so that film can kick off later this summer.
