Ben Kingsley Will Get In Pharaonic Night At The Museum 3

January 24, 2014 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ben-kingsleyWith production due to start soon, Shawn Levy is busy filling out the cast of Night Of The Museum 3. Now he’s added another name, as Deadline reports that Ben Kingsley has signed up for the movie. He joins returning stars such as Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan, as well as newcomers Dan Stevens and Rebel Wilson.

Kingsley with play a formidable Egyptian pharaoh who is on display in the British Museum – and yes, that does mean the franchise is moving to Britain this time. It’s not known whether Kingsley’s character will be on the side of good or bad, although it’s believed Dan Steven’s Sir Lancelot will be the main bad guy this time around. It’s also not known if the British Museum will be the only one of London’s attractions which will come to life in the film.

Shawn Levy will once more direct, working from a screenplay by franchise creators Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. Night At The Museum is currently due out just before Christmas.

Iron Man 3 (Blu-ray)

September 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle, Robert Downey Jr.
Director: Shane Black
Running Time: 130 mins
Certificate: 12
Release Date: September 9th 2013

Iron Man 3 presented an interesting challenge to Marvel, as it’s the completion of the Iron Man trilogy – with no stand-alone adventures for Downey Jr’s metal man likely to follow – but also the follow-up to The Avengers and a prequel to his appearance in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron. As such the movie could have ended up a complete mess, unsure what it was meant to be doing. However it actually handles the challenge fairly well, sewing up themes from the earlier Iron Man movies, while having Tony Stark rocked by the events of the Battle Of New York, which have started causing him to have panic attacks. Ben Kingsley & Michael Caine Join Eliza Graves

April 12, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

michael-caineBrad Anderson’s career has certainly has its up and downs. He got major praise for The Machinist, but few saw Transsiberian, and Vanishing On 7th Street was such a disaster it was quietly slipped out with nobody noticing. However he’s had a bit of a boost with the recent The Call, and now he’s lining up Eliza Graves.

Jim Sturgess and Kate Beckinsale are already aboard to star, and now he’s added some more Brits, as Deadline reports that Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine have signed on to star.

The screenplay is based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe called The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether, and follows a Med School student trapped in a mental institution that has been overtaken by its inmates. Some of the patients are now pretending to be doctors, but it’s not clear who. Kate Beckinsale will play the title character, an inmate who has an affair with a Harvard grad. There’s no news on who Caine and Kingsley will play, although we’d bet one is a patient posing as a doctor, while the other is the real head of the institution who’s been forced to be a patient.

Joe Gangemi (Wind Chill) wrote the script, with production set to begin June 21st in Bulgaria.

Iron Man 3 Featurette – Lots of fresh footage and take a look at the new characters

April 10, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s just a couple of weeks until Iron Man 3 arrives in UK cinemas on April 25th and May 3rd in the US, so to get un excited, a new featurette has been released, featuring plenty of fresh footage and an introduction to some of the new characters, played by the likes of Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall and Guy Pearce.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle.

Iron Man 3 Composite IMAX Poster Released

March 20, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-imax-posterThere have been an awful lot of Iron Man 3 posters released, and now we’ve got another one, which is essentially a composite of the previously released character posters. It’s pretty cool, even if Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin does look like he’s randomly floating in the background.

And while we’re talking Iron Man 3, Joss Whedon has seen the film and commented that it’s made writing The Avengers 2 a bit more daunting for him. Marvel had honcho Kevin Feige told 2 Kids And A Coupon that, “We have what I think is the biggest, you know, most action packed finale we’ve had. I showed the film to Joss Whedon, who is our writer-director of Avengers, is currently working on Avengers 2, and he saw the finale of this and he goes, now what am I supposed to do now?  What am I going to do in Avengers 2?”

Whether that’s just because the ending is so huge or if it effects Tony Stark’s story in a way that will impact on the next Avengers movie isn’t known. Iron Man 3 hits UK cinemas on April 26th and the US on May 3rd.

New Iron Man 3 Trailer Arrives – A bit of a darker tone for Tony Stark

March 5, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s not long at all until Iron Man 3 hits UK cinemas on April 25th and the US on May 3rd, so it’s time to kick the hype up a gear with an ace new trailer. It suggests a more serious tone than the first two films, with Tony Stark dropping his jokey, cocksure attitude as The Mandaring emerges and threatens to rip his life apart.

Luckily though he’s going to spice things up with a whole team of iron people!

With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

‘Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968.’ [Read more…]

Iron Man 3 Mandarin Character Poster Arrives

February 22, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

iron-man-3-mandarin-character-banner
We’ve had Iron Man 3 character posters for the likes of Tony Stark, Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes and Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian, and now it’s time for the movie’s main villain to get one – Ben Kingsley’s evil Mandarin.

Disney/Marvel has also provided a character description, which says, ‘Mandarin is the sinister head of the terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings, from which all the acts of extreme terrorism plaguing the world appear to emanate. Although he is reclusive, Mandarin wields great power and makes his presence known by striking fear in the government and the populace through his brazen plans of attack.’

In the movie the Mandarin targets Tony Stark, with his world reduced to rubble by a malevolent enemy and must use his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him as he seeks to destroy the enemy and his cohorts.

It hits UK cinemas on April 26th.

Paranorman Studio Laika Announces Boxtrolls, With A Great Voice Cast Attached

February 8, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

here-be-monsters-alan-snowAfter the Oscar-nominated success of Paranorman, animation studio Laika has revealed their third movie, The Boxtrolls, based in Alan Snow‘s book Here Be Monsters! Open Season co-director Anthony Stacchi and Coraline/ParaNorman story artist Graham Annable are set to direct the movie, which already has an impressive voice cast attached.

Ben Kingsley, Toni Collette, Elle Fanning, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, Jared Harris, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright are all set to lend their dulcet tones to the 3D stop-motion/CG hybrid, which has already entered production with a October 17th, 2014 release set.

Here’s a rundown of the plot: ‘The Boxtrolls is a comedic fable that unfolds in Cheesebridge, a posh Victorian-era town obsessed with wealth, class, and the stinkiest of fine cheeses. Beneath its charming cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls, foul monsters who crawl out of the sewers at night and steal what the townspeople hold most dear: their children and their cheeses. At least, that’s the legend residents have always believed.

‘In truth, the Boxtrolls are an underground cavern-dwelling community of quirky and lovable oddballs who wear recycled cardboard boxes the way turtles wear their shells. The Boxtrolls have raised an orphaned human boy, Eggs (voiced by Mr. Hempstead-Wright), since infancy as one of their dumpster-diving and mechanical junk-collecting own. When the Boxtrolls are targeted by villainous pest exterminator Archibald Snatcher (Mr. Kingsley), who is bent on eradicating them as his ticket to Cheesebridge society, the kindhearted band of tinkerers must turn to their adopted charge and adventurous rich girl Winnie (Ms. Fanning) to bridge two worlds amidst the winds of change – and cheese.’

Deadline has posted some concept art from the film, which you can see below.

Jennifer Aniston, Mark Duplass & Ben Kingsley Going To A Convention

February 7, 2013 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

jennifer-anistonJennifer Aniston, Mark Duplass and Ben Kingsley certainly make an interesting cast for a comedy. Variety reports they’re getting together for Convention, which a press release describes as a ‘mind-bending comedy, embarking on a Charlie Kaufman-esque journey that puts them between the worlds of the cardboard box industry and inter-dimensional molecular mayhem’.

The film comes from Justin Reardon, who has just finished his directorial debut, A Many Splintered Thing, starring Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan.

Convention is about mild-mannered Paul (Duplass) and his feisty sister Abby (Aniston), who set out to change the box storage world with Paul’s invention of the 5-sided box. Breaking all the laws of physics with their new product, their fiercest competitors, including maniacal box magnate Bobby Schroedinger (Kingsley) and Mathematical Construct, an atomic guardian of the natural order of universal mathematical balance, try to stop them securing the deal of their lives – oh, and ripping a giant apocalyptic whole in the fabric of the universe. On discovering the damage he’s causing, Paul must race against time to put the galaxy back in order and save the girl of his dreams.

It’s certainly sounds ambitious, but whether it really can channel the madness of Charlie Kaufman movies such as Being John Malkovich, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is yet to be seen. The movie is currently looking for backers at the Berlin Film Festival.
