Guy Pearce Joins Iron Man 3 As Geneticist Aldrich Killian

April 21, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

With Iron Man 3 due to start shooting next month, you’d have expected to hear more about new cast members by now, but it appears with all eyes on The Avengers, things are only starting to happen now. The film did sign up Ben Kingsley a couple weeks ago and has now added another new actor, as Variety reports Guy Pearce is in final negotiations to join the cast.

The actor will portray geneticist Aldrich Killian, who created the Extremis technology which will play an important part in the sequel. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) adopts the technology after Killian sells it to some terrorists. The story will follow the spread of a virus through nanotechnology, which Tony Stark tries to stop. Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), and Don Cheadle (James Rhodes) will reprise their roles from Iron Man 2, with Kingsley portraying the villain.

Production is scheduled to start next month in North Carolina, with Shane Black directing from a screenplay by Drew Pearce.

Prometheus Viral – Peter Weyland Tells Us The Future

February 29, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Ridley Scott has been incredibly tight-lipped about Prometheus, revealing as little about the movie a humanly possible. A couple of days ago he did say the only link to Alien was Peter Weyland, creator of the cybernetic beings that would eventually lead to Ash and Bishop, even though the trailers we’ve had have shown there are far more links to Alien than that.

Now a viral has shown up online, which features Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland, giving a very interesting talk. He gives us our first proper clues as to why the film is called Prometheus and suggests that the idea of technology making man be like a god will be at the heart of the movie. Does it mean that by the end of the film, it will be people who’ve created the aliens? We’ll have to wait and see when the film is released on June 1st, but for now watch the viral and start to speculate!

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark (DVD)

February 20, 2012 By Tim Isaac 1 Comment

Starring: Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce, Bailee Madison
Director: Troy Nixey
Running Time: 95 mins
Certificate: 15
Release Date: February 20th, 2012

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark is a bit of a passion project for producer Guillermo Del Toro. The 1973 TV movie it’s based on made a huge impression on the Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker as a child and he remembers it as one of the scariest things of his childhood. However what fuels childhood nightmares doesn’t necessarily translate to a remake for an adult audience, especially when you add in fairy tale lore that makes things seem sillier than they need to be.

While in the original it’s a grown women who has problems when she moves into a new house, in the new version it’s a little girl called Sally (Bailee Madison), who comes to live with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) in a massive old house they’re renovating. Sally feels rather unwanted and initially takes a disliking to her dad’s girlfriend, Kim, however that takes a backseat when she starts to hear whispering coming through the heating ducts and then strange little creatures escape from a boarded up basement. Fresh Lockout Trailer Surfaces

January 27, 2012 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

For ages there were plans to remake Escape From New York, and while those have fallen through, we’re getting something very similar with Lockout, which stars Guy Pearce as a wrongly convicted criminal who’s offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from an outer space prison that’s been taken over by violent inmates. From the evidence of this trailer, Pearce is definitely channelling the spirit of Snake Plissken. The Luc Besson co-written flick is due out April 13th, 2012.

First Poster For Prometheus

December 15, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

What is it with Prometheus and giant heads? The first images featured a creepy big head and now it’s in the poster too, suggesting it’s got some sort of major part to play. As the plot revolves around the search for humanity’s beginnings, finding a hugh human head on an alien spaceship would be a good hint people weren’t 100% from Earth. With the film a semi-prequel to alien, that leads to a terrifying battle to save the human race.

Ridley Scott directs with Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson starring. It hits cinemas in June.

Lockout Trailer – Watch Guy Pearce get punched in the face!

December 6, 2011 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

We may get fewer Luc Besson directed movies than we used to, but boy is the man busy as a producer and writer. He’s behind Lockout, which sees Guy Pearce as a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the US. He is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison that’s been taken over by violent inmates. So kind of like Escape From New York but set in space. It’ll be out next spring.

New Prometheus Photos Revealed

November 23, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

We’ve still got over six months to wait until Ridley Scott’s sort-of Alien prequel, Prometheus, hits screens on June 1st, but EW has jumped in early by scoring some of the first images from the movie for their print edition. Luckily though the likes of Bloody Disgusting have scanned those pics and now we can take a look for ourselves.

Everything looks a bit glossier than it did in Alien, suggesting Ridley’s going for a different style this time around, although as the shot of the carved head shows, he’s keeping with some of the production design of the actual alien vessels.

Here’s the rather low-on-info synopsis: ‘Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.’ The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Rafe Spall, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, and Patrick Wilson.’

Rumours suggest the first trailer will also arrive fairly soon.

Jason Clarke Joins Bigelow’s Bin Laden Pic

November 11, 2011 By Movie Muser Leave a Comment

It’s taken Kathryn Bigelow quite a while to get her follow-up to The Hurt Locker rolling, but now it appears her movie about the guys who hunted down Osama Bin Laden is gearing towards a shoot. Jason Clarke (The Chicago Code, Texas Killing Fields) has become the first actor to sign on for Bigelow’s currently untitled project, which is set up at Sony Pictures.

Clarke will play one of the elite soldiers assigned by the US government to hunt down terrorist Osama Bin Laden. Deadline also says that actors such as Tom Hardy, Jennifer Ehle, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Rooney Mara, and Nina Arianda are in contention for other roles, although no offers have been made yet. There’s no mention of Joel Edgerton, who was once attached to the film, but seems to have stepped away after delays pushed filming back.

Kathryn Bigelow is directing from a screenplay by Mark Boal, who also wrote the script for The Hurt Locker. Production is scheduled to start sometime early next year, with an October 12, 2012 US release date already set.
